Physical preparation is an essential part to the development of an athlete’s wellbeing. Athletes are encouraged to physically prepare themselves during training and before an event to reduce the likelihood of injury occurring. Appropriate physical preparations include, pre-screening, skill and technique, physical fitness and adequate warm ups and cool downs are key components of enhancing the wellbeing of an athlete.

Pre-screening involves assessing information of the athlete’s level of health before they begin their training program. This provides information about their physical capabilities, medical history and the athletes’ expectation and objectives of their training program. Through this information, the coach can understand the limitations of the athlete. Combining good technique during training when developing skill will not only advance their performance but also lessen the risk of injury. In order to prevent injury, it is critical that participants conduct as much preparation as possible to accurately improve the skills and techniques relevant to their sport. A common cause of injury is the repetition of the incorrect or poorly executed movements done due to poor skill and technique. It is essential that coaches understand the needs of the athlete and possess knowledge of how the body works and the correct processes for technical skills. An example is learning to swing a golf club. Poor body positioning can place stress on the back and cause further pain in the future. Therefore as an athlete’s skill and technique progresses, they will become more knowledgeable in the sport, which will reduce their risk of
