Though America and Belgium’s culture have their differences, they do share many similarities. America was born of A revolution of settlers from England in 1776, while Belgium was first inhabited by tribes and became a nation in 1830. When reading this article one must make sure they are not ethnocentric. It is important to read this article to further knowledge about two different countries and how different and similar they are. When thinking of the seven elements of culture, America and Belgium are similar in their religion and economy, but opposite when it comes to their government. When it comes to comparing the economy Belgium and the United States, one would find they are different and similar. America’s economy is very large (Sullivan). Though it has run into difficulty, it still remains the country in production of goods and services. America’s government is a democracy (Davidson). Meaning that one person is voted upon by the citizens of the country to be the head of the country. Different from Belgium, the U.S. only has two major political parties that vote upon the leader of the nation. However, Belgium’s government is head by a king or queen, who has different powers then a president of the U.S. Unlike America, Belgium has many political parties (Pateman 38). Each of these political parties decide who will run the two heads of the government, the senate and the monarch. Belgium’s government can profit from having many political parties, while at the same time it makes their government much more confusing.
