The hiring process can be overwhelming for a company, but the organization needs to make sure all information is gathered in regards to an applicant. The company needs to investigate and take the time to fully get to know the applicant before and after a job interview. Just because an applicant interviews very well and he/ she states they are a loyal, respectful, and law abiding citizen, the potential employer still needs to investigate and conduct a thorough background and reference check. These two investigations can reveal a lot about the applicant and it will also give the potential employer the chance to talk to past employers about the individual to get an accurate account of the individual’s job performance. A background check is essential for any potential employer to perform in order to fully understand the previous actions of the applicant. For example, a banking institution was going to hire an applicant that interviewed very well and had great experience until the company ran a background check on the applicant. The background check could show that the applicant was charged with forgery and stealing checks. The “Ban the Box” is a law that took effect on January 1, 2014, and it inhibits companies from asking about a potential employee’s criminal history on the initial applications for employment (Deitchler, Fliegel, Fitzke, & Mora, 2013). The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) endorsed this Ban the Box in that its contemplation of criminal history of arrests or convictions in the Title Ⅶ of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Deitchler, Fliegel, Fitzke, & Mora, 2013). Organizations rely on employment interviews as a way to predict the future job performance and work-related personality traits of interviewees. Over the years validity of the employment interview has been under scrutiny, so it is no wonder that is has been the topic of many research papers. The definition of the employment interview is “a personally interactive process of one or more people asking questions orally to another person and evaluating the answers for the purpose of determining the qualifications of that person in order to make employment decisions” (Levashina, Hartwell, Morgeson, and Campion 2013, p. 243).
The millennial generation has the displeasure of being alive in a culture where people use dangerous weapons to commit horrible crimes. On December 14th, 2012 someone walked into Sandy Hook Elementary school and open fire on children and adults taking 26 lives (Weekend Edition Saturday). On July 20th, 2012 a gunman in Denver Colorado, open fired on a crowded movie theater killing 12 and wounding 58. On January 8th, 2011 six people laid dead in the parking lot of a grocery store in Tucson, Arizona. All were victims of gun violence. All of these men should of been forbidden to obtain firearms under the Brady Bill passed in 1993. Mr. President, I ask that you consider funding an updated background check system that will save American lives.

Some will work based on the needs of money to survive, some require money to feed their love ones, and some just need money for their own leisure. In life, most people work just to stay busy, and even work until it’s time for them to retire. When applying for a job, the employer will ask for a résumé or a job application. When the information is given, it contains a work history which is a detailed report of all the jobs that a person has held, including company name, job title, and dates of employment. Companies typically required that applicants must provide their work history when applying for a job. A person’s work history is used by prospective employers to verify the information that a person has provided and to be contacted by pervious employers for background checks.

Employees will always hire the most qualified person based on their resume, or brief account of one’s education and professional experience.
