You know when you see another peer that doesn’t socialize or communicates and doesn’t want to give eye contact is “weird”. Well, today I’ll be talking about Autistic people and their behaviors. As an adult and a baby, there’s not really a difference between them for having Autism. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and stroke will discuss on how ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) works, what causes it, and what common signs are. As well as that, Autistic people aren’t just negativity. People who are autistic are special, they’re human beings that are sent from God with amazing valuable gifts, talents, and key strengths. There are disruptions defects in genes that can control the brain development and premature labor. Although, …show more content…
Autistic people can live the American dream. In two of my sources, that I incorporated in this essay speaks about how two people have lived a very complicated life and defiantly needed help from others but they turned out to be better than what they expected. One of them has been working at ETS (Educational testing service) for a long time, but yet loved working there and would never give up the job. On the other hand, he did it all by himself with no one’s help because he had the confidence in himself. Furthermore, I will be mentioning on how there is hard work for people to have prosperity and success (the American dream). Additionally, to the barrier (Autism) of contemporary society that is keeping this dream from becoming a reality for almost all citizens of our nation. I will be having at least around 6 sources and ensure that the negative and positive of Autism is balanced. In source 4 and 6 they have identical things going on. A guy named Kevin Petranich who is 34 years old has a completive job but yet loves working with it. He’s worked in the mailroom at ETS (Educational Testing Services) in Princeton over 13 years. Petrainich loved working there so much that the manager had to kick him out at the end of the day since he’d never want to leave “He comes in and if there is mail here, he will do it before he gets set for the day. That has always been Kevin since the day he got trained,” said Jillian Paterson, senior manager of interoffice services for ETS. “… We used to basically have to kick him out at the end of the day when we were shutting off the lights.” A few people want to appreciate special kids on how they take care of themselves and are living in a good environment with not much help or anyone to help them with. This shows that special kids don’t need to be judged by others. It’s harder for them to get a job like this, but they may actually be even better. In source 6 The U.S department of labor spoke about Autism and how they made and awareness day just for it. Obama stated that through his life he’s experienced misconceptions about capabilities and competency of autistic people. Barack Obama issued a proclamation to recognize “World Autism Awareness Day 2016”. Obama starts to recognize that all autistic people possess valuable gifts, talents, and key strengths, and experience diverse challenges in education, employment, and community living. This proclamation noted the importance of making sure that autistic Americans have a chance to put their talents and skills to work in great jobs. Obama also emphasized the need to “break down barriers to completive, integrated employment for people with disabilities.” In sources 1 and 2 discuss about how the National Neurological Disorders and stroke works/what causes it/ and what some common signs are.
In this article for number one, the institute outlines the process of how Autism works and what it could be treated with. They claim that premature labor can be the cause of Autism. “Studies suggest that ASD could be a result of disruptions in normal brain growth very early in development. These disruptions may be the results of defects in genes that control brain development and regulate how brain cells communicate with each other. Autism is more common in children born prematurely.” Source 2 is very similar to source 1 as in a girl named Wendy Chung talks about what we know about autism and what we don’t know. As well as people think vaccine does cause Autism, but it does not. “In addition we’ve changed our definition in time, in fact we’ve widen the change of autism. What caused autism?. In a common miss conception is that vaccine caused autism. But let me very clear vaccine does not cause autism. In fact, the original study was wrong, that suggested that was frugality and was retracted from the journal that was published and got his medical license taken away.” Chung outlines that the institute of medicine repeatedly have checked that vaccine does not cause it but yet one of the ingredients in it, Thimersol, has caused it but that has been removed from …show more content…
vaccines. Furthermore, with sources 3 and 5, they start stating that the economy is horrible and how there is always going to be a struggle for kids who have problems.
A south wales fixer faced bullying throughout his whole entire school career just because of his syndrome. Dwayne Way (20 years old with Asperger’s syndrome) discusses on how he got diagnosed with this disorder and how he struggled to have friends and actually have a life. “A lot of time I’ve grown up without friends because people do not know how to react to the condition.” Way has struggled to learn multiple things at school. Only because he didn’t know how to react to the situation. Later on he made a video for people with conditions like his to watch. To realize that there is support out there for them and so he could educate others without the conditions to show that they’re all equal and deserve fair treatment. In source 5, Nicole Raimann babbles about how this economy is horrible because her son grew up having autism yet later on her husband figured out their insurance and the plan they had was completely worthless when it came to helping her son. “I sit here and write this as I am surrounded by boxes and moving mess. This is my last day of living in our house. Tomorrow night we will be sleeping in the rental home we leased down the street. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a dream and that I will wake up soon. I can hardly believe that my son was injured and that our insurance doesn’t cover him.”
Raimann starts to outline how everything that was theirs got taken away because they needed the money to help her son to become better. Their house, their car, their food; and had to learn how to live without all of that. In conclusion, the American dream can be accomplished with Autism. Autism takes time for people to learn how to live with it and do more great things in life. Just because it’s difficult to deal with. In my essay I have put a couple sources of people claiming about their children having autism and how difficult it could be. It isn’t just because they have autism, it could be because some people don’t want to help because they don’t have patience or it could be difficult because people treat them differently all the time. People who have these disorders have valuable gifts, and are special which is the reason why God sent them down to us. But yet some people don’t see it. They become rude and make fun of them just because they’re different when that shouldn’t even be a problem. Everyone is different in their own ways. And everyone should know that by now, there are some positivity and negativity in life that has to do with these disorders. But they will become better in the future or even now, everyone just has to believe in these kids with these disorders.
Autism is a developmental disorder that appears within the first three years of a child’s life. It affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. Autism affects 1 out of 68 children. It is also the fastest growing disability in the United States. There are multiple types of Autism, some children are considered high functioning, and some are low functioning. “High functioning” is when a child with autism can function in life, and completes jobs, and chores with little to no help. “Low functioning” is when a child with autism cannot complete simple daily tasks without help, and (or) constant supervision.
If I could have everyone's attention. Good-morning ladies and gentlemen. For those of you who don't know me my name is Jasmine Davenport. Today I’d like to discuss traumatic brain injury also referred to as TBI. I chose this topic because traumatic brain injury is a serious and complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities. Traumatic brain injury effects people of all ages and is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. A traumatic brain injury can be caused by a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts normal functions of the brain Also, traumatic brain injury can cause physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral affects.

Take a second and imagine a life without social skills. You wouldn’t have the ability to tell when someone is being sarcastic or funny. Mean or nice. Simple things like this is out of your grasp for reasons you will never understand or be able to change.
Autism is a form of neurodevelopment disorder in the autism spectrum disorders. It is characterized by impaired development in social interactions and communication, both verbal and non-verbal. There is an observed lack of spontaneous acts of communication; both receptive and expressed, as well as speech impairments. A person diagnosed with Autism will also show a limited range of activities and interests, as well as forming and maintain peer relationships. The individuals will display limited interests, which are often very focused and repetitive. He or she is likely to be very routine oriented and may show behavioral symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggressiveness, and self-injurious behaviors.
Almost all concerns about autism are baseless. Some are founded based on a suspicion of both doctors, and the fact vaccines are composed of
“Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how someone communicates with, and relates to other people. Autism also affects how a person makes sense of the world around them ”(autism.org). People wonder the causes of this disability, but what they do not know is there has not been an official cause yet determined! Although there hasn’t been an official cause of autism, there are a lot of theories people believe cause autism. One of the main theories is what pills or vitamins women take during their pregnancy. During pregnancy women have to be very careful on what antibiotics or vitamins they take. Sometimes the child can be affected by the pill which leads to problems during birth. “Another major theory is exposure to chemical pollutants, metals, pesticides, etc.” (webmd.). These substances contain a lot of poisons, chemicals, or bacteria that are very dangerous for a fetus to be exposed too. This is why people say pregnant women should just stay away from places where these substances are. But the main theory that many people think causes autism is vaccines. Although vaccines are supposed to prevent disease, people think there is a chemical in them which causes autism, but this theory is false! The cause of autism has not yet been fully determined, but it is not caused by vaccines; it is usually caused by genetics, metabolic or neurological factors, or lastly problems that occurred during birth.
Autism is something to embrace, not conquer” (211). But sometimes the message of hope. love, and struggle can best be understood from the lips of a child. In an article written by nine-year-old Joey Cariello, he simply stated: “I try to be the best brother I can. (I like him just the way he is even though he has autism)”
What is Autism? People are quick to label people as Autistic but very rarely understand what it means though they may nod their head and say "ohh makes sense". Autism - also know as ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder- is a complex developmental disorder affecting primarily ones communication and social interaction skills. Meaning they have difficulties communicating effectively or even at all. They struggle in social setting and don 't typically excel in social games or activities.
In the 1950’s many psychoanalysts who followed the Freudian belief system, argued that the condition of autism came from the parents withdrawing from the newborn child. The mother’s mostly being blamed for the infant’s condition. The name they choose for these dysfunctional mother’s was “refrigerator mother’s”, due there cold hearted nature. These women were told that they needed to pay more attention to their children or that they were disciplining them too harshly. Still, there are some theories that are being looked at in the recent years. Such as family genetics that is passed down from one parent to the child and there may also be environmental reasons. No one knows exactly how the environment has caused ADS; some theorize that vaccines are to blame for a sudden onset of ADS. Namely the measles vaccine is said to cause autism by damaging the lining of the stomach. Thimerosal is a preservative found in vaccines it contains mercury and has been linked to this disease. It has also been theorized that receiving too many vaccines at one time damages the immune system therefore causing autism. Research studies with family genetics have been done to identify how many genes are associated with ADS. These studies have revealed irregularities in parts of the brain in people suspected of having ADS. Also there has been a link to low levels of serotonin or other neurotransmitters in the brain that are needed to maintain
Two to six children out of every thousand will end up with Autism. Autism is one of the fastest growing disorders with a great amount of studies being put behind it. With its vast amount of different signs and symptoms, different forms, how its treated, and arguments about how exactly the disorder came to be , Austin can very well be one of the most confusing, and researched disorders, for its a disorder that stirs up tons of questions but yet gets hardly any answers. Autism is usually developed between ages of one and three, it effects communication and how the child interacts with others. It is defined by behaviors of the child and “ spectrum disorders” that re different with each person. (About Autism, 2008, para 1). Symptoms of autism can very in many different ways, and even different categories. Take the category of social interaction and relationships symptoms include : non verbal communication development problems such as , eye - to - eye gazing, body language, and facial expressions, failure to make friends with people their own age, lack of interest, and lack of empathy. The category for verbal and non verbal symptoms include : Delay or lack when learning to talk, about forty person of people with autism never speak, problems with starting, and keeping conversations, repetitive use of language, and difficulty understanding what someone is saying. Finally the category of interests and play include : unusual focus on pieces, preoccupation on certain topics, a need for the same routine, and stereotyped behaviors like hand flapping and body rocking.
In recent years, the correlation between vaccines and autism has become the subject of much debate. On one side, there are the anti-vaccinators, or anti-vaccers. On the other, there’s pretty much everyone else. Despite the fact that the anti-vaccination movement has little base in scientific fact, their campaign to end early infanthood vaccinations rages on. While doctors and scientists try desperately to make parents look at the research studies, vaccination rates continue to fall. But, even in these dark times, there is still hope that scientific fact will prevail and defeat the anti-vaccination fear mongers who have caused many children to fall ill and even die because their parents did not properly vaccinate them. This is one of the most saddening scientific failures of the twenty-first century. A failure to educate the public properly has resulted in child, even infant, fatalities. The anti-vaccination movement was started based on falsified data and continues only because of a lack of knowledge and proper education of the general public.
First, Deer dissected the study noting places within the study that were purposely designed to yield desired results. Deer suggested the small sample size of only twelve patients was far too limited in number to yield random results. His investigation into the study also noted the regressive developmental behavior was observed by the parents prior to the study’s beginning instead of being observed by those conducting the study. Deer also noted the diagnoses from numerous endoscopy procedures were intentionally changed to yield desired results and only one child of the twelve suffered from developmental regression, or autism, unlike the nine that were falsely diagnosed in the study (Coffin and Offit, 2003). Arguably the most troubling finding from Deer’s investigation into the MMR-autism study was Wakefield’s involvement with a group of British lawyers who were suing MMR vaccine manufacturing pharmaceutical companies.
...to grow and increase yearly, one can imagine the effect on society these rates already have, and can possibly have with continued growth. It will not be long before autism becomes the normal society. That is a concern will should all share as creatures of earth. All families that are faced with autism will find happiness with the life shared with an autistic individual. Sadly, these individuals face bullying, and social rejection. They deal with health care rejections, and limited services available into adulthood. A future unknown. Although these individuals are different, that doesn’t mean they are less. As humanity, we need to treat everyone as an equal part of this important reality we call existence. Autistic individuals are the quietest souls, but that may only be because we haven’t learned to pay attention. Autism speaks, so isn’t it time to listen (htt1)?
