Constantly developing your skills as an MMA fighter is essential to gaining the edge over tough opponents. There are a number of important skills necessary to becoming a better fighter. Here's a list of five essential skills that are important to develop. 1. Speed Speed is to be considered of utmost significance as it affects much of a fighter's performance in martial arts and the techniques they use in many combat situations. By improving their speed combatants are ensuring that their attacks get to their target faster and produce more damage. Flexibility Flexibility in MMA is very important when it comes to the range in motion in your techniques. It increases the speed of the technique, as well as your ability to dodge or counter attacks. With a significantly more dynamic range in motion and the flexibility and control associated with that more dynamic range of motion, it becomes far easier for a fighter to shift their body into the position they want when they're on the ground. Transitioning from one position to another also becomes far easier. Developing flexibility will make the opponent's height less of an issue for the combatant. The fighter also won't have to fight the resistance of their own body nearly as much. Better flexibility also greatly improves the range of motion around the joints and the muscle movements themselves. Developing flexibility in the hips are extremely important when it comes to escaping grapples. Flexibility also helps when throwing devastating punches.
