To start off my auto-biography let me explain exactly what useless facts are and why that is my main idea for this auto-biography… Useless facts are facts that are useless. I know its a bad explanation, but it’s hard explaining something that is already explained. Unless you need an explanation for useless then you might as well stop reading and instead go read a dictionary. But if you’re too lazy to grab a dictionary and read it here’s the definition: “Not fulfilling or not expected to achieve the intended purpose or desired outcome.” So if you were to connect the dots, useless facts basically mean facts that don’t serve their purpose of being a fact or aren’t fulfilling enough, whatever that means. Here’s an example of a useless fact. My purpose, at least the one given to me, is to graduate high school with outstanding grades, add in being valedictorian because my expectations are out of this world, and after doing that I’ll go to college. And not just any old community college nope, not even a college more like a university. And this university, the most talked about it seems, is Harvard. It’s one of those universities everyone knows about and wants to get in; and not because it has a major they want to study under, it’s because if you get in you will be considered an amazingly smart person and superior to everyone else. …show more content…
These expectations weren’t like the ones your family puts on you since my parents are both doctors with PhDs or whatever smart people have. And to them my overall happiness was dependent on whether or not I get straight A’s or end up being valedictorian. And this overall, sucks big
In life, we are faced with many expectations that are either bestowed upon us by parents or superiors or chosen by ourselves. Just within the last few months, I can recall many expectations in my own life and how I dealt with
The feminist theory, the idea of gender inequality, still exist in our society. Gender, just like race, structures the world, yet women are treated unequally in most aspects. Women are seen as a minority group compared to men. They are expected to be sensitive, weak, supportive, and passive. In the other hand, men are seen as dominant figures that obtain roles that are highly valued. They are though as strong, independent, and competitive human beings. In addition, gender is biological. Each gender one is born with, either man or woman, later on leads one to adopt a gender identity early in life which creates a development of gender-role performances in society’s view. Therefore, in society, each one of us are created to find our own self-discovery.
enough; the only true fact is that you have to believe them. I feel it
Many girls of different ages fantasize about the perfect wedding, perfect husband, a gorgeous dress, and the happiness to come after the wedding. At one point I was just like these girls. I saw marriage as a paradise that everybody should experience. Around tenth- grade, my rose tinted glasses were removed and I witnessed just how bad a marriage could get to the point of divorce. The divorce my parents went through, changed my entire view on monogamy. I now see marriage in a more realistic point of view and that it is not an easy journey as I once had thought it was.
I will always remember the effect of a civil war in Nigeria that left hundreds of thousands of children malnourished. Tens of thousands of the rural population were afflicted with different types of diseases. Malaria fever was prevalent, and it was the main cause of death among children and infants. I can recall vividly sitting in an empty room after the end of the civil war in 1970, and assured my self that I must go beyond the confines of my continent – Africa to seek knowledge so as to assist in alleviating the suffering of my people. After I had graduated from high school, my dream of coming to the United States of America was far fetched reality. At that time in my life, coming to America was almost impossible. My family lost everything during the civil war. The civil war forced my parents to abandon their properties in the northern group of provinces, and returned to their ancestral home in the southern region. The soil is sandy and porous – the region suffers from soil leaching and soil erosion due to torrential rainfall. Harvests from our farms after six months of toiling under the heat of the sun were scanty. We barely eked out a living. Life then was harsh, and the future was blink. In spite of the odds confronting me, I was determined to forge ahead no matter what.
When expectations are unrealistically low or high, they hurt the person on the receiving end by making them feel like a failure and making them stressed. When these expectations are low, they can be detrimental to a person's self-esteem and learning outcome. This is exactly what happens in " I just wanna be Average." Healthy expectations are met when the teachers are understanding and help the students, as Jack MacFarland did in the story. On the other hand, unrealistic high or low expectations keep students from reaching their true potential and stress them out. It makes them want to be "the average student" (pg 318) when these expectations are set high, and makes them unwilling to learn, and "cultivate stupidity" (pg 318) when they’re set low. Overall, expectations should be healthy, they should be within reach and match the potential of the person on the receiving
Expectations is defined as a strong belief that someone should achieve something in the future. Parents often set high expectations for their children whether is in arts, school, and sports. Often, these expectations put pressure on children to make their parents happy. But to what extent is too high??
From a young age, I was very curious. Curiosity caused my mind to see everything from a different perspective than most. I saw what could be improved and how I could improve. For example, when it came to editing movies, I was always able to see what could how it could have been better or I questioned how they had created it. My curiosity led me to try many different activities throughout high school, such as film camps, stage managing for plays, yearbook, and even creating videos for Rochester High School’s awards day. Finally, my junior year, I decided it was time I made films of my own for competitions. I wanted to have something that I could call my own. When it came to the two films I did for contests, I was there throughout the whole process.
A college graduate, for example, may expect to acquire a house in a high-end estate and drive an expensive car one year after graduating. The thought of such an accomplishment brings happiness to the mind. However, such expectations fails in most of the cases. The individual is thus left disillusioned and with no hope of the future. The feeling that all is lost after such a short term failure may bring immense sorrow in the life of an
Article one gives the student’s point of view on how living up to high expectations can cause a great deal of stress. However, the second article explains the point of view from a parent, providing statistics on a parent’s level of expectation. The two sources are different because they provide information on both kinds of expectation; self-expectation and family expectation. They are common because the two article explain the affect that expectations can have on the student, both good and bad. They both supply information about the benefits of living up to a high expectation and also cons of living up to
My education journey has been through some setbacks, but I have continued to push forward and conquered. I have felt that I have a fixed mind set and just am not capable of achieving some things. After learning the difference between growth and fixed mindset I have realized that everyone is capable of learning anything through hard work and dedication.
I grew up in the 80s (born in 1977) and while I am sure that era impacted me in more ways than I am even aware of, I think that it was my own personal home life that set me on my current path. My mother was much older (she was 40 when I was born) and only had a 6th grade education. My father was 19 when I was born and had his GED. They had a tumultuous relationship for obvious and private reasons. They divorced when I was seven years old and I remained with my mother. Both parents worked in manual labor type jobs—my mother cleaned houses and my father repaired mobile homes. Neither knew how to be parents. My mother was an alcoholic who, I now believe, was also bipolar, and my father was just
Two-thirds of children who participate in extracurricular activities are expected to attain at least a bachelor’s degree, whereas only half of children that do not participate do (National Center for Education Statistics, 1995). Childhood is a very important time in our lives, a time when we develop many vital skills that follow us into adulthood. Some people laugh or scoff at us parents that keep our children to busy schedules. Those same people would also argue that our children should be allowed to have a childhood, to not be so tightly scheduled in their daily lives. Before jumping on that bandwagon, I would suggest doing a little research. Participating in after-school activities has shown to benefit children in many ways. Children should
