After reading the article, ‘Positive Emotions in Early Life and Longevity: Findings from the Nun Study,’ I was able to identify the purpose, the participants used, the research design, the procedure, the findings, the implications, the strengths, and, of course, the weaknesses within this particular study.
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to demonstrate that there are certain emotional responses, whether it’s positive, negative, or even neutral affect, that effect our bodily processes and, ultimately, our long term health. These emotional responses can either have a beneficial or a destructive effect on our physiology. The Nun Study sought to investigate the possible link between written emotional communications to lifespan longevity. The researchers, Danner, Snowden, & Friesen, hypothesized that happier people, individuals with a higher positive affect, will live longer than unhappy people, individuals with a higher negative or a neutral affect.
Participants Used
The participants that were used within this study were one hundred and eighty nuns. These nuns were sisters of the Catholic Church. All of the participants in this study …show more content…

This study tells us something special about longevity in relation to positive emotion and how it can have an either beneficial or a destructive effect down the line. We should all be paying attention to the results of the Nun Study because it offers us information that isn’t necessarily common knowledge for most people. We should all receive these results and realize just how important it is to understand Positive Psychology, as a whole. The Nun Study shows us just how imperative it is to try to be as genuinely positive as you can be, especially in your younger years, because it will, most definitely, catch up with you later
