The Underlying Truth Behind the Types of Behaviors Observed in Pixar Movie Characters Behavior can be as defined as the way in which an individual acts or conducts themselves towards others, however, in psychology behavior is more specific and refers to the full range of physical and emotional behaviors that individuals project in both private and social settings. These behaviors include but are not exclusive to biological, social, intellectual, and spiritual aspects which are influenced by many factors such as culture, attitudes, emotions, persuasion, etc. In todays world it is clear that the media has a great impact on the lives of many if not all individuals. In this film, Woody is the protagonist and is accompanied by Buzz Light-year and the rest of Andy’s toys. The plot continues as Lots-O’-Hugging Bear (the antagonist of the movie), who initially acted like a compassionate and wise caretaker turns the day care into a ruthless prison for all the toys. It can be seen that Lots’-O-Hugging Bear went from having a happy fulfilling life to losing everything and having to turn to his dark side. He therefore becomes a prison warden to fulfill the hole that was left in place by his loss of household and in turn climbs the socioeconomic ladder, in a distinctive way which cause chaos, at the daycare as he implements ruthlessness. This upheaval of negative power at the daycare leads him to his worst transgression, resetting Buzz Light-year to his factory setting which erase all of Buzz Light-years memories (Giunchchigliani, 2011). Moreover, Lots-O’-Hugging Bear was depicted as a benevolent character in the previous movies however, his escalation of power and circumstances completely changed him. Woody’s courage and selflessness is shown when he is contemplating on if he should go back to save his friends from the torture at Sunnyside Daycare. He discusses among his new pals on what he should do. They all told him not to go because it would be a suicide mission, but he does not listen. At this moment he says, “ I don’t care how dangerous it may be. I need to go save my friends to go back home to Andy.” (Toy Story 3). This shows that although Woody knows that he might get caught and be tortured, he does not care. All he cares about is being able to go back to Andy with everybody. Also, Woody is a selfless leader because he decides that he can not leave his friends alone at Sunnyside. Instead of staying in the state of comfort he was in, Woody decided that he needs to save his friends from the evil, pink, strawberry- scented bear, named Lotso.
When the TV show first started, Pierre was given a little toy bank. As the movie went on and the show became more and more successful, more dolls started appearing around the room. Then when the movie started to go south, the piggy banks started going crazy. Slowly at first, then eventually completely freaking out.

After he uncovers Teddy’s paper world, the uncle reacts in a manner of ignorance and derision, mocking him for his decision to occupy himself with paper dolls. The uncle dubs Teddy as a “great big lummox … playing with paper dolls”, insulting Teddy for his hobbies with a tone of amusement and hysteria. In spite of Teddy’s agitation, the uncle prefers to make a mockery out of Teddy rather than accepting his unique hobbies, suggesting the uncle’s belief that Teddy’s activities are unfitting of someone of his age. In addition, Teddy’s uncle further aggravates Teddy by continuously ridiculing him, leading him to eventually destroy his treasured paper world. Despite Teddy’s attempts at validating the reality of his paper dolls, the uncle “burst into laughter, his cheeks the colour of a tomato.” Teddy’s uncle persistence in mocking Teddy implies his disapproval of Teddy’s world, believing that his world is ludicrous and absurd for someone of his age to be occupied with. The main character, Abner Snopes, sharecrops to make a living for his family. He despises wealthy people. Out of resentment for wealthy people, he burns their barns to get revenge. Abner’s character over the course of the story is unchanging in that he is cold hearted, lawless, and violent.
There are three older boys, Ralph, Jack, and Piggy, that have an effect on the group of younger boys. The Main character Ralph, changes throughout the novel because of his role of leadership and responsibility, which shapes him into a more strict but caring character as the group becomes more uncivilized and savage. At the beginning of the story, after the plane crashed on the island and the boys are accounted for, Ralph feels very free and absent. He finds a lagoon with warm water, and just like any other twelve year old boy, he goes for recreational swimming. Whizzoh!
Socialization plays in important part in the passing on of culture from generation to generation. It is defined as the lifelong process of social interaction through which we acquire a self-identity and the skills needed for survival. The agents of socialization provide the necessary social interactions to teach culture to individuals in a society. The four primary agents of socialization include parents, education, peers, and media. The most pervasive one, media, has a major role in teaching messages about the norms in culture. The purpose of this project was to observe the subtle messages that a TV series, like The Simpsons, send about gender, class, disability/ability, and age.
Human behavior in the social environment presents a multidimensional composite of person, environment, and time. As per Hutchinson (2008), “Person, environment, and time interact dynamically. Relationships are reconfigured as the multiple influences of human behavior ebb and flow” (p. 9). An analysis of human behavior in the social environment concerns examining the biological, psychological, and spiritual person; as well as, environment, culture, dyads, families, and communities. This paper will serve as an analysis and comparison of two films through the lens of human behavior in the social environment. A biopsychosocial framework will be utilized to assess and determine optimal treatment interventions for a selected character of each film. Hutchinson (2008) describes a biopsychosocial approach, “In this approach, human behavior is considered to be a result of interactions of integrated biological, psychological, and social systems” (p.11). Additionally, Ericson’s stages of psychosocial developmental in relation to chosen characters from the films “Rachel is getting married” and “Mother and Child” will be discussed.
Many psychologists have studied the effect of the media on an individual’s behavior and beliefs about the world. There have been over 1000 studies which confirm the link that violence portrayed through the media can influence the level of aggression in the behavioral patterns of children and adults (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2001). The observed effects include, increased aggressiveness and anti-social behavior towards others, an increased fear of becoming a victim or target of aggressive behavior, becoming less sensitive to violence and victims of violent acts, and concurrently desiring to watch more violence on television and in real-life (A.A.P. 2001). According to John Murray of Kansas State University, there are three main avenues of effects: direct effects, desensitization, and the Mean World Syndrome (Murray, 1995, p. 10). The direct effects of observing violence on television include an increase in an individual’s level of aggressive behavior, and a tendency to develop favorable attitudes and values about using violence to solve conflicts and to get one’s way. As a result of exposure to violence in the media, the audience may become desensitized to violence, pain, and suffering both on television and in the world. The individual may also come to tolerate higher levels of aggression in society, in personal behavior, or in interpersonal interactions. The third effect is known as the Mean World Syndrome, which theorizes that as a result of the amount of violence seen on television and also the context and social perspective portrayed through the media, certain individuals develop a belief that the world is a bad and dangerous place, and begin to fear violence and victimization in real life (A.A.P. 2001).

Corduroy is a children’s book by Don Freeman, it shows the “life” of a bear living in a toy department of a large store. One day a little girl named Lisa finds Corduroy and asks her mother if she can buy him. Her mother says, “no”, because Corduroy is missing a button. When other toys were asleep that same night, Corduroy goes off into the store to find a button. He sees a mattress of buttons and tries to pull one off thinking that it is his, and ends up falling on the floor, knocking a lamp down.

In addition, most of the films in Disney bring out many different gender roles and people who grew up watching them have been influenced greatly by the content in the films (Blum 13). This paper will involve the various roles played by the characters in the films and how their roles have influenced the society at large.
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.

Television programs that are targeted towards children, such as cartoons, can affect children in both positive and negative ways. I examined a variety of cartoons on both commercial and public television to observe the content of children's programming and determine the effects, both positive and negative, that programs have on children. The cartoons contain a wide variety of subject matters that can influence children in many different ways. I found that the majority of cartoons choose to use violence and inappropriate subject matter to entertain children. These images and stories can have a tremendous negative impact on children because the violence is rewarded without consequences, is glorified, and idealized. Children look up to the characters that have a negative impact by distorting their views on conflict resolution. There are, however, cartoons that contain little or no violence and often try to incorporate educational lessons that concern values and morals that are important for children to learn, thus having a positive impact.
