Asthma is such a common disease. For instance, a negative response to an emotional stress can cause an asthma attack (Mark 1007). Have you actually seen someone have an asthma attack? It is the scariest thing because you cannot do anything about it. They say that there are no cures for asthma, and they also claim that there is some natural therapies that may help to manage symptoms of asthma. Weather your asthma is completely manageable and only shows up from time to time, or if you only have to deal with it on a daily basis, either way you have probably gone through your fair share of prescription medications. These medications, though, are not only expensive, but sometimes they come with their own set of problems, which only add to the ones you are already having with your condition. If you are suffering from asthma, you should consider a natural cure for asthma instead of going the traditional medicinal route.
The most obvious symptom of asthma is the wheezing sound that comes from the lungs, but some people do not manifest this symptom and the only way they are aware that they have asthma is by undergoing a test at the doctor’s office. Some natural relaxation remedies that you should consider as an asthmatic are abdominal breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and biofeedback can help relieve stress (Mark 1019). There is more research that suggests that diet can plays a great role in alleviating asthma symptoms. A great example is omega-3 fatty acids which is found naturally in high-fat fish such as salmon, mackerel, or cod and it enables the body to make more products that help decrease inflammation (Mark 1010). Unfortunately, there is no direct evidence that this actually benefits those who have as...

...ou drink coffee every day, you will develop an insensitivity to its effects. Methylated xanthines are found in coffee, tea, and chocolate, and are diuretics as well as bronchodilators(Hackman 332).
Before making up your mind, it would be good if you conduct some research and judge for yourself. Despite these encouraging findings keep your doctor informed if you decided to try any one of them. Homeopathic and herbs for asthma treatments are also considered as being quite positive, and depending on the severity of the asthma itself in the person, herbal and homeopathic treatments can reduce or even eliminate the need for synthetic drugs, and even inhalers, and they can also safely be used to complement that of the more conventional treatments of asthma (Hackman 330). Take a great caution when taking herbal supplements. These herbs could interact with other drugs.
Aims: To implement a multi-pronged strategy that (1) educates parents, students, and school staff about asthma and its management, (2) establishes comprehensive asthma screening programs, (3) develops affordable and long-term management strategies for students with asthma, and (4) increases the rigor of school inspections with regards to air quality and other common asthma triggers.
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. It is a reversible airway obstruction, occurring 8 to 10% of the population worldwide. According to a study in 2005, asthma affects over 15 million Americans, with more than 2 million annual emergency room visits. Asthma patients have a hyper-responsiveness in their airways and generally and increase in their airway smooth muscle cell mass. This hyperplasia is due to the normal response to the injury and repair to the airway caused by exacerbations. The main choice of therapy for asthma patients is β2- adrenergic agonists. Racemic albuterol has been the drug of choice for a short acting bronchodilator for a long time, but since the development of levalbuterol, there is the question of which drug is a better choice for therapy. Efficacy and cost of treatment must both be taken into consideration in each study of these therapies to determine which is best for the treatment of asthma.
Caffeine is a mild stimulant that occurs naturally in at least 63 plant species. Caffeine can be found in the leaves, stems, seeds, and roots of these various plants. Caffeine is part of the methylxanthine family. It consists of a xanthine molecule with three methyl groups attached to it. Caffeine can be found in many products like sodas, tea, and coffee, but it also occurs in several other products such as prescription medications, diuretics, and pain relievers. Caffeine’s widespread use and popularity have caused many people to view the substance as an addictive drug. Thus making caffeine the most inexpensive and readily available drug known to man. Then on the other hand there are people who view caffeine as a helpful stimulant that increases the individual’s concentration and awareness as well as many other physical traits. The important thing to remember is that caffeine’s affects vary based on the person, the amount ingested, the frequency of consumption, and individual metabolism. Imagine a young child competing with his or her fellow classmates during recess and immediately losing the ability to breathe normally. He or she stops in the middle of the competition and falls to the ground while holding his or her chest trying to find air. When you are young, being able to keep up with your peers during recess and sporting events is very important, however, having asthma restricts this. Asthma has a significant impact on childhood development and the diagnosis of asthma for children 18 years and younger has dramatically increased over the years. Asthma is known as a “chronic inflammation of the small and large airways” with “evident bronchial hyper-responsiveness, airflow obstruction, and in some patients, sub-basement fibrosis and over-secretion of mucus” (Toole, 2013). The constant recreation of the lung walls can even occur in young children and “lead to permanent lung damages and reduced lung function” (Toole, 2013). While one of the factors is genetics, many of the following can be prevented or managed. Obesity, exposure to secondhand smoke, and hospitalization with pneumonia in the early years of life have all been suggested to increase children’s risk of developing asthma.
Asthma is a condition of the bronchial tubes characterized by episodes of constriction and increased mucous production. A person with asthma has bronchial tubes that are super sensitive to various stimuli, or triggers, that can produce asthma symptom. In other words, asthmatics have special sensitivity that causes their lung tissue to react far more than is should to various stimulating factors or triggers. For this reason, people with asthma are said to have "twitchy airways."Some symptoms that people with asthma commonly experience are chest tightenings, difficulty inhaling and exhaling, wheezing, production of large amounts of mucous in their windpipes and coughing.Coughing can be frequent or intermittent, and can be loose-reflecting extra mucous secretion in the airways or dry and deep-reflecting tight bronchospasms. Not all these symptoms occur in every case of asthma.Sometimes people may have coughing without and symptoms for months or even years before it's realized that they are asthmatic. Interestingly enough, asthma symptoms are most severe at night, while we're lying down our airways narrow as a result of gravity changes. Also our lungs do not clear secretions as well at night, which leads to mucous retention, and that can increase the obstruction to air flow.
Secondly, severe asthma can be life-threatening. Suffering from asthma can be frightening to experience and people often feel scared and anxious. The fear and scare can also lead to breathlessness and so mak...
Alternative medicines that focus on mindfulness and holistic practices have shown to be increasingly popular among people. Approximately one-third of patients, adults and children, use these alternative medicines, with an even higher rate, between 60 and 84 percent, when treating life-long diseases like ADHD, asthma, and cancer (Vlieger, 2007). There are a variety of mindfulness based therapies that are used to improve psychological and physical health outcomes, in...
When people hear the word asthma, the first thing that comes to mind is a nerd wheezing and taking an inhaler almost every five minutes, but that is not the case for everyone who is diagnosed with this disease. A person with asthma will often wheeze, become breathless, experience tightness in the chest, and cough at night or early in the morning. Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition and a disease marked by spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, caused by chronic inflammation within the breathing passages. This may...
In conclusion, asthma can be cured, because if the patient takes medicine daily and follow the Asthma Action Plan. He/she will have drastically decreased chance of receiving an asthma attack. Even though most patients who suffered asthma are long-term, controlling the inflammation through medicines can allow them to be safe from asthma, and if we can control asthma, it is as good as being cured. Wherefore, the hypothesis that asthma can be cured is valid.
Most of you may not think of asthma as a killer disease, yet more that 5,000 Americans die of asthma each year. According to the Mayo Clinic web page, asthma also accounts for more that 400,000 hospital discharges annually. As the number of people with asthma increases, the more likely you are to come in contact with a person who has the disease. As far as I can remember, I have had asthma my whole life. My mother and one of my sisters also have asthma, so I have a first hand experience with it. This morning, I will discuss some interesting facts about asthma, I will specifically focus on what it is, warning signs, symptoms, causes, and the treatments that are used.
Co-existing psychological problems are particularly present in those with decreased control and poor adherence (Thomasa, Brutonb, Moffattc, & Clelandd, 2011). There are consistent evidence which suggests that health status relating asthma is impaired when anxiety is present (Cluley & Cochrane, 2001; Goldney, Ruffin, Fisher, & Wilson, 2003; Lavoie et al., 2006). A Canadian study found that the worst management of symptoms of asthma occurred in the patients with anxiety and depression. When shown in a regression model 29 % of the variance in asthma control questionnaire score was accounted by the presence of psychiatric co-morbidity (Lavoie et al., 2006). Some symptoms such as breathlessness is perceived to be more intense in patients with co-morbid anxiety even though the degree of bronchoconstriction is similar (Martínez-Moragón, Perpiñá, Belloch, de Diego, & Martínez-Francés, 2003). Therefore it can be concluded that psychological co-morbidity collates with worsening of asthma symptoms. It is normal for an individual with asthma to be anxious however if the severity is increased, the patient tends to adopt inappropriate behaviors such as poor self-management skills, poor relationships with clinicians, poor adherence to controlled therapy and indulgence in risk behaviors such as smoking and discontinuation of medications as prescribed (Bender, 2006). Anxiety causes hyperventilation, this can cause asthma like symptoms and in turn act as a trigger for asthma (Hibbert & Pilsbury, 1988). Psychological factors relating to asthma can influence biological effects on the function of the immunological, hormonal and autonomic systems contributing to the severity of asthma (Thomas & Griffiths, 2005). The short term goal is for the patient to demonstrate a reduction of anxiety
Now, I’m not bashing caffeine, I still love having coffee with a girlfriend or the occasional glass of soda, but I don’t like being controlled by it. A study, by the University of Vermont, explores the similarities of caffeine addiction vs. similarities to actual drug addiction. The study found, “some coffee drinkers exhibit three signs of caffeine addiction: They seek out the drink for caffeine 's stimulating and pleasing effects; they experience withdrawal symptoms such as drowsiness, fatigue and headaches; and they report adverse effects of caffeine consumption such as stomachaches, earaches, trembling and profuse sweating.” Now coffee is not the equivalent to a hardcore drug, and the people they were testing drank on average three to seven cups of coffee a day. But when you allow something to go as far as taking over your body enough to give you withdrawal symptoms, I think precautions are worth
Even though there is no cure for asthma, there are two main types of medication used for the treatment of it. The first is long term medication that aids in decreasing the inflammation of a person’s airways and also serves as a preventative measure for symptoms and asthma attacks. These medicines are usually anti-inflammatory drugs that are taken daily to reduce future symptoms, but do not act as a quick fix...
Coffee is the first thing that people associate with instant energy on a groggy morning. “In the U.S., coffee is king of beverages” (Reinke) Research has been done that has named coffee as an addiction to the people who consume large quantities of it. Coffee was named the top source of antioxidants. This is partly because of the amount consumed each day. Some of the antioxidants that coffee has are quinines and chlorogenic acid. It also contains trigonelline, an antibacterial compound. This is where coffee acquires its delicious aroma. Now let’s step back for a minute and just think about how much caffeine people consume. In an 8oz cup of coffee it has about 85 milligrams of caffeine. This is about double the amount that tea contains. Studies have shown that caffeine stimulates the brain and nervous system. This is where you get that energized feeling. After about the third cup, knees start to bounce, pens are clicking and people start running laps around the office. Caffeine can become addicting if you drink too much. Coffee can become that addictive habit people are unable to shake.
The Herbal Medicine is actually cheaper than pharmacy medicine prescribed by doctors. “Herbal medicines are popular. They are extensively used in the developing world, where in many places they offer a more widely available and more affordable alternative to pharmaceutical drugs ” (Aschwanden 1). Also modern medicine and Medicare can be not available for a lot of people. Some countries are poor and do not have the correct and best medication and emergency health care for people. “Due to the hilly terrain in Nepal, the poor socioeconomic status, the high cost of modern medicines and non-availability of doctors in rural areas, difficulties arise in accessing modern healthcare ” (Shankar 1). It might be hard to find and get herbal medicine and it depends on where you live. Different plants grow in different places and the distribution of herbs is sometimes not so great depending on which herb you need. Most western medicine is well known and can be more accessible but not better. Better things are hard to find. “Nevertheless, herbal medicines for asthma hold out a cheerful prospect, which will eventually help to reduce the morbidity and mortality and increase the control levels of asthma worldwide” (Fang 1). The medicine helps, safe to use and more natural and non toxic reducing the symptoms and stress. Maybe it might be a struggle to take the time and do some therapies but its worth it, and healing always needs
