If you were anything like me when I was a kid, you would start off your mornings watching a learning show, like Barney, and then as we became older we ended up transitioning from Barney to a cartoon show like Phineas and Ferb when we get home from school. Finally, now as adults we watch our televisions shows at night when we have free time. Unfortunately for me, my family decided to move in a more modern direction and canceled our cable setup in lieu of switching to show providers like Netflix and Hulu. Because of this, I was unable to get the real experience of watching the shows in the morning, afternoon, and night like I did when I was a kid, but nevertheless I did my best. I decided to watch an episode of Barney, Phineas and Ferb, and …show more content…
All the musical selections in all three shows were upbeat and catchy were probably with the intent of keeping the viewer interested in the show for as long as possible. In both Barney and Phineas and Ferb, the creators of the show opted to use brighter colors compared to the dark colors used in White Collar. I believe this was done to keep preschoolers’ attention on the show. I also noticed that the type of language used in Phineas and Ferb and Barney, was much simpler compared to the language used in White Collar. For instance, in the episode of Barney Goes to the Doctor, Barney says “I love brushing my teeth before I smile” (XXXX), which is simple compared to a line that Neal Caffrey says in White Collar, “For the love of god Peter, I swear that I did not steal those paintings of the German U-Boat” …show more content…
For example, when Barney talked about brushing your teeth he was actually talking about brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth wasn’t a code or had a second meaning, it was literally talking about brushing your teeth. However, shows like White Collar would be way easier to misunderstand because not everything said in the show means what it should. For example, the main character in White Collar, Neal Caffrey, often lied to his friend Peter. A preschooler might think that Neal is a standup guy, but the adults watching the show understand that Neal is not a standup guy and that what he is doing is actually wrong. Adult shows also have a more complicated plot which might make it harder for preschoolers to follow
The panoply of programs a television provides allows a viewer to search for new interests and inspires them to do new things. I, for one, can attest to this, as my knowledge of baseball was limited as a child, until one day I decided to watch a broadcast of the San Francisco Giants; now I am a baseball superfan with friends from all over the country who share in this interest, and also a softball player who exercises every day. I did not become a couch potato from my experiences with television, but rather, a happier, healthier
Saturday Morning Cartoons Saturday morning cartoons are on the verge of becoming extinct on the major networks. Year after year there are continually less and worse cartoons on Saturday mornings. It was painful and sad but I thought that they had hit rock bottom and they will only get better from here. However, it now seems that cartoons may very well slide out of existence.
Postman mentioned that to watch television you do not need to have continuity meaning that it is not necessary for someone to watch a show from the beginning to comprehend what is going on. The types of behavior that you execute while watching television can be adapted to your behavior in your everyday life. For example if a kid is put in a situation in which he watches TV every day a show like Sesame street and they get used to the colors, the customs, the songs, and the puppets, by the time they are old enough to be inscribed in to school they are going to feel so uncomfortable and are going to see the environment as different. It is not a different environment then what they are used to and they are going to feel hostile at first. But if instead the kid is taught every day to spend time with his parents while they teach him or her how to read or how to write him or her is going to be better prepared for school because they know how to interact with other people, they have a continuous set of rules and regulations they have to follow, and because you as a parent would be completely sure they are learning instead of pretending they are learning with a
It is not uncommon for children to communicate many elaborate ideas that make absolutely no sense based on misunderstood information. However, it is not just young children who misunderstand information. People of all ages have been guilty of misinterpreting something that they hear. As a freshman in high school, such an incident happened to me. While enrolled in Mr. McGee’s Freshman Honors English course, I was required to write essays nearly every week for Read/Write Packets. One week, I was unfortunate enough to misinterpret the page number that I was given for the writing assignment, therefore, when I sat down to write the essay, I wrote about the wrong

Television has become a big part in children’s day-to-day lives especially in the 20th century. Children in this century rely on television to keep them entertained and educated instead of entertaining and educating themselves by participating in activities, which will teach them a lot more in life then the actual television. There is no doubt that children are most easily influenced by television because of the different content that they watch as well as the amount of time consumed watching TV. The television does have an emotional and intellectual development on children but this all depends on the content that they’re watching and the way that they absorb the information that the show is trying to send out. Different programs will portray
Although it is not significant for children to watch television programs between the ages of two and six, the exposure to specific shows may be beneficial. Specifically, focusing on Sesame Street and Blue’s Clues, the information and methods used during the show may help children learn basic social skills, such as the alphabet, number line, and basic social skills. By presenting information from multiple perspectives and settings, the children are able to recognize how to approach different situations. Also, by incorporating real-life experiences such as September 11th and Hurricane Katrina helps the child engage and understand the real-world around them (Gikow, 2009).
I think many ways young children could acquire knowledge and watching these types of programming could be a way for them to learn. These types of shows intrigue young children and I believe that these shows have a lot to offer for young children. Commercial and public programming both has the same goals of promoting social-emotional to young children. They want to make sure children understand and manage their emotions the right way, develop social skills, how to share, learn about the past, and many more. In the show, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood His pet fish died but his parent told him that it is okay to be sad but there are ways that he could feel better. They claim that asking questions, drawing, and doing something you enjoy doing will help. I believe that their goal in this episode was to understand and manage emotions because it introduces different ways children could deal with similar situations. These shows are also promoting social skills that are necessary for school and life. I believe that it is important for young children to watch these types of shows because they will acquire knowledge and at the same have fun
Sesame Street has an effect on children's development. Their academics become strongly improved through the different sequences of learning activities that Sesame Street provides within the television program. Sesame Street shows a variety of learning programs that deal with numbers, shapes, colours, letters, etc. The cognition part of Sesame Street teaches children how to be interactive, how to compromise and introduce them to new material. Emotional development can be shown in Sesame Street's online gaming and through their songs and also part of their television showing. With these 3 aspects of Sesame Street, children can get just about the same education as a child would in preschool. The television show for children called “Sesame Street” has an effect on children through their academics, their cognition development and their emotional development.
Television in many countries, especially the United States, is an object that has had a great deal of influence on our daily lives and traditions. Many people have nightly rituals where they watch their favorite programs on the TV. This item also provides a person with many different ideas and information
For this response paper the modern-day pop culture reference I chose was the episode “The Belly of the Beast” from Disney’s Phineas and Ferb. The episode begins with Phineas and Ferb attending the Danville Harbor Day festival, which is celebrating the day that the Danville citizens drove out the giant shark that had been terrorizing their town. Disappointed by the “shark” that was chosen for the reenactment of this event, Phineas and Ferb decide to create their own giant robot-shark. Naturally, as all Phineas and Ferb episode go, their sister Candace has to stop them!
There is bribing, threatening, bad usage of words, and much more. For instance, when Porky the Pig and the dog were hunting and trying to kill Bugs Bunny who they don’t like, the pig held up a sign with random symbols, indicating it is not a kid friendly word. Even though it doesn’t say a specific word, most people can figure out what it means. Another example of a scene that again is not appropriate for a children’s cartoon is in the episode “Blue Danube”. The mother of three white swans were swimming when a black duck came and started swimming along.
Similarities between fairy tales are evident all throughout the tales. A specific similarity that I thought was important was the element of some kind of deal made between the protagonist and the antagonist of the story. For example, in Rapunzel, The Little Mermaid, and Jack and the Beanstalk. In Rapunzel, the two parents were stealing a plant called a rampion from an old witch and she didn’t like this. She made a deal with them that they could take as many plants as they wanted as long as when their first born child was born, they would give it to the witch. In The Little Mermaid, a mermaid named Ariel is sick and tired of living under the sea. She observes all the fun that humans get to have and she wants to be apart of it. She makes
should be censored to an extent, yet they do not see the significant effect that regular television shows really have on their children. As a child grows, more and more statistics are proving that they are being exposed to too many shows that should be censored. Many studies have concluded that young children are most affected by what they see on television (Dritz, Russel 1996). For example, a child that watches a cartoon with a lot
Not to mention, Adult Swim cartoons are the worst for a child. Those cartoons are strictly cartoons for adults, because they contain more mature content. With this in mind children will find a way to watch them anyway. Shows like Family Guy has extreme violence, profanity, and sexual references. In reality children will start fighting more aggressively, using profound words and phrases and make sexual references towards one another. The consequences are kids can pick up bad habits from watching cartoons that contain violent
