People who want to be successful and accomplish great things need to constantly be going out and gathering new information. Additionally, by always staying busy doors will be opened to new opportunities. This happens by making connections with people or finding out something new. Making connections with people is crucial in the pathway to success. For example, while applying to different colleges a student decides to do a lot of community service and participate in many extracurricular activities. Assuming that this is an exceptional student, all the student's superiors will, in turn, give good letters of recommendation, increasing the chances of getting into the college applied for. Without being involved and busy the student would have never got those letters and greatly effect their chance of being accepted. On the other hand, a person can relax and just do what they want when they are super busy. They can party, watch Netflix all day, sleep when they want and other weekend type activities. This paper explores the factors involved in success in the teaching field regardless of the environment. The information is based on the interview of current teacher Jane Satrom and her experience with a variety of adversities as a long time educator such as attending professional learning community (PLC) and department planning period (DPP) meetings. Her responses to various questions are compared to written advice for success in the college textbook Peak Performance: Success in College and Beyond in order to verify which skills and strategies are necessary in order to succeed. Even though Webster’s dictionary defines success as “achieving wealth, respect, and fame,” the definition of success is different for everyone. Society wants us to accept that having money, having big house, and owning multiple cars is the key to happiness, and henceforth, success. The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success.
