Stars and Stripes The painting by Barbara St Jean, Stars and Stripes represents peace and freedom. Jean created this painting in August of 2013. It is said that the painting is a play on the story of the Arabian Nights. Stars and Stripes shows great composition and fullness. Within the borders of the painting contains many blue, brown and purple tints and shades. Located towards the back, right before the lines of the horizon is three Arabian looking buildings. The one closest to the left side is the tallest one, and at the top of the tall skinny building is a circular cone shape. The middle building is rectangular at the bottom and on top of there is a small building like the one on the left. The building on the right is just like the other building …show more content…
In the sky she used a squiggly line technique. She layered colors, as well as added silver stars into the sky. The Arabian buildings are using many shapes. Those shapes include rectangles, circles, squares and just lines. The sky is a main attention drawer for me, as the colors just stand out and make everything brighter. When I see this painting, it makes me feel like there is peace. This painting brings thought to me. Why did Barbara St Jean decide to do a painting like this one? My thoughts, is that it was showing peace. The painting looks calm, as the two zebras are meeting in the middle, the buildings are basic, but abstract, and the sky adds color and happiness. I think that she wanted to show happiness and love. The zebras meet and the colors are simple but yet add so much. If I were to be in this painting, I would feel safe and calm. I love the Stars and Stripes painting because it brings calmness to me with the idea of it being basic. I think that if the painting shows some type of story, or speaks to you yourself, it has meaning. Every painting has meaning and it may be a different meaning for everyone, depending on how they take it
Wayne, transforms this painting into a three dimensional abstract piece of art. The focal point of the painting are the figures that look like letters and numbers that are in the front of the piece of art. This is where your eyes expend more time, also sometimes forgiving the background. The way the artist is trying to present this piece is showing happiness, excitement, and dreams. Happiness because he transmits with the bright colours. After probably 15 minutes on front of the painting I can feel that the artist tries to show his happiness, but in serene calm. The excitement that he presents with the letters, numbers and figures is a signal that he feels anxious about what the future is going to bring. Also in the way that the colors in the background are present he is showing that no matter how dark our day can be always will be light to
The colors used in this painting are a combination of bright and dark, giving a sense of professionalism and unconventional feel to the ambassadors and their backdrop. Their clothing is brittle and complete. The composition of this painting is mainly “stuffed” into the center column of the image with the ambassadors substituting walls marking the end of the items in the composition as well as forming an area that our eyes are tensed
The painting clearly shows Mars and Venus being tied together by a cupid. So I can see why this is the most popular translation of this painting. My personal response was really strong after seeing the painting for the first time. As soon as I saw this painting I knew that it had a deeper meaning to it; and not just some people being tied together by a cupid. I knew right away that it had to do with Roman mythology just from the names. After looking at this painting for a while there is still something that the artist is trying to portray, that is really tough. It feels like there is more going on than what seems. The painting has such a calm tone to it but it gives a little hint of roughness with the sword and the horse, which I think, helps to balance this painting.
A symbol that I thought stood out was the signature on the back wall. This symbol, in my opinion, is another hard to connect symbol. The signature on the wall belongs to Jan Van Eyck. Many people may think that the signature is not significant to the painting and the placement is not important. Jan Van Eyck’s signature makes the painting a valid wedding certificate. Without knowing the couple was getting married, it would almost be impossible to make the connection with the signature.
This painting made me cry. After knowing her story, this meaning of this painting is so apparent and distressing. The biblical story of Susanna says that two elders were infatuated with her beauty and cornered her in a garden one day. To save their skin, they lied in court and said that they had seen her lay with a man that was not her husband. They had been lying. Daniel convinced the court that the two men were bearing false witness and both men were put to death. The turmoil that this young woman went through is parallel to what happened to Artemisia when she was a young woman. You can see the pain and confusion on Susanna’s face and the condemning judgement that the two judges are casting upon her. Susanna is nude with a simple sheet draped over one leg and her breasts are exposed, it makes her appear vulnerable. I think she chose this biblical heroine for this painting because it helped depict the tragedy of her own life. She was only 17 years old when she painted
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, or LACMA as it is commonly known, is among the world’s largest art collections in North America, and to be specific enough the most prevalent artwork in the western United States (Compton 165). This massive art museum has a collection of over 100,000 artworks, which extends from the ancient times to present days (Gilbert and Mills 174). These collections, which are mainly from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin-America and America itself, are grouped into several departments within the museums buildings, depending on the region, culture, media, and time period. This paper analyzes the different genres of art and explains the main features that make the Islamic artworks distinguish themselves as historic masterpieces, by using stylistic and interpretive analysis methods.
The composition of the piece is combined with pictures of President Kennedy, geometrical shapes and superheros such as Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. The piece itself does not really show movement, but the images all relate because of the viewing of media, politics and social awareness that Basquiat wanted to express to the art world. The color variation of this piece embraces a bit of pop art, which indicates the huge influence that Andy Warhol had on Basquiat at the time. A Lot of the clip pictures are bold but their color schemes are different such as the President Kennedy's picture contrast with the superhero clippings contrast within dark red and light red with Kennedy’s picture .The mood of the painting expresses sadness and despair, but eagerness for hope. During the 1960’s, President Kennedy was assassinated. Basquiat viewed him as an idol which shows why his picture takes up most of this art piece.. At the time, Kennedy represented change and hope, something that Basquiat had difficulty coping with with heroin
When you put all these aspects put together with my interpretation of what is happening in the painting, a sense of calmness and security was constructed for me. No matter what this couple may be going through at the end of the day they still lean on each other for support. The complementary colors symbolized a sensation of strength between them, the balance of the composition created a stability characteristic, and the smooth and fluid brush strokes created a tranquil energy between the
Bihzad has placed strong emphasis on the complexity of the palace’s architecture which he has adorned with colorful ornaments and emblazoned with gold. Each room is decorated with rugs and tiles featuring complex floral and asymmetrical patterns that cover each chamber from floor to ceiling. The palace appears to be three stories tall and features a balcony on the left and a zigzagging staircase on the right. The asymmetrical style of these two architectural features gives the impression of the work being 3-dimensional ...
Every individual interprets a painting in his/ her own way and sometimes one could find more than one explanation for the same piece of art. As a non-professional my understanding of this painting indicates that it represents a medical experiment of a cow that in her turn is observing another painting of her own species. The cow is accompanied by a group of people who probably are scientists and doctors. Realism is well executed in the painting. To be more clear, on the right side one scientist is standing with pen and paper in his hand to take notes of the cow’s reactions to the painting. The doctors and the people standing by all wearing glasses, except that one person on the left who has a mop in his hand, possibly to clean after the cow
...retation of the painting some aspects were surprising to how dark and heavy hearted she could speak, she took an interesting perspective. However in her interpretative poem she found a perspective of the painting that connected with her. As she used every stroke of darkness painted into the canvas an opportunity to have it symbolize this darkness and evil that resides in the world. It told her story and her experience of a starry night. Similarly Van Gogh had used every stroke of light painted into the canvas to be a symbol of beauty, and a symbol of his fascination of the night sky and its illuminating lights. He uses swift movements of his brush to depict a sky that seem to be able to sweep the mind away from the frustrations of this world in to the dreamy night light. A single painting worth a million words tells many stories through every perspective.
Jasper John's painting, commonly called Three Flags, captured my attention right away. The painting was made in the year 1958. It measures 30 7/8 by 451/2 inches and is 5 inches deep. The painting was made with encaustic canvas and comprised of three flags that are superimposed to form tier arrangement creating a three-dimensional artwork. The three flags appear in different sizes with each flag about 25% smaller than the other. The inner flag and the middle flags are only partially visible. The flags resemble the United States of America’s flag that was used in the 1950s. The flags were painted with thirteen red stripes that alternate with white stripes. It also has forty-eight white stars that are in a blue canton (Jasper Johns, 2010).
The second painting was by George W. Bellows and named Shoghead. This painting brought a sense of ease and relaxation. I can picture myself on the top of the mountain listening to the waves crash on the sides. The open countryside topped by the clouds give the painting a sense of realism. The extremely bright blue water stands out the most, though the focal point is not clear. There is not an excessive use of paint. It is as if Bellows caked it on his brush and made quick short strokes. The use of such dark colors on the hill is a mystery. The terrain has a roughness that makes the painting come to life. The artist did a great job of showing the depth. If I had to guess, he was influenced by Picasso’s work because of the extensive use of thick point.
From the piece of artwork “Rain at the Auvers”. I can see roofs of houses that are tucked into a valley, trees hiding the town, black birds, clouds upon the horizon, hills, vegetation, a dark stormy sky and rain.
The great mosque of Samarra was once the biggest mosque in history until it was attacked and destroyed. Before the destruction of the mosque, the wall paintings employed a wide range of subjects, it included geometric patterns and figural scenes depicting people taking part in courtly activities, such as playing and listening to music, dancing, or drinking wine at court banquets 2 and in the Mosque there were painting of people doing happy and fun things, it implies that the Mosque was a happy place for ...
