Beneficial Elements In Hispanic culture, there are good/beneficial things that affect our health. For instance, a good eating habit that Hispanics tend to do is eating fresh fruits and vegetables. We also tend to eat grains (rice) and beans. Those foods are high in fiber and protein. Hispanics do tend to rely a lot on beans as it can replace various meats since it is a protein. But not all our cooking habits is not all that beneficial to our health as this is probably the only decent diet that we consume. As of now, many Hispanics came to the United States to live the American Dream and for their future or present-day children to be successful in life. Hispanics are also more prone to die from diabetes and chronic liver diseases than people with white ethnicity (Vital Sign, 2015). There are three main things that I feel that causes those disparities and how factors contribute to it. First, the lack of education that wasn’t complete or taught to Hispanics on how to properly have a healthy diet and lifestyle. Some of our foods that we eat are cooked with unhealthy oils and a large amount of salt. Then, most of us don’t make the effort to do physical activities with the reasons being tired from work, school, or just feeling lazy. Therefore, this is why these diseases are killing us rapidly. Second, poverty is a huge issue for Hispanics. Some are struggling to maintain their family or perhaps themselves. The reason being is that most Hispanics work in low-wage/income jobs. If they cannot make enough, they won’t be able to obtain health insurance to afford the benefits from health professionals in their area. According to the CDC, Hispanics are three times more likely to not have health insurance (Vital Sign, 2015). As Hispanics are one of the hardest workers out there, they are willing to do jobs that others will not do. But in those jobs, it can be tough for them, as they can be putting their lives on the line or working in a harsh environment that could affect their health. For example, in construction, the environment varies, as it could be dirty, wet, hot, or cold. In the summer, they could experience dehydration or sunburns. In the winter, they can catch a bad cold that could make that person stay at home and lose money to support their family.
