Do you believe that attending college is necessary for a person to get a good job? A high school education is enough for a graduate to find a job. By attending college, you are only expanding on your education from high school. This isn’t necessary because many high school graduates have received good jobs. College is not always necessary for students because of student debt, no guarantee of workplace benefits, and the fact that succeeding without a college degree is possible. A college degree is no guarantee of workplace benefits. As an employee, a college graduate will not be treated any differently than a high school graduate. However, there are many high school graduates who have received well-paying jobs without a college diploma. A college degree does not completely guarantee that the graduate will be prepared for the real world. College also does not always prepare students for interviews, how to talk, or other necessary factors to get hired into a job. Thus, as the economy progresses over the years to come, college graduates will be better placed to find jobs that will offer a larger amount of pay. Therefore, earning a college degree will greatly enhance your marketability as a professional.
As the former president of Harvard University, Derek Bok wrote “The most obvious purpose of college education is to help students acquire information and knowledge by acquainting them with facts, theories, generalizations, principles, and the like. This purpose scarcely requires justification.” America needs educated citizens to help maintain the level of intelligence we have in society.
