If you were anything like me when I was a kid, you would start off your mornings watching a learning show, like Barney, and then as we became older we ended up transitioning from Barney to a cartoon show like Phineas and Ferb when we get home from school. Finally, now as adults we watch our televisions shows at night when we have free time. Unfortunately for me, my family decided to move in a more modern direction and canceled our cable setup in lieu of switching to show providers like Netflix and Hulu. Because of this, I was unable to get the real experience of watching the shows in the morning, afternoon, and night like I did when I was a kid, but nevertheless I did my best. All the musical selections in all three shows were upbeat and catchy were probably with the intent of keeping the viewer interested in the show for as long as possible. In both Barney and Phineas and Ferb, the creators of the show opted to use brighter colors compared to the dark colors used in White Collar. I believe this was done to keep preschoolers’ attention on the show. I also noticed that the type of language used in Phineas and Ferb and Barney, was much simpler compared to the language used in White Collar. For instance, in the episode of Barney Goes to the Doctor, Barney says “I love brushing my teeth before I smile” (XXXX), which is simple compared to a line that Neal Caffrey says in White Collar, “For the love of god Peter, I swear that I did not steal those paintings of the German U-Boat” …show more content…

For example, when Barney talked about brushing your teeth he was actually talking about brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth wasn’t a code or had a second meaning, it was literally talking about brushing your teeth. However, shows like White Collar would be way easier to misunderstand because not everything said in the show means what it should. For example, the main character in White Collar, Neal Caffrey, often lied to his friend Peter. A preschooler might think that Neal is a standup guy, but the adults watching the show understand that Neal is not a standup guy and that what he is doing is actually wrong. Adult shows also have a more complicated plot which might make it harder for preschoolers to follow
