Goalies are not normal people because I believe they have brain damage which makes them weird because they been hit in the head couple to many times. Goalies are like the quarterback of hockey except they do so much more. To be a decent goalie it takes intense training of all muscle groups. Without a decent goalie you will not win many games. To be a successful goalie is to have a short memory and a strong mind to stay focus. Goaltending is one of the most challenging position in sports. Being a Goalie takes intense training and using a bunch of skills like hand eye, flexibility, core, strength, endurance, and the list goes on . You just can’t strap on a pair of pads and be good at goalie, it takes months to years of hard work of training. You must master all the different skills there is of goaltending …show more content…
A lot of really good potential goaltenders struggle with this, is to focus on the play at hand and not let your mind drift away. If you don’t focus when playing than you start letting up bad goals which some goalies have problems shaking them off which leads to more terrible goals that can lead to an onslaught or the result of being pulled. Every goalie has a bad game or bad month this is called a slump it is your mind playing games on you which leads to a poor performance it is the hardest mental thing a goalie can get out of but great tenders find a way to get out of a slump. Being a goalie myself I would know, you just need to stay positive and shake bad goals off and keep a clear calm mind. Being calm is another mountain of challenges for goalies because if you let the opposing team anger you and get under your skin you start playing dirty also your game gets off. Plus, the refs could get you upset off a bad call or call a goal that isn’t goal and that could anger you then knock you off your
They also provide a rather rigid out-of-bounds border that hockey players strategically use to their skating advantage. Probably the second most popular thing that excites fans after a thrilling goal is a hard check against the dashing boards.
To become successful you need to earn and work for it. According to Malcolm Gladwell the book outliers “Canadian hockey is a meritocracy… You can’t buy your way into Major Junior A hockey. It doesn’t matter who your father or mother is, or who your grandfather was, or what business your family is in. Nor does it matter if your live in the most remote corner in Canada. If you have ability, the vast network of hockey scouts and talent spotters will find you, and if you are willing to work to develop that ability, the system will reward you. Success in hockey is based on individual merit—and both of those words are important. Players are judged on their own performance… and on the basis of their ability…” He emphasizes that to get to success you need to work for things. If amateurs accumulate to not work for things then they will never be successful

Ice hockey, a sport that has been in existence for over two hundred years, has become a fan favorite across the globe. From Canada to Sweden, you will be able to find some of the best ice hockey players in the world; both male and female. This pastime has instilled a unique tradition throughout the years of its practice by a combination of both physical skill and mental strength. Although it did not provide aid to globalization, it has created a worldwide culture that many people are proud to be a part of. Since its inception until now, there has been a great deal of gender stereotyping concerning the sport. Regardless, ice hockey will continue to be a lucrative market, as well as a cherished hobby for many years to come.
There are many rules in this sport, and players have to practice a lot in order to play the game perfectly. For example, players cannot just shoot the puck from behind the red centerline across the opponent’s goal line at the opposite end of the rink. They have to use their skills and
Well, it's pretty hard for a number of reasons. The shifts that you take last about 45 secs to a minute. These shifts are a sprint and sometimes you will have to double shift or even triple shift. This is all done with little rest time. Now to be a good goalie you have to be flexible enough to slide across the crease and not be scared to blocked shots that come at you at 70 mph. Goalies also have worry about screens, tips, and rebounds. To me, the goalie is the hardest position because the equipment weighs about 40-50 pounds and if the other team shoots a puck on the net then the goalie has to keep it out. So much pressure and stress on the goalie because you only have about .125 second of reaction time to try to save the puck. A hockey player once said, “ You have to the strength of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, accuracy of a sniper while doing this on ⅛ inch thick blades on cold slippery ice, and 5 other people trying to kill you. Is hockey hard? I don’t you tell me.”-Brendan
The future of hockey protective equipment is closer than originally thought. New helmets and equipment designs aid in the protection of all skill level...
We began the customary after game handshake, with the goalie at the front, and coaches bringing up the rear. As we worked our way down the line, the other team’s eyes widened when they realized I had been a girl. I walked off the field to meet up with my family, who informed me I had an exceptional performance. My mom, who always tracked my progress, said I had saved sixty four percent of the shots they had took. I was extremely proud of myself, not only for the way I had played, but because I was able to show people that despite my gender, I am just as good of a goalie as any boy.
“The Blackhawks have the puck here in OT against the Blues, and we are all tied up at two. The Blackhawks are in control of the puck. Kane takes the puck. Kane’s skating down the ice. Kane passes the puck. Tarasenko slides in front of it! Tarasenko steals the puck. He’s skating back down the ice. He gets around Kane! It’s Tarasenko versus the goalie! Tarasenko sets up! Slapshot! The Blues win the game!” This is just one of the many commentaries that can be heard on any given night of a hockey game. Hockey has been around for decades, and like many sports, it is loved by many as their favorite sport of choice. One of the many key components if not the most important component to a hockey game is the hockey stick. Hockey sticks have been around
When most people hear the word hockey, they think about skating, ice, and a puck. What most people do not think about is running, the blistering heat, and a small orange ball, however, I do. That is because I play dek hockey, not ice, meaning that we run, and our season is never over. Playing hockey is my favorite thing to do, and I have so many fond memories. Some of those memories are, playing hockey at Bill’s Golfland, U.S.A. Ball Hockey Tryouts, and playing at Penn Hills Dek Hockey.
Hockey is a very quick game. Probably the fastest game out there. The speed really helps with entertainment. Watching the players go back and forth, scoring chances everywhere. The watchers blood pumping quick and hardly any stoppages in the game. It is they only sport that actually allows fighting to occur. This entertains and gives pride to the fans when their teams player wins. As said before, any quality of other sports can be found in Hockey, In this case it was Boxing.
A team is allowed only six players on the ice at a time. These players consist of a goalie, right and left defensemen, right and left wingers, and a center. Defensemen stay back towards the blue line so none of the opposing team can get behind them. The wingmen stay towards their respective sides of the net. The center does just that jams the front of the net to either screen (block the view of) the goalie or deflects the shot into the net. The goalie, mostly stays in his crease to protect the goal however if he wants he may leave his crease (the light blue area by the net in the photo).
... make this possible, goalies observe the body language and facial expressions of opponents to know when a shot is coming. That way, they have more time to position their body accordingly (Haché 133).
Physics is involved in everyday life and can be an essential explanation for how things work. Being a lacrosse goalie involves physics concepts and proves how they apply to every movement that is made on the field. To better understand the physics of a goalie, you must understand how Newton’s Three Laws of Motion work; Inertia, force equals mass times acceleration, and equal and opposite forces, as well as another law torque and leverage.
