In everyday life situations, distractions occur throughout the day. These distractions come in many forms; television, cell phones, internet searches and social media all distract people from what they have to do during the day. Anything that moves a person’s interest away from scheduled tasks reduces the productivity needed to remain complete goals or tasks. Some people have organic reasons such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, which causes the mind to work on several different issues at once, hence no one subject obtains the focus needed to complete the task. There for, any distractions become a major obstacle in the lives of people with disabilities. I have the disabilities ADHD and bipolar and struggle with many of the distractions …show more content…
Some the issues occur in a mild form and cause issues which are manageable. Time management also includes managing health related issues, as they are problematic to production. As long as the regimen of taking medication is adhered to, this issue can be moved quadrant three. The major problem with bipolar and the workplace is holding down viable employment for long periods of time (Everyday Health, 2015). Working one problem at a time and focusing that person’s problem to a resolution and then move to the next without carryover. The problem could be placed in quadrant three and can be considered as putting out multiple fires. Putting out many fires takes skill and talent in management, but should be considered temporary solutions to problems. Developing empathy is a skill needed to resolve workplace issues and with the accompaniment of patients, the problem can quickly come to a conclusion (Hocker & Wilmot,
Paul is managing a care home which has 20 clients and 16 permanent employees. The nature of the clients changes time to time. Generally, Paul has to manage carers who work with some very old clients who depend on carers to help them with their daily activities and others clients who manage their lives but need help with specific things such as medication. Every client offers his or her own challenge to the carers and home management. At the same time, every carer has his or her own qualities despite the fact that all carers have undergone the same sort of training. This poses different dimensions of problems and successes in the same setting, sometimes at the same time. While the same client can be very happy with the services he or she receives in the morning, she can be really angry with the services offered by another carer in the evening.
Creek (2009) states that a healthy person is able to perform their daily occupations effectively and is capable of responding accordingly to any changes in their activities. For adults with a learning disability it can be incredibly challenging to carry out their ADLs effectively or ev...
Throughout Rastafari: Roots and Ideology, Barry Chevannes traces the beginnings of the Rastafari movements and the movements that gave birth to Rastafarian ideology, through both historical perspectives and through the narratives of those people closely associated with these movements. He begins laying out the groundwork of the Rastafarian movement at the slave trade, which gave rise to the institutionalization of racism and the subordination of black people in the “New World.” This racism, and its lasting effects on the social, political, and economic positions of black people in Jamaica led to a realization of the need to create a life, or a belief system, that would actually serve black people and their needs.

The severe mood fluctuations of bipolar or manic-depressive disorders have been around since the 16-century and affect little more than 2% of the population in both sexes, all races, and all parts of the world (Harmon 3). Researchers think that the cause is genetic, but it is still unknown. The one fact of which we are painfully aware of is that bipolar disorder severely undermines its victims ability to obtain and maintain social and occupational success. Because the symptoms of bipolar disorder are so debilitation, it is crucial that we search for possible treatments and cures.
Assistive technology is often used by individuals with a learning disability. A learning disability “describes a neurobiological disorder in which a person’s brain works or is structured differently” (Lee1). A person’s abilities can be severely affected from a learning disability. They may listen differently, talk differently, write, spell, organize, and work with school subjects in a different way. Learning disabilities also affect people’s individual and personal lives to a great extent. According to the National Institutes of Health, one in seven children has a learning disability. The disability manifests itself when the child shows difficulty in reading, writing, spelling, and conversing with others. The added time they need to process information may make them seem less intelligent then others around them, but this is not the case. Individuals with learning disabilities are just as smart as anyone else; they just need to learn in a different way. The earlier a learning disability is noticed and detected, the earlier a child may be able to learn how to deal with or compensate for it (Lee 1). This is where assistive technology comes into play.
Growing up learning and speaking English has been something that was difficult for me at first but then came easy, but that was not the case for my mother. She spent her whole life speaking Spanish, so when she decided to take English learning classes it was challenging. However, she had me to help her throughout her struggle. I helped her complete her homework and assignments. We would also go to the library to check out easy level reading books to have her read to me. I would correct her English when it was wrong and do all I could to boost her confidence. It took me a while to understand and figure out what the best way to teach her was, but it was a fun experience for the both of us. Teaching her English was difficult because things that
As globalisation increases and markets become very competitive around the globe, companies are starting to focus constantly on innovation, creativity and risk-taking (De Lorenzo 2013, p. 219). This places much more pressure on employees to perform better and work longer hours trying to meet the expectations of employers and business objectives. Employees who suffer from Common Mental Health Disorders (CMHD) will experience more mental pressure as the workplace becomes competitive.
As a professional in today’s society, it is greatly important to be able to communicate effectively with other professionals, with clients, and with those that are encountered in daily living. In order to communicate in a proper manner, not only is talking and non-verbal communication, but a large aspect is the ability to listen. Listening is a vital task in order to build a relationship and find meaning in someone else’s words. In order to find this meaning one must follow the characteristics of active listening, face the challenges to listening, and reflect upon one’s own listening skills.
