Most students go to school. But we don’t realize why school is important. Some may say that we learn in school. But there other important things in school as well. Especially in this book, most of the story took place in the school, Beacher Prep. What the kids did in school affected each other’s lives. For example, in the story if anyone said anything to someone else it affects their behaviour at home. In my final task I will share more reasons of why school is important.
One of the reasons why school is important, is that in school you interact with other people. If you didn’t go to school then you would sit at home being bored. At school you get involved in group activities and hands on projects. In the book August got express his feelings in school. Don’t know what I mean? Well that’s because you are already part of the community. No one looks at you differently since you don’t look different and most people know you. In the book August always stayed home so not many people would know about him, plus he does look different. When August went to school everyone stared at him for the first few months but after that most kids told their parents about this new kid and then everyone would know about him. When he comes home walking or driving with everyone else they also see him as part of the community. Even though it didn’t stop all the stares, it did stop some of them. In Boy's Life, the author uses Cory Mackenson to convey this theme. This boy is trying to be free from school. Cory Mackenson must work well in school to get out. This is stated in paragraph 5, "I had passed my math exam, and escaped--with a C-minus average, if truth must be known--the snarling trap of summer school." Cory Mackenson needed to work hard to pass his math exam. The text also states in paragraph 31, "I ran out into the golden sunlight, and my summer had begun." Cory now gets to enjoy being free and having fun during his summer, instead of going to summer school.
School was Dave's only refuge away from his mother, and it was the only place he could actually get food and feel safe. In America, we require our children to attend school until they are almost of legal age, push high school graduates to attend college and we constantly emphasize structured learning. Many children in today’s world lack many skills that would allow them to “teach” themselves outside of school leading to an increased interest in televisions, computers, and phones. Technology has taken away society’s attention away from independent learning such as reading, writing, and outside experiences. John Taylor Gatto’s emotional voice in his writing “Against School” has allowed me reveal my psychological voice regarding the educational system.
Otherwise, why now the parents spend a lot of money to send their children to a good school to study, because the school education environment to the children’s influence is very important. When Wes A moved to Bronx, his mother had made a decision to send her children to private school after her seeing how poor the public school system had become, so she worked multiple jobs to manage the cost and relied on her parents to take care the children before and after school while at work. “My mother decided soon after our move to the Bronx that I was not going to public school. She wasn’t a snob, she was scared.”(47) Because she knew, if the children are growth of a bad education environment, the children of the world to know nature will be distorted. One main doubt that many people believe is that home schooling makes a negative approach to one’s child social skills. This is based on the supposition that children who are home schooled are trapped at home all the time. People who still suppose that children are home 365 days a year are mistaken, because home school children have several opportunities to interact with other kids their own age. According to Dr. Brian D. Ray, his studies substantiate that, homeschooled students are engaged in outside activities. They are frequently caught up in activities such as field trips, sports, etc. Homeschooled children do not only hang out with people their own age, but they learn how to socialize with people of all ages. This is a great benefit because they learn to communicate and become amiable (Ray 1).

In “School is Bad for Children”, John Holt discusses the faults and failures of the education system. According to Holt traditional schooling stifles children’s curiosity and learning, causing them to be ill-equipped as adults. He believes children are smarter before they enter school, having already mastered what he says is the most important thing, language. Holt goes on to describe how children no longer learn for themselves in school. Their learning has become a passive process. Children then come to realize teachers are not there to satisfy their curiosity, and in turn, grow ashamed and accept what they think teachers wants them to believe. School also becomes a place where uncertainty and incorrect answers are forbidden. The students learn how to cheat and pretend to work when the teacher is looking. As a result, they only use a small portion of their brain, and soon they grow bored. Holt suggests this boredom shuts off their brain and is the reason why many students turn to drugs. The environment through which education is realized is critical for the learning children. In this aspect, there exist many forms of schooling that support education of children; public schooling, home schooling and private schooling. However, each method of schooling has its own advantages and disadvantages compared to other schooling methods. The above arguments are based on both home schooling and public schooling. Each schooling method focuses on pertinent issues that make the method as the most ideal compared to the other. Moreover, these arguments focus in realization of specific goals of education and education environments as indicated in each subheading.
After twelve years of school, it took me until now to figure out exactly why I had been there all those years. It was not to torture me by making me learn how to spell but to make sure that my classmates and I got the opportunity to make the most of ourselves. Opportunity that would come from learning as much as possible from books and beginning to see that the world focuses on more than just history and English . I owe my success in life and school to teachers who taught me to spell and to be respectful and responsible. Those quick to argue with me say that school's usefulness is shallow: deeper-real-life experiences truly educate a person. School should be seen not only as a place to study, but also as a place to learn about real life. People cannot depend on experience alone for education just as they cannot solely rely on information from school books to prepare them for life. The lessons, whether from a book or not, learned in school transcend the classroom to real life situations.
