My area of study is in nursing because my goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner. Being a nurse requires to have outstanding abilities in math and science. Nurses are also logical thinkers and they have wonderful communication skills. During my college career, I will have to participate in labs and have a required amount of clinical hours. In order to become a Nurse Practitioner, I will need a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification. My classes of interest are Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, and a lot of math classes. My professional goal is to attend Winona State University, to become a Nurse Practitioner. By attending Winona State University, I will receive the training that I will need to become a …show more content…
nurse. My first step towards achieving my goal is by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. While attending Winona State University, I will earn a CNA license. As a full-time student, I plan on working as a Certified Nursing Assistant until I receive my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. As a registered nurse, I will be a full-time student in Winona State University’s graduate program. After graduate school, I hope to be a Nurse Practitioner to help save people's lives. I want to help people fight cancer by serving as a fellow cancer survivor. I am heavily involved in my community because I volunteer at the local food pantry, the Relay for Life events, and The Heartbeat Center. I am a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and Art Club. Last year, I volunteered at the local food pantry because I enjoy helping out the community. This activity has a positive impact on my school and the community. I help people receive the food they need at a low-cost. Without food pantries, parents would be unable to feed their children. It impacts the community because it encourages them to help out those in need and to be a positive role model for others. In 2016, I gave a cancer survivor speech at my local Relay for Life event. My speech had a positive impact on my school and the community. It inspired the community to donate to the American Cancer Society and to participate in the Relay for Life events. I inspired cancer patients to continue their battle against cancer and to have courage along the way. I also honored those who have died from cancer. This activity had a positive impact on my school because I encouraged other students to volunteer in the community and to become a positive role model. For the past five years, I have collected donations for The Heartbeat Center.
I also helped set up for the summer concerts in the park. Without donations, the community would be unable to attend free concerts in the park and spend time with their family. This activity also has a positive impact on the community because it gives local musicians the opportunity to perform and to get recognized. I am a third-year member of the National Honor Society. For the past two years, my high school's National Honor Society chapter and I have made Valentine’s cards for the local nursing home. I enjoy being a member of the National Honor Society because it inspired me to volunteer in the community and to be a positive role model. For the past three years, I have been a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. I enjoy being apart of this organization because each year we organize a Splash Against Cancer event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The Slash Against Cancer is a water balloon fight for the high school students. The students are divided into groups and the winning team gets to compete with the teachers. Being an Art Club member has inspired me to volunteer in the community. For many years, I help decorate Christmas ornaments for the city hall’s. Then the city hall sells each of the ornaments for one dollar. As a result, the proceeds help the Art Club continue to promote art throughout the
community. With a 1,000 dollar scholarship towards my college education, I will work hard to get accepted into Winona State University’s nursing program. It will motivate me to continue working towards my goal to become a Nurse Practitioner. This scholarship will make a difference towards my college education because it will help lower some of my college costs. It will also make a difference for me because I live in a single parent household and I receive free/reduced lunch. My mother and I work at Hardee's and we live in poverty. My mother makes 13,847 dollars a year and she receives a small amount of child support from my father. My parents did not attend college and they are unable to set aside money for my education.
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Nurse practitioners (NPs), one type of advanced practice nurses, are licensed by the states where they practice and certified by private boards. Nurse practitioners hold advanced degrees in clinical practice and function in a wide variety of settings and across the life span. They provide a broad array of healthcare services ranging from managing treatment plans, to prescribing medications, to implementing health promotion services. As of 2014, 205,000 NPs were licensed in the United States with 86% of those prepared to deliver care to patients in primary care settings (NP Facts, 2015). The progression of the Nurse Practitioner movement that occurred in the 1960 and 1970s emerged as a creative and
One of these causes, the Miracle League of the South Hills is particularly close to my heart. A friend of my mother has a child who is severely autistic, and all my life my family and I have volunteered for many organizations to help special needs children, of all of these Miracle League has left the greatest impression on me. Ghandi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,” and that is exactly what has happened to me during my long term association with the Miracle League. I truly believe my association with this organization has helped me to become a better person, more kind, caring, outgoing, and energetic. Miracle League was founded on the belief that, “Every child deserves a chance to play baseball.” Miracle League operates specially designed fields on which they bring the game of baseball to children who may have never had the opportunity to play on a real field. I volunteer with the Miracle League Buddy program. The Buddy Program pairs volunteers with a Miracle League player to help the player The buddy is there to protect the player from balls, assist the player in batting and running the bases, and to be a friend on and off the field. I began volunteering as a buddy in 2012, and in 2014 I became a Buddy Organizer for my team, the Tigers. As Buddy Organizer I do exactly what it sounds like, I am in charge of pairing up players with a
I have served in the service committee at Collin College in Frisco. Our chapter has done many fundraising and fellowship events for students within Collin College and with other colleges in Dallas/Fort-worth area. We are currently working on a project called Miracle Network Dance Marathon. It is a fundraising event for the kids at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in Dallas. With the mission “dance for those who can’t,” participants stand or dance to music constantly for a period of time. Our first Dance Marathon will be on December 2nd. In addition, I have been volunteering at Frisco Family Service, Parr Library, and many other one-time events such as BT5K of American Brain Tumor Association’s.
When I reached high school I developed an Improv group by the name of The Stray Dogs in order to raise money for our hometown non-kill animal shelter, Lake County Animal Shelter. The shelter had recently made a statement how they were low on funds and unable to take in any more animals due to their supplies were almost nonexistent. Through putting on Improv shows a few peers and I were able to raise over $8,000 dollars and scout countless volunteers for the shelter throughout the course of four years. All of the money we made throughout doing four years worth of shows went directly to the shelter in order to empower, support, and strengthen the wellbeing of the animals and
“We're grateful for the generous support and donations we receive for our programs from those in Nanoose and the Fairwinds Community, and we very much appreciate St. Mary's Church for our donated office space. It's a privilege to live in a community where those with plenty, share so unselfishly with those in need,” says NCS chairperson, Jean Russell. Other local events like Lesley Seselja's Art in the Garden and themed events at Fairwinds Golf Club also raise and donate substantial funds
I applied to become the President of one of our school's club, FCCLA (Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America) and I ended up being the co-President with another fellow student. FCCLA has a popular community service event called, Taste of Chelan Restaurant Walk. The objective of the event is to help local business in our small town promote their restaurant and one of their dishes for tourists who come in for this event and locals who participate. I have done this event for about three years now, every time I participate I end up meeting different types of people. This event helps our community by prompting business during the slower times like Fall and Winter, and I am a proud active member of FCCLA that has helped this event.
I have tried to make both my school and my community a better place. I participate in a few group that try and help to better the community. First off, I am in National Honors Society. I volunteer with group activities and other volunteering opportunities such as unpaid elementary math tutoring. Second, I am almost finished my Eagle Scout Project, and this requires a lasting impression on your community. My project is about music and its effect on the elderly, and relating it to memory disorders, in hopes of improving their way of life. Third, most of my volunteering in the community is independent of an organization. I volunteer my violin skills to a group in need or a couple who does not have the money to pay some musicians. I donate my time
I am currently a junior Psychology major with minors in Sociology and Human Development. Additionally, I am taking prerequisite courses in order to apply for an Accelerated Bachelor’s in Nursing Program. My ultimate life goal is to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or a Neonatal/Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. These goals are manifested in the classes I am taking, as well as the real world experience I am gaining.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have volunteered at the elementary school. It opened my eyes to a few of the problems in our communities. I was able to make others aware of those problems through volunteering and being proactive. I am going to continue with the program for as long as I am able to do so. If only we had millions of these programs across the globe, many other children would be able to benefit and develop the skills to succeed educationally.
I can also make a difference in the community where I live. Last year my class held a car wash to raise money for the Animal Shelter. We went to visit the dogs there and I realized that the money we raised made a difference for some of them.
With the year, soon to be closing to an end, I could not help but stop to reflect on past events where I gave back to the community that has given me so much. In between the summer of leaving Year 1 and entering Year 2, I got in contact with Sanders Memorial Elementary School, my previous elementary school, asking if I could come over a few days a week to volunteer. My request thrilled them because with the 2017-2018 school year quickly coming, there was a lot to get done in a limited amount of time, and they could use all the help they could get. Shortly beforehand, I also got in contact with my close friend to see if she would be interested in volunteering with me. She also replied with a yes, and little did I know, we got a lot more done together than I could ever do alone.
Being involved in the Charity Club at my school has enabled me to do my share regarding community service. In the Charity Club we organize meetings where we come up with different projects , and then we find ways to collect money and clothes for families in need.Just recently we did this project called MAAT, and the purpose of this project was to help the poor families in Pristina and grow the sense of humanism and volunteerism among the youth. During New Year’s day along side Red Cross we shipped food and clothes for families in the region. It was honestly the best feeling ever, seeing the smiles in their faces when they saw the presents we had for them, was priceless.
Everybody knows what a nurse is, but not everybody knows what a nurse does, or what it takes to be a nurse. Nursing goes far beyond just taking vital signs, doing patient assessments, and saying “The doctor will be with you shortly.” Nursing is not for the faint of heart. One cannot wake up one day, and decide, “I think I’ll be a nurse!” One must be driven, motivated, and passionate about caring for others. The numerous requirements, tasks, and benefits are all things to consider when thinking about becoming a nurse.
This year, I had the opportunity to give back to the community in many ways. I volunteered at Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, and the county Science Museum. These volunteering experiences further opened my eyes to the needs of my community and the many opportunities to serve by volunteering.
