The ceremonies marking the opening and closing of Olympics games to be held in Brazil in 2016 will be conducted at the Maracana stadium. The final football match in the Olympic Games will also be held in this stadium. Initially after its construction in 1950, the Maracana stadium had a reputation of being the biggest stadium globally. Currently, the stadium is still held in high regards due to its design made up of elliptical framework that is nearly circular in shape. Maracana stadium is has two big rings tiers surrounding the playing field. In the 1950, the stadium was famous for being the most luxurious, in addition to its stringent security and functionality. The stadium has two big external flights that link the upper tiers with parks in the surrounding areas. This enables fast evacuation in case there is an emergency in the stadium. The stadium underwent major renovation in 1990s, which reduced its initial capacity that was two hundred thousand people. The stadium stands at a maximum height of twenty four meters (Thomas 2).
Maracana is located near major highways in Rio de Janerio, the stadium is also adjacent to the University de Rio de Janerio in the east. To the north the stadium is adjacent to a zoological garden. Metro stations and major hotels in Brazil are found within a radius of five miles from the stadium. All the streets in the vicinity of the stadium have one access road. Maracana has no roof covering its top i.e. it is an open air stadium. The stadium is being renovated to enable it accommodate eighty five thousand people by the time the Olympics will be held. The renovation will also entail expanding the roof of the stadium to enable the covering of all seats within the stadium, as opposed to the current s...

Risk management is the process of identifying, giving priority, and assessing risks. Risk management decisions should focus on rational utilization of the available resources in order to control, minimize and monitor the impacts of risks. In designing security systems to prevent potential risks at the Maracana, the party involved should ensure that the available resources are fully utilized. These resources should be used to develop risk management systems that will ensure control, monitoring, and minimization of potential risks.

According to Pritchard (2015), risks should be assessed from time to time to check if there are any untreated risks in the system and proper control measures has to be applied to reduce or eliminate the risk. Roles and Responsibilities Senior Management: Ultimate responsibility for ensuring appropriate risk management processes are applied rests with the senior management. The senior management personnel like the CEO, CFO CTO and CCO should be involved in the risk management team. This will help in faster decision making and reduce delays in getting necessary clearances from senior management in treating the potential or ongoing risks. Project Manager:

The multi-purpose arena that I have chosen to evaluate is Boston University’s Agganis Arena. This arena is considered to be the next generation of Boston sports and entertainment by incorporating the latest multimedia technologies and providing the finest possible sight lines and views of the action. The arena is located within Boston University's new $225 million John Hancock Student Village, a 10-acre hub of activity designed to be the thriving center of student life and athletics, Agganis Arena is a state-of-the-art, multipurpose sports and entertainment center scheduled to open in January 2005. A 290,000-square-foot premier venue with 6,300 seats for hockey and ice shows, the Arena is expandable to over 7,200 seats for concerts, sporting events, and family shows.
Today’s sports arenas and the Roman Colosseum have many similarities. One of the many similarities are the retractable roofs. Retractable roofs are very common in football stadiums, outdoor tennis courts, and baseball stadiums. Retractable roofs now allow a schedule event go on no matter the weather. Other similarities are the ticket and gate number assignments, and the oval/ circular shaped arenas.
Brazil is not only one of the fastest growing economic markets in the world but it also has a very rich history of sport. Soccer has dominated the country as the most popular sport by a long shot. So much so that many businesses shut down operations hours before national matches in order for their employees to prepare for their team’s game(Brazil.org). Other sports that are popular in Brazil are martial arts, footvolley (a combination of soccer and volleyball), tennis, basketball, motorsport, volleyball, and rugby. Brazilians are hungry for sports. In the summer of 2014, the FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil, the second time ever hosting the tournament.
The proposed location in Cobb County lies between Interstate 75 and Interstate 285 and will provide multiple access points to the stadium. There are numerous highways and side roads that will alleviate traffic congestion before and after game time. The proposed track of land for the new stadium is approximately 60 acres. However, the stadium will only occupy approximately 15 acres. The remaining 45 acres will be utilized for parking and mixed-use development. The site will accommodate approximately 6,000 parking spaces and the mixed-use development will consists of shops, restaurants, bars, residences, offices, and hotels. The 60 acre complex is designed to keep the sports fan entertained for the entire day and not just for the game only. If additional parking is needed, there are approximately 30,000 parking spaces within close proximity to the proposed stadium location that will have circulator shuttle access.
The Rogers Centre, originally named SkyDome, is located in downtown Toronto near Lake Ontario. Situated at the base of the CN Tower, the visually captivating dome stands 31 stories tall and covers 11.5 acres. (CITE 1) Aside from its physical dominance, the dome is an architecturally interesting and significant structure because it was the world’s first stadium with a fully retractable roof. Furthermore, the multi-purpose building is very important to the city of Toronto because the venue has accommodated over 50 million people attending thousands of events since it opened just less than 25 years ago in June of 1989.
Brazil is unarguably, to an extent, an extremely fast-growing economy. The country has overcome boom after bust in the economy and has now made it into the vision of other first world countries as a nation that is no longer “developing.” Though Brazil has overcome hyperinflation, military leaders, slavery, and many more issues in the past few centuries, the country is becoming more and more known for its economy and that the country is no longer exclusively just agricultural. This economy has given the world, and the International Olympic Committee, hope in the future of the country, and has allowed the IOC to award the 2016 Olympics to the city of Rio de Janeiro. Though the economy may prosper after the Olympics, the Brazilian government has other issues at hand to deal with that should have been prioritized before wanting to host the Olympics. Although there are many cases for the country to grow economically from hosting the Olympics, the government of Brazil should have taken care of many issues, such as the poor distribution of wealth, education systems, and other areas of infrastructure, before looking to host the Olympics, and these issues will hurt the country long after the Games are over.
In Major League Baseball, stadiums can affect the game dramatically by the size and by the way the dirt is laid out and how the weather is as well. The baseball teams and players can be affected by this in their major life physically and mentally. Major League Baseball is a prominent organization in our daily life. The game is very important for most people. The game is a lifestyle to people as well. Baseball has changed over the years. For instance, Pete Palmer states, “The way baseball is playing right now is completely different from the past” (Palmer, summary, 2014). A very helping part of baseball are baseball stadiums. For example, ballparks of america says, “... ballparks are amazing, they help us play” (ballparks of america, summary,
Although nowadays it has lost much of its previous magnificence the Colosseum still makes people feel its glory so we can imagine how it should have felt like standing in front of it back then when it was operating. Being the largest buildings the Roman Empire ever built2 the Colosseum was in no doubt constructed to show people how great the power of the empire was. Designed to host the unique gladiator shows of its time, the Colosseum is still marked with the countless deaths it has seen, thus representing the ruthlessness of the Ancient Roman Empire. Combining tunnels, arches, vaults and columns in a sophisticated network, the building is an engineering masterpiece and an exquisite example of the organizational skills of the Romans. The Roman concrete is a building material which was very common for Roman architecture and represents the advance building techniques used by the Romans. The Colosseum along with buildings like the Pantheon in Rome is a bright example of the usage of Roman concrete making it a very distinctive building for the period of Ancient Roman architecture. The way in which seating is organized to provide easy access for visitors, clear view towards the arena and in the same time keep different classes of spectators separated was so precisely designed that it keeps inspiring stadium engineers until nowadays. Furthermore the Colosseum was an esthetic masterpiece being beautifully decorated which further strengthened its impact on people. Apart from its magnificence and glory an intriguing thing about the building is how it changed through the years and how it served its visitors and their changing interests. The fact that people associate the Colosseum with eternity and take it as something inseparable from the city of Rome (known as the everlasting city) is partly due to the fact that the building always lived its
If Las Vegas continues to make serious strides in bringing the Raiders, they will need to build a new 65,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof to insure that the weather will not hinder the games/events. This stadium will be shared with the UNLV Rebels’ football team and may host concerts and other special events, though there are numerous arena-sized venues already located on The Strip. Still, the exact location of the stadium is yet to be determined. About nine sites have already been proposed. How long it would take to build the stadium is still unknown.

McFarlane & Freudmann (2013) state two types of infrastructure, underground infrastructure not visible to guest and visible infrastructure that visitors will see. Both are important to a mega event but both require different approaches. The legacy of an event is the key to infrastructure planning, if as mentioned if governments have clear goals for the long term, mega event can be the catalyst for bettering there nations. As stated Brazil and the city of Rio has struggled with poverty, crime and unemployment for a decade. The nation has used the Olympics’ as a way to improve infrastructure and force change. The critical success of a mega event depends on the host nation’s delivery these essential services. Muiller (2016) article “The Mega-Event Syndrome” has a more critical view on past mega events then McFarlane and Freudmann (2013). One such point Muiller (2013) makes is the Athens Olympics, in which Greece lost 3.4% of their gross domestic product the year flowing and left the nation with a legacy of unused facilities and environmental damage. Muiller (2013) outline symptoms to what he calls “Mega Event Syndrome” one of such is the uneven distribution of physical infrastructure and a misallocation of resource in local communities which influence the next point on sociocultural success factors.
