Ashanti’s Inappropriate Interactions with peers, in regards to her taking video images and pictures were not exhibited during my observations. It was shared during the Interviews, that Ashanti previously had taken pictures of another student and posted it on the internet. It would be hard to ascertain the function of this behavior since these behaviors were not exhibited during the in-school observations.
Ashanti’s Defiance behaviors appear to be derived from her frustration with completing assignments or activities that are difficult or those that are less preferred. I did have the opportunity to observe her defiance behavior during English class when her teacher needed to give her several prompts to get started on the assignment, which she eventually did not complete. When she was asks to complete the assignment at one point she adamantly stated, “I am not doing that work”. Although, she was encouraged and given prompts it was obvious that she was not interested in completing the assignment nor adhering to the teacher’s

Her classroom disruptions were once again observed during her English class, as she used a loud voice tone, taking “selfie” pictures on her phone, continually talking with her classmate, yelling out, and getting out of her seat. As she yells out a response to the teacher, it was obvious that she wanted him to come over to address her, as well as she gained attention from the female classmates sitting near her. Ashanti needs to learn how to access the attention from her teacher by raising her hand or asking for help rather than exhibiting inappropriate behaviors. During math class, whenever she wanted the teacher to come over to help her she would put her head down, or get on her phone. Assata Shakur realized early on the racial inequalities of African Americans and other minority groups while growing up in the segregated South and later during her time spent up North. It would be those earliest experiences to influence her joining the Black Panther Party, and later the Black Liberation Army. During 1973-1979 in the United States she would be accused of numerous criminal acts including attempted armed robbery, bank robberies, kidnapping, attempted murder: first and second degree. Most cases were dismissed, but it would be the happenings of May 2, 1973 in which Assata is found guilty for that would shape her decisions to flee the country and regain her freedom; Examined here is her life during the trail, discrimination in the law enforcement and her impact on black culture.
On February 7th during Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé took the field during the halftime show and shocked the world. She performed her new song “Formation”, which addressed all the criticism she received throughout her career, praised her African features, and paid tribute to Black History Month symbolizing The Black Panthers, Malcolm X, and Black Lives Matter Movement. This shocked everyone because they never thought out of all people Beyoncé would perform such a “racist” song. This performance received a lot of negative feedback which caused people to protest the NFL headquarters and say that she is promoting violent attacks against the police. As it opens with imagery reminiscent of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, an event that devastated the black communities in the areas affected. The delayed assistance in New Orleans by the U.S. government stirred some controversy that led many to question how much America really cares about its black communities. Nonetheless, Beyoncé’s video is full of imagery that is associated with black culture, including historical references to black communities in the south. But what is really important about “Formation” are the lyrics. With lyrics like “My daddy Alabama, Momma Louisiana, You mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas Bama” and “I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros, I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils,” Beyoncé is undoubtedly declaring her pride for her blackness as well as defending her child Blue Ivy who has always been scrutinized for the way her hair looked. Thus, this song is obviously geared toward the Black community which is obvious due to the lyrics and the imagery in the music video. To put it plainly, this song is a proclamation of Black pride and shouldn’t be thought of in any other way. However, after performing it at the Super Bowl people of other ethnicities became aware of the song and became offended by her performance as well as the lyrics. Before finding out about her biological parents, Asha acts very immaturely and inconsiderately. The first example portraying Asha's unsophisticated behaviour takes place while Asha has a disagreement with her parents because of her poor grades. After her mother offers to helps, she replies, “'I don't need a tutor, and I definitely don't want your help,' Asha says choosing her words to sting her mother'” (Gowda, 150). Here, Asha is deliberately trying to hurt her mother's feelings and is acting very inconsiderately. Also, the fact that she is yelling at her mother, even though her mother is only offering to help, showcases her immaturity.
Williams targets rap music, the “public airwaves”, and the mass who listens and watches. To narrow the public, she targets mostly male African Americans. Williams paraphrases Isiah Thomas on how it is offensive for a white man to call black women a demeaning name but it was okay for a black man to do so. Taking into consideration Isiah’s comment, using profanity against women, he understands using such a word to name women is unacceptable. Although he has not fully developed the idea that it is unacceptable no matter who says it but the thought was there. In an interview of sorts with the comment Isiah Thomas made, it can be reasoned that calling a person by an offensive name if it is “within the family” it is okay. For example, it is normal for an older sibling to pick or tease on the little sibling, however, when an “outsider” does the same action the older sibling will become defendant of the little one. The interviewer asks Thomas “a male calling a woman a b---- you find to be offensive?” to which he responds, “most definitely, black or white, but a white male calling a black female is highly offensive”. John, a 15 year old male, is an 8th grade student attending a local middle school. John is a transfer student from another state and he been placed into an inclusion classroom because he has been identified as a student with a disability and requires an IEP. Lately, John has been verbally and physically disruptive during math class. Some of the disruptive behaviors John often exhibit in the classroom include making loud noises and jokes during instruction, calling his peers names, physically touching his peers, and grabbing group materials. John’s teacher collected data and learned that his verbal disruptive behavior occurs 4-8 times during each sixty minute class meeting, and his physical group disruptions occur 75% of the time he works with a group. After meeting with John’s other teachers, his math teacher learned that his disruptive behavior is only present during math class. According to John’s math test scores on his IEP, his math instructor also learned that math is a challenging subject for John and he is significantly below grade level. Both John’s math teacher and his IEP team reached an agreement that they would like to decrease the number of times John disrupts instruction and eventually eliminate the disruptive behavior. The replacement behavior for John is to remain focused and on task during math instruction and assigned activities without triggering any disruptions (i.e., distracting loud noises or jokes causing the class to go into a laughing uproar, physical contact with peers, name calling, or grabbing his peers’ materials). Memory is an important and active system that receives information. Memory is made up of three different stages sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory. According to the power point presentation, sensory memory refers to short storage of memory that allows an individual to process information as it occurs. Short term memory refers to memory that is only available for a limited time. It is information that is held for seconds or sometimes even minutes. Long term memory refers to memory that is stored for a long period of time and it has an unlimited capacity with the ability to hold as much information as possible. The teacher does make sure the children are capable in saying vocabulary words correctly. Most of the students learn from her by imitating the way she moves her lips, when saying a word. The student seems to be doing very well in the classroom, by always interacting in the lesson, and actually paying attention on what the teacher is saying. The student is receiving an appropriate education in the classroom, in her appropriate grade level. I just feel that the student would be more engage, if they can interact with their classmates more. The work in the classroom should be less worksheets, more active involvement, like activities on the smart board or group
When I walked into the school, I was greeted by the receptionist who kindly showed me where to sign in and then directed me to the teacher I would be observing for the day. The staff was dressed very appropriate for the day and on Friday they were able to wear pink because it was October. Although I did not see much interaction with factuality with each other, I was able to witness when the teachers of a certain grade would come to pick up their students. I saw how the teachers interacted with Mrs. Lee and they were very respectful. The student’s behavior varied from class to class. Most of the classes were well behaved with only a few students causing disruption. Mrs. Lee had warned me that the kindergarten class is normally noisier than other classes, but to her surprise the students were very quiet and did their work independently with no interruptions. Mrs. Lee did a wonderful job at keeping the students disciplined within the classroom. She would give positive re-enforcement and correct students when they would do something incorrectly. She worked really well with the students and they students responded in a respectful manner to Mrs.
In today’s world, celebrities are often misunderstood, especially singer/songwriter Robin Rihanna Fenty, referred to as Rihanna. Rihanna’s sexual behaviors in her videos have been talked about in negative ways for some time now, but what [eople do not understand is that it is all for fame. Celebrities will do anything to keep their career going strong. If one really took the time out to take a deep look at Rihanna, they will notice how humble she really is. After going through the abusive relationship with Chris Brown, Rihanna has struggled with gaining that strong confidence with who she is. Her critics believe that she is still trying to discover herself and figure out who she really is as a person. Rihanna is often given two choices, to do what she is being asked to do, or throw her career out the window. She either gives the crowd the sexual acts they want or let her career die down. In the song “S&M,” Rihanna was really exposing herself to the crowd, as well as “Good Girl, Gone Bad.” She is basically telling the crowd that this is the person she is, but is it really? For my original piece I will be creating a journal, expressing the feelings Rihanna felt as she overcomes her struggles. There is a seemingly shy or introverted girl in an eighth grade class that has been having some various difficulties in navigating her education. She does not participate much, and does everything in her power to avoid drawing attention to herself or being noticed in class. She also does not divulge much personal information to the teacher. In addition to all of this, she has been somewhat ignored in class, both by the teacher and by the students. Furthermore, she seems to have problems at home. Her parents have strong, dominant personalities and have argued with school leadership about their daughter. This is her second stepmother, and she does not get to spend much time with her biological mother. Finally, she has also been diagnosed with ADD.
Classroom management is one of the most essential skills to becoming an effective classroom teacher. Teachers who possess the ability to manage their classroom are able to create an environment where learning is the focus (Burden & Cooper, 2004). Although teachers may be well prepared and skilled with classroom management, at some point in time they will encounter a student or students whose behavior hovers authority and the functioning of the class. There is no simple way to deal with these difficult situations, but there are strategies to help. The first step is to identify the purpose of the behavior. A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), is a systematic set of strategies that are used to determine the underlying function or purpose of a behavior so that an effective intervention plan can be developed (NPDC, 2014).
