Nicole Hendricks USP 107 Final IDs Professor James Ingram. “Empire Strikes Back” Mayors Source: Lecture 18 Meaning: An “Empire Strikes Back” mayor refers to the white republican mayor that often times comes into office following a minority mayor. In cases such as the “Empire Strikes Back” mayor, the minority mayor has failed to hold forth to the issues that he intended to solve upon being elected. The minority mayor was elected in order to improve racial tensions. Yet, the minority mayor must somewhat “dilute” his stance in order to appeal to multiple ethnicities, rather than just his.

Through studying Shakespeare’s and Cinthio’s Othello, I explored the concept of ‘The Moor’. ‘The Moor’ is a disrespectful and racist term , often used by white Europeans referring to arabs and blacks, and people of other races with relatively dark skin, such as Othello. During Shakespeare’s time, blacks are considered to be outsiders and are inferior to white people. In Cinthio’s work, it stated that moors are hot-headed as evident in this quote ‘you moors are of so hot a nature that every little trifle moves you to anger and revenge’ which is evident that moors are hot-headed. In scene 1 of the play, Iago told Desdemona father that his daughter was robbed by a thief, Iago uses metaphor to describes Othello as a “black ram”. Desdemona’s father was shocked that his daughter will fall in love with a black man. He believed that Othello must have use some magic to make his daughter fall in love with him; as there is social class difference at that time and it is unimaginable that a white woman will love a black men.
Grand Theft Auto is one of the most notorious franchises in the entire video game industry. There are plenty of video games on shelf with violence, sex and drugs but GTA has one aspect that few other games achieve: it’s just so darn fun.
...he exciting fact and our feeling of the same changes as they occur is the emotion.”
... Grand Theft Auto since my early teens, and games like the original Doom and Duke Nukem back when I was real small, and don?t consider myself influenced by them. I look at games as more of a way to pass time and have fun with what they offer. I think that having people kill simulated people with a controller is far better than having them out on the streets aiming a gun at bystanders. If people do not have the logic to comprehend the right or wrong of situations in games, then I think it says more about the quality of person, not the content of the game.
The tragedy of Othello, written by William Shakespeare, presents the main character Othello, as a respectable, honorable, and dignified man, but because of his insecurities and good nature, he is easily taken advantage of and manipulated by his peers and alleged friends. The dynamic of Othello’s character significantly changes throughout the play. The contrast is most pronounced from the beginning of the play to its conclusion, switching from being calm and peaceful to acts of uncontrolled venomous rage. Othello’s motivation in the play appears to be his love and concern for his wife Desdemona, which ironically, ends up being his downfall in the end.
The European Renaissance forever changed the life of the contemporary individual. Explosive advancements in education, technology, and trade broadened geographic and mental horizons; however, in England these developments were paired with population crises of poverty and unemployment. In addition, the increased interaction with foreign cultures fomented by various commercial and diplomatic engagements gave rise to apprehension in English sensibility. Eventually, Christian England would attempt to reshape these ‘strangers’ in their image and modern racial tensions sprung forth. Recursion of the trope of race, under the guise of blackness, heathenry, or even femininity occurs extensively in literary tradition, and especially within Shakespeare’s oeuvre. “There exists in all literature an archetypal figure who escapes both poles of the classic definition – appearing sometimes as hero, sometimes as villain, sometimes as clown…[he] has been named variously the ‘shadow,’ the ‘other,’ the ‘alien,’ the ‘outsider,’ the ‘stranger.’” It is with this borderline figure, mired in ambiguity, that this investigation is concerned: primarily with the stranger as the Moor in Othello, the Welsh in Henry IV, Part 1, and the woman in both.
Ridley Scott is considered one of the greatest directors of Hollywood, and one of his masterpieces is Blade Runner, released in 1982. The movie is largely based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? A novel penned by Phillp K. Dick in 1968. This novel and the movie depict a future when human like robots work in outer worlds. And when they defy the orders or do not work properly they are sent back on earth to be destroyed by trained human beings known as “Blade Runners”. Apart from futuristic story and lavish sets and very strange costumes, we find best performances of the actors in this wonder full movies.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an Action role-playing game which is a common genre in the game industry. BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins for example, is an Action role-playing game as well. While Dragon Age, and Skyrim are some of my top favorite games, there are quite a few games that also share the Action role-playing genre. For example, all of the following games are considered “Action Role-Playing Games”: Dead Island, Fable, Dark Souls and the Diablo series. Although these games share the same genre they approach it from different perspectives, giving each game a unique and wondrous feel. Games like Diablo III for example, may have a unique camera perspective, but still deliver a great role playing experience with loads of action throughout. Fable and Dark S...
The nerves are raging, mainly in his stomach as the butterflies flutter till no end. "Is everything ok? Will everything go as planned?" He couldn't stop thinking about what might happen. Images were racing wild as he thought about his teammates going to battle without him. He couldn't comprehend why he had to let them handle it on their own. He has played with them since they were in eighth grade, and when they need him the most, all he can do is sit and cheer. He hates this feeling of helplessness, but at the same time he knows he has to do what little he can do, well.
I believe this to start off with because it is a fairly violent game. It is too violent for anyone younger than 18. It has pretty intense violence and gore which is not something children should be watching or even controlling themselves. Children should not be allowed to play games that have so much gore in them. In BioShock infinite starts out with a weapon called a Skyhook and it literally has spinning blades that the main character uses to destroy enemy’s faces with. This is too violent for young children who should not have or be able to view violence at this young age. I think its fine for people over 18 though because they probable should be showed violence and gore to prepare them for the real world. There is violence and gore in the real world so why shouldn’t adults be allowed to view such things because it just makes it all the more real. I think it more for men than women because women don’t necessarily like gore and violence as much as a man most likely would because women are more caring than a man is. Men just want to shoot things and that’s a lot of what a lot of BioShock is.
Violent video games have become more realistic every year. Children spend about 40 hours seated in front of a screen killing cartoon characters. It has been debated whether minors under the age of 18 should play violent video games that contain physical harm, killing, and sexual assault. In the contrary, people say video games increases the capacity of learning of children, but violent video games cause great damages. Although there are an increase learning skills playing video games, violent video games should be prohibited to minors because it changes an individual behavior, physical, and brain.
First off, ratings on games were created for multiple reasons. Ratings, such as EC (early childhood, young children), E (everyone), E10+ (10 years old and up), T (teen, 13 years old and up), M (mature, 17 years and up), and A (adult, 18 years and up) (http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp), are put on games depending on their content and gameplay to inform the player or the players’ parents about the game. Young children, according to the scale, should not be playing games rated over E10+. Games that are rated for kids obviously aren’t going to be as crude and will send out better messages for the child to learn, teaching the minor how to be a better person and about their personality. If a kid, say 10 years old, is playing Call of Duty, he doesn’t understand that what he is learning from this game is not a good one and wil...
Have you ever wondered why people have certain reactions? I chose chapter eight on emotions for my reflection paper because emotions are something that everyone has and feels, yet cannot always explain or react to in the way you would expect. Personally, I have never been great at responding to emotions in a way that I would not regret in the future. Thus, naturally being drawn to this chapter as a way to expand my knowledge on how to react to things more positively. I also wanted to learn why I feel a certain way after events that would not affect most people and be reassured about my feelings. Opposite to that, it is nice to see that, while not always productive, others have the same reaction habits. Overall, emotions are a complicated
