I have recently read a book, Artemis Fowl, by Eion Colfer that I want to share with your book club. Artemis Fowl is a book that transports you to a whole new world, a world filled with fantasy and excitement. This book was published in Ireland by The Viking Press on April 26, 2001. This book’s main character is the 12 year old child genius, Artemis Fowl II, Artemis is very observant as it is made clear in the first chapter as he recognizes that a man is lying through his first meeting, in which his client comes to meet him in a waiter disguise but this cannot fool Artemis since it was quite clear to him that a waiter doesn’t have polished nails. Artemis caught his lie almost immediately, this client had made a deal with him to show him a location …show more content…
of a fairy in exchange for money. This fairy would lead to him to the gold he wanted after his father, Artemis Fowl I, mysteriously disappeared. The author of this book had made this book very eloquent and pictorial, that it had transported you to another world, another dimension where you could imagine everything from the fairies to the houses in the book. The story moves on as Artemis makes a deal with the half dead fairy for the mysterious Book.
This book was the Bible for fairies but it was just in Gnommish. This book provided everything Artemis needed to know about fairies but no computer could translate this book except for when Artemis’s brain clicked, a light flashed he had seen similarities between the Book and other characters, such as hieroglyphics. Every fairy has to do a ritual under certain circumstances such as picking an acorn from an ancient oak tree next to a riverbend, then burying it in another spot, saying "I return you to the earth, and claim the gift that is my right." Since there are only a few locations like this, Artemis and best friend and bodyguard Butler, Butler and his whole family and previous generations have been going through tough training to ensure the safety of their assigned Fowl. As Fowl and Butler hide trying to spot a fairy on one of the locations. In this book the story is told from to points of view, one from the fairies and one from Artemis. The author switches between the two points of view, very clearly without any confusion being created. This story is told from both sides in which we are aware what is happening in both sides but the characters do not. Holly Short, is the only female LEP officer and she has come to this location to regain her magic but before she is able to, she is confronted by Artemis and Butler in which she is taken
hostage. Holly had one one spell she could use with that little ounce of magic left in her body which was to blind humans, but she had taken Artemis lightly since he knew how to counter it. He had worn sunglasses, he had known that the spell would not have worked on mirrored surfaces like sunglasses. Holly had been caught and taken hostage. Captain Root is the head of this branch and has taken it upon himself to rescue Short. The fairies had taken Artemis too lightly since they did not know he had read the Book. The fairies had done multiple attacks at Artemis but all seemed to fail since the knowledge of the child was very great. Holly was able to plant that acorn in a little bit of soil she had found and then she was full to the tip of her toes with magic. In exchange for Short’s release he had asked for gold, for one metric ton of 24 carat gold. Artemis is finally granted the ransom. The gold is sent in, and Artemis asks Holly for a wish, to cure his mother's insanity. Artemis’s mother has been living in her bedroom, driven mad by the loss of her husband. Holly grants the wish at the cost of half the gold. The LEP decides to send in a 'blue rinse' ,a biological bomb that kills all organic life,to eliminate Artemis and allow for the retrieval of the gold, but this fails when Artemis escapes the time-stop by drugging himself and his comrades with sleeping pills. Bound by the law, LEP retrieval squad had left leaving Artemis victorious. According to the book, there is no way out of the blue rinse, but with knowledge Artemis had figured out a way. Artemis explains that he had gotten the idea from old fairy tales, in which human characters never wake up at an inopportune moment for the fairies, and had guessed that time-stops were the reason. Artemis finds his mother has fully recovered from her insanity thanks to Holly's magic. Since the story is told using two different points of view there mood is very different. On the other hand, Artemis is remained very calm, and is two steps ahead of the fairies which is why they are so aggravated. Artemis is very organized and planned. The mood of the fairies is very annoyed and aggravated at the human child’s intelligence. This book has a touch of everything, a touch of fantasy, magic, and mystery. This book is creates a whole movie your head, a book like this is worth sharing. This book has very intricate and developed details within the story. For example, every time a character enters the Fowl mansion, the authors says everything that is seen from the vibes the characters got from the family portraits to the furniture of the house. Your readers would be mesmerized what their imaginations can create after reading the book, each vivid detail would clear and pictorial. Your readers will love how the fight between a 12 year old and a LEP team of fairies goes down. This book will hook in your readers until they have finished the book. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this letter.
Most people live in capitalist societies where money matters a lot. Essentially, ownership is also of significance since it decides to whom the money goes. In present days, human tissues matter in the scientific field. Rebecca Skloot, author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, shows how Henrietta Lacks’s cells have been used well, and at the same time, how they have been a hot potato in science because of the problem of the ownership. This engages readers to try to answer the question, “Should legal ownership have to be given to people?” For that answer, yes. People should be given the rights to ownership over their tissues for patients to decide if they are willing to donate their tissues or not. Reasons will be explained as follows.
Nature’s beauty has the ability to both entice its audience and frighten them. Mary Oliver in her passage explains her experiences with the two sides of nature. Her experiences with the owls elicit both an awe response and a frightened one. In connection, her experiences with a field of flowers draws a similar response where she is both astonished by them and overwhelmed. Oliver’s complex responses display the two sides of nature. It's ability to be both captivating yet overwhelming in its complexity. In “Owl” Mary Oliver uses descriptions of nature demonstrated by owls and fields of flowers in order to convey her complex responses to the two sides of nature.

What defines us as humans? Our nature is what defines us as humans, but what are the significant traits that make up human nature? Good and evil, Self-growth and greed. These are aspects that make up what a “human” is .Artemis struggles within the novels due to these roles which the theme play. The theme plays a significant role which forms him into who he is. The traits of being human that are portrayed play a significant role towards the development of himself and the story. Being human is really the centralized theme and what determines who you truly are, this is important within the story because it’s a battle between good and evil and humans and fairies. Being human is what compels us to sympathize with the decisions that are made within the novel. As humans we make mistakes, and understanding that fact is what allows us to realize that the themes that are being played within the story can relate to the real world. Within the novel, a few central themes are evident, shown progressing throughout the story.
In Ancient Greek times, women were considered to be inferior to men. They were never part of the action, nor were they given significant roles in a world dominated by men. However, in Homer’s The Odyssey, women were not downplayed to weak, helpless beings blended into the background, dependent on men to survive. In fact, together they shaped Odysseus’s journey and contributed to such a strong feminine attitude that have led some scholars to believe that a man could not have possibly have written such an epic.
Cleopatra's family were the rulers of Egypt for more than 100 years before she was born around 69 B.C. The stories and myths surrounding Cleopatra's life inspired people to write a number of books, movies and plays, including Antony and Cleopatra by Shakespeare. Cleopatra has become one of the most well known ancient Egyptians.
Women play an outstanding large role in "The Odyssey" by the Greek poet Homer, although it is much of a tale of a man's heroic quest."The Odyssey" by homer is majority move around Odysseus's quest to return back to his home and wife, Penelope, so that he may be reunited with her someday and take control over his place, which was overrun by suitors. In the presence of the many suitors, Odysseus's son, Telemachos attempts to regain authority but he finds this difficult and he started his own journey under the guidance of Athena. The most parts of the story of "The Odyssey" focus upon the adventures of Odysseus as he endeavors to get back home, which he finally does in the end.
In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, we see a black man marrying a wealthy young white woman named Desdemona. The black man named Othello serves the Italian government, as a general, this man is a very a loyal and trusting person. Othello is easily persuaded as stated by Iago, his ancient, who wrights this passage about him ““The Moor is of a free and open nature, That thinks men honest that but seem to be so, And will as tenderly be led by the nose As asses are. (Act 1, 3,405.)“ This shows us the kind of man Othello is a trusting man, and thinks that everyone is telling the truth. This opens Othello, to believe on the lies that Iago, is telling him. However, Othello is not a stupid man, he is a general after all, and must be shown proof when people put up arguments especially against his own wife, cheating on him. Now the question is why did Othello not look for his own proof of the acquisition laid up against his wife cheating. He surly is not stupid, considering that he has such a high position. In this essay, I will explain why, Othello does not look for more proof, of his wife’s affairs and merely believes Iago.

Roderigo, a character in Othello, is used as a part of Iago’s plan. Iago convinces Othello that Cassio cheated with Desdemona. Iago’s plan ultimately causes Cassio to lose his job and Othello’s trust.
On the 14th of September in the year 1607 the Earl of Tyrone Hugh O’Neill and the Earl of Tyrconnel Rory O’Donnell fled Ireland alongside officials, their families and numerous Gaelic chieftains. They left Ireland from Rathmullen in County Donegal. This flee was to become known as the flight of the Earls. They arrived in the Spanish Netherlands and then eventually made their way to Rome. The Flight of the Earls led to the most drastic form of the British government’s policy of plantation in Ireland. The Flight of the Earls has remained as one of the most memorable events in the history of Ireland. But what exactly were the reasons for the Flight of the Earls? The causes have been debated by historians with different interpretations as to why they fled but it is clear that the influence of the Earls in Ireland have been diminished greatly in the years prior to the Flight of the Earls. This essay seeks to clarify the reasons for the decline in power of the Earls in Ireland through exploration of the solidification of British rule in Ireland, along with key events in the years prior to the Flight of the Earls such as Hugh O’Neill’s campaign and onto the nine years war and the Battle of Kinsale and the Treaty of Mellifont after the Battle of Kinsale.
If there is one subject that is still being widely taught today with significant cultural and historical importance, it has to be the study of ancient Greek mythology. It isn’t just a subject in history, but even then some people might be wondering why the world is still talking about ancient Greek mythology when they are just stories and tales that were written thousands of years ago. However, the vast amount of ancient Greek-themed movies and literature today is astonishing and shows that at least some of the world is still fascinated with the Greeks and their mythology, but still we can see that most can not understand why some people love it to
