There is a lot to be thankful for, everyone can be thankful for something in their life. It doesn’t matter if you are going through some bad times were you can’t see the light or even if you have everything but you think you need more, everybody can be thankful for something. Around this time of year families, churches, friends get together to celebrate thanksgiving, the question I was asked was What are You Thankful for? Well I am thankful for a lot of things, I am thankful for life first of all thankful that I get to walk on this earth and enjoy everything that was made for us. I am thankful for my mother I am thankful that she is a strong independent woman that when times gets ruff she doesn’t run away from the problems she faces them and
When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year.
Gratitude is one of the positive emotions shown from research and clinical trials to enhance the general well being of human beings. Gratitude is defined by Emmons (2004) as “a sense of thankfulness and joy in response to receiving a gift, whether the gift be a tangible benefit from a specific other or a moment of peaceful bliss evoked by natural beauty. Emmons and McCullough also see gratitude as an attitude, a habit, a personality trait and a way of handling difficult situations response (Emmons & Stern, 2013).
‘Dear Doctor Tom Lawrence,’ read the letter, ‘Valley Forge needs more medics. As you are one of the top doctors in Pennsylvania, you have been recognized to help the troops. Your country needs you; history is happening.’
Thanksgiving is a holiday that began hundreds of years ago. It was a celebration of many different things. One of the most important reasons for the celebration was thankfulness that many of the Pilgrims survived the first year of their new lives in America. Today, however, Thanksgiving seems to have a very different meaning to people. Their main focus is not being thankful for the things they have, but wanting more.
A big part of Thanksgiving is a Thanksgiving feast. The feast usually consists of potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, peas, gravy, stuffing, salads, buns and lots of other great food. The main part of the feast is usually the turkey. Other families might have ham, roast beef, duck or chicken. The dessert that is most likely to follow the feast is pumpkin pie. Other people may choose different desserts and food depending on their customs and beliefs for which they choose to give thanks. Let’s not forget the biggest and most important reason for this holiday – giving THANKS! People usually give thanks for everything they have. Their jobs, health, families or just being alive are just a few of the things that people give thanks for.
Thanksgiving is one of America’s most celebrated and popular holidays. It is a day that most families get together, have a feast, and watch football. Despite these fun traditions, one of the most important things about Thanksgiving that is often overlooked is showing gratitude and thankfulness for all the things in your life. Many times, people just go about everyday life and do not realize how blessed some of their possessions are until they are gone. This is similar to Jimmy Cross in the short story, "The Things They Carried" and Mrs. Mallard in, "The Story of an Hour".
While tripping in Milwaukee Wisconsin and helping out with the needs of the church that we were stationed at, I began to be thankful for all of the little things I have in life. This would include my shower, my nice clothes, and any other things that I have been blessed with in my life. You should never take things for granted, because things can come and go quickly in life like a blink of an eye. When walking around in the downtown of Chicago surrounded by the hundreds of people and the flying by of cars and trains, another thought came to my mind. The thought was, “ Count the blessings that you have in you life everyday and be thankful for them, while still working hard to achieve the goals of why you are here today”. This thought connects to my life considering that I plan on moving to Chicago for Law School and opening up my own law firm there as well, though I should still be thankful for what I’m blessed with right now in my awesome
The first and most important thing I am thankful for, is my family. Whenever I need advice from an experienced person in life, I can always look to my grandpas or grandmas. I’m also thankful for they love that my parents give to me, even now. Whenever my parents need ideas for a party, or
Being thankful is a very holy thing to do and it gets you closer to God which makes being thankful important. Being thankful is also important because being thankful is a big thing to make you happy. If you don’t appreciate the things you have but instead only think about everything that you could have you will never be happy. Appreciating the things that you have and being thankful for them will make you happy. Also, at one point you might lose what you have and be left with nothing, and only then you will notice that you had many things that you should have appreciated but now, you don’t have it anymore. So, it's better to appreciate what you have now like your grandparents, where you live, and your parents because you might not have it later.
Three hundred long years ago, ninety Wampanoag Native Americans and fifty three pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving. Thanks to the Native Americans, the pilgrims actually survived and had a successful first harvest in the New World. Just as the pilgrims were thankful for the Native Americans, I am grateful for many aspects of my life. I am very thankful that I have a loving family, amazing teachers and coaches, and a faith which teaches many lessons. Compared to much of the world, I am extremely fortunate.
Thanksgiving is a time for, well, “giving thanks”, and that couldn’t as special without your family with you. Sitting together at a huge table, everyone gets to enjoy the meal, whether homemade or not. While not being seen as a religious gathering, Thanksgiving allows the start of a family tradition as most will come back the following year. It is great when people come together, in celebration of a common purpose. It is a reconciliation of differences as well as a time of healing. In sharing the good times as well as our struggles, we find strength and hope. It is also used to spread stories, as each generation brings an individual experience with them. Most importantly, it teaches us gratitude, as we humbly reflect upon all the gifts in our lives. By “giving-thanks” we choose to extend ourselves and give to others less fortunate. Out of the abundance of our hearts, we are able to offer our resources to help
There’s a lot of reasons in my life to be thankful for. One of the main things I’m blessed about is being an athlete. Without sports I wouldn't know what to do with my life. I’m so thankful for being blessed with no serious injuries that I’ve had to stop for. Because I play multiple sports my chances of getting hurt are more likely to happen. Of course I have minor injuries, but I’m lucky enough to not have menacing ones. Another thing to be appreciative of is the coaches I’ve had and the teammates. They have turned into family and I wouldn't want anyone else by my side. I'm also thankful for getting to state in two sports. Some people don't even get to go to state for one sport. State is a breathtaking experience and I can't wait to see what
One thing that I am thankful for is my family. Also my pet dogs Katrina and Oreo. Katrina is a German Shepherd and Oreo is a Poodle mixed with a terrier. Last but certainly not least my sisters Jocelyn and Dairely. Who I love and care for.
"Why be thankful in thanksgiving, food is better.” that is often said by people that really don’t care about the holiday and they just do it for the food. Like the name states “Thanksgiving” is the time to say what you’re thankful for and to enjoy time with your family. For many people, thanksgiving is just a holiday to eat and just eat. I am thankful for three blessings
I am grateful for my life in many ways and for many reason, I was born 5 weeks premature and one of twins. Though my twin did not survive long enough for me to know him it gave me a purpose to try new things. Whenever I am scared of a new experience such as snow-boarding I think about how lucky I am to be alive and well. This thought helps me to spread my wings and embrace the unknown. Even simple things make me feel thankful, such as running in the rain or taking a walk with my dog or just a lazy Sunday afternoon with myself makes me think how great it is to be alive and here. I have always delight in the small moments in life and to think that they could never exist for me is depressing. Furthermore, being able to share my thoughts and feeling with people I love is something that brings me great joy.
