Being lucky or unlucky can change and alter one’s life in different ways. There are more opportunities to flourish within countries that are better developed compared to a less developed one. Due to the luck of being born in a country that is more developed an individual is able to better place themselves in situations that can positively alter their lives. Impoverished individuals whom are born in a country that is less developed, such as Venezuela and the Philippines, do not get the opportunity to chase their dreams. There are not enough teachers and funding to receive a proper education. The access to food in impoverished countries is limited because of wealth indifferences within the economy. The ability to obtain a visa or citizenship in a country that is more stabilized can be a difficult task. Even when individuals obtain a visa or citizenship, it can be difficult for them to get adapted to the new country due to language barriers and customs. As a result, simply being born in another country compared to another can significantly change the way someone can live his or her life...
...ecause there is strong dependence of how a person overcomes poverty and matters in life.
Poverty has many influences on children under the age of 16. The research fined out that in recent year, an increasing number of children become poor, live under the poverty condition- childhood poverty lasted 10 years or more. So, what does the poverty exactly mean to children? According to Brook-Gunn and Duncan, The kids who live in the poverty condition have the low quality of schools; more likely to have domestic violence and become homeless; less access to friends, services, etc. (Brooks-Gunn et all, 1997) That points out the disadvantage and how the family income influence youngsters overall childhood, since under the poverty condition, they children do not have enough money to support for their necessary needs, they will more likely to have low self-confidence and hard to blend in with their peers. Poverty has impact on children’s achievement in several different ways. Payne (2003) maintained that the poverty could affect children achievement though emotional, mental, financial, and role models (Payne, 2003). Thus, the children from low-income family are more likely to have self-destructive behavior, lack of control emotional response and lack of necessary intellectual, that is really important for the students under the age of 16. Nevertheless, the children who suffer from poverty are usually have low birth weight and low cognitive ability
America has always seen as the symbolic ideal country of prosperity and equality. This is the reason why people come to America hoping to become successful, but in matter of fact we all have an equal plan field to be successful is not entirely true. For there are social boundaries that keep use limited based upon our own status. Whether we are born of a low class or of a high class the possibility of economic mobility in a sense are predetermined by two factors of social class and success together they both affecting one’s another opportunity of success. In order to achieve success, we must know that it is made up of two main concepts and they are fortune and position. But when a person is limited by their class prohibiting them to achieve success, the point of trying is meaningless. However, there is a way to break the construct that keep groups stuck in the lower-class and is through education. Education gives more opportunities for success to the individuals and since education is very important, culture and the government should focus more directly upon this to reach economic stability. Class standing directly affects economic success in America by limiting a person’s chance of success however; one can overcome by focusing more upon education and culture.
In “Luck Swallows Everything” and “Sanity and the Metaphysics of Responsibility” Galen Strawson and Susan Wolf’s explain the concept of responsibility in both a compatibilist and determinist view. Strawson argued that change was not possible at all when it comes to responsibility due to an individual’s mental nature, while Wolf argues that change is possible for an individual when it comes to responsibility. This essay will be focusing on the criticism of Wolf’s work.
Growing up in a developing country has really open up my mind about setting up for a better future. My home in El Salvador wasn't the most lavishness, but it's also not the worst. I grew up in a house with two levels; three bedrooms on the top floor, one on the bottom, a garage and laundry room at the lower level, and a small sale shop at the front of the house. Growing up in this home has been a meaningful place for me. Its where I found my sense of place.
...r lives were like. They found that 86% of the resilient children seemed to doing well as adults and compared with non-vulnerable children had a higher rate of reporting to be happy. However, they did record high amount of health problems such as dizziness, back problems for men and pregnancy, childbirth for women. In addition, other children from the vulnerable group reported significantly better results compared to their teenage selves e.g. going back to school, getting a job etc. the study proves to show that children can grow up to be competent members of the society even if born into impoverished environment and under stressful situations as long as there is a balance between the environment, stress and support. she suggest early intervention programs and nurturing environments for children in vulnerable conditions to improve the child’s development in future.
Many countries around the world experience great poverty, maybe because the country has little amounts of natural resources or it has never gotten out of a slump that dragged down the economy. The people of the country are affected greatly by this, almost directly, if there are no resources available, people can’t work to refine the resources, make or use them. So instead of using the resources available, the country buys the materials needed. This puts the country in debt, along with the people. In order to get out of debt, taxes are raised and people slowly lose their jobs and their money. The affect of that is turmoil, some people blame their misfortune on a certain race or culture, some on a religion. In the case of Germany in 1938...
The case of moral luck was introduced by Williams Bernard and developed by Thomas Nagel in their articles respectively. Both raised the question whether luck can influence the judgment of morality. In this essay, the definition of moral luck and four kinds of moral luck by Williams and Nagel will be discussed through several case examples, and then followed with some arguments from Judith Andre, Donna Dickenson and David Enoch and Andrei Marmor who disagree with the concept of moral luck.
Many of us view poverty as mainly a third world issue, because it tends to have little effect on the majority of individuals on a recurring basis. Yet, it is a difficult situation prevalent in all types of civilization, despite the overall advances in technology, medicine and education that one country may have over the other. Poverty does not necessarily have to affect a specific individual, but as a country, it affects all levels of production; even when the production of a single country begins to falter, it could potentially have major effects on others, creating a continuous cycle.“Poverty is color blind”, it does not discriminate, and is a societal problem that needs to be dealt with today (Fullerton, par. 3). If not helped or solved,
For example people living in Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi, who have poor housing conditions with poor schools and lack of employment opportunities, may be denied to other opportunities which other sections of society posses. Banks might refuse loan opportunities due to lack of collaterals, insurance companies might reject their applications, or an opportunity of employment might be taken away from a deserving person due to personal and past records. It can also be possible that people themselves might exclude themselves from society’s mainstream. Individuals might drop out of education or turn down a job opportunity or due to lack of confidence, self-esteem and self-value. This might happen due to interaction between human agency and responsibility or social forces might shape people’s views and situations. (Giddens,
The constraints of poverty can cause a cycle of poor mental and physical heath (Dittmann, 2003). Poverty causes many problems for the people facing it up front everyday. Not only do they go without many necessities, they also face a tremendous amount of stress all the time. The amount of stress combined with the lack of necessities produces extreme health problems. Poor people have to deal with an unhealthy living environment that creates serious mental and physical health problems.
A well-educated parent can have a better understanding of raising children and molding them for their adult life. For instance, an educated parent will probably make higher wages, therefore are able to invest more money in their child’s welfare. (Kaushal, 2014). Parents that raise their children in an impoverished environment most likely won’t have the money, which could decrease their chances of procuring the resources needed for their child’s education. Kaushal, (2014) stated, “Children learn from the attitudes and behaviors of their parents, which are often informed by knowledge, acquired through education” (Introduction, para. 6). For that reason, learning patterns of the poor social class could be passed down from one generation to the next which may make it more difficult for kids to gain a proper knowledge. Since culture is passed down from generation to generation, a parent’s actions may always affect the decisions their children make in life. This could make it extremely challenging for children to achieve a better lifestyle for their future families as
Living in a developing society that is an opportunity could help people improve their skills such as in communicate and education. Moreover, when children grow up in good environment, they could have more condition to get good health and career. No doubt, from past to now, although people could live in any circumstances even poor or rich, they must have love from relatives and friends. However, love and belief are not only help people have happiness, but it also can make we disappointed. Certainly, I would not be exception, so a conflict was happened between my uncle’s family and I after one year I lived in the US. Because they are complained lot of my conduction individual such as rent payment, my jobs, and the top of our argument is they wanted me to leave their house, this problem could lead I thought about I should or should not live
In conclusion, sometimes actions take place that changes a person’s outlook on life and as you can see poverty is one that can have a huge effect on not only one person, but also the people around him/ her.
Education plays an importance role in every individual’s life. Most at times, people in their native land are faced with challenges with education because of the large number of people who want to go school. There is also fewer school available in these native countries making it hard for people to have access. When this happen, they either have to pay a higher amount of money to go to a private school or wait in line for their turn. Addition to this, only brilliant students get to go school due the high demand nature of the school and this forces most people to emigrate to a country where they will have easy access to school or they do not have to wait to go to school. Not only does affordability and accessibility of school contribute to people emigrating to other countries but good job and high payed jobs opportunities are a factor. Countries turn to value outside certificate then theirs. This encourages people to travel for a certificate so they can get good jobs and be payed well. In summary, people emigrate to other countries for economical, familial, and educational reasons. People in their native land are under-pay and this compel them to migrate to another country. Families who been separated for one reason or the other want to reunite so they can help each other. Low accessibility to school forces people to migrate to another country where they can have easy access to the school. Authorities
