In summary, research on animals may be allowed in limits, but either way animals should not be a priority to be tested upon. Trauma Training was once only tested on animals, but recently, trauma stimulators have been found more efficient, being cheaper and more precise. Nonanimal methods should be prioritized over any other methods; not only is it more stressful to animals, but evidence has shown that medical research on animals does not prove true to humans. PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) has developed materials that show an alternative to animal testing, and these techniques have proven more beneficial to humans than would animal testing. This opposing view point of former member of the U.S House of Representatives,
The American Psychological Association (2013) approves of research on animals as long as the test meets the association’s guidelines. The guideline is very in-depth, but the two especially important points are: that the research has an acceptable scientific purpose, and has a reasonable chance of improving the health or welfare of animals or humans. The guideline advises against tests that harm the animal, however if the researchers can prove that the test is important enough they may be able to conduct their studies.
Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing Labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings.
Animals should not be used as test subjects for any research. The innocent and helpless animals’ rights are being violated when they are involved during animal experimentation. These unfortunate animals do not have a choice whether or not they want to be involved in testing. They are not intended for people to experiment on for their own selfish reasons. It is not right to take advantage of the animals because they are helpless and cannot protect themselves. Animals and humans have similarities; they both behave, feel, think, and experience pain. Therefore, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. The pain and suffering an animal is forced to endure is not worth any new product. It is cruel and inhumane to take advantage of an innocent animal. These tests that use animals to ensure the safety of products are extremely common without people even knowing about it. It is not fair to these animals to abuse their beauty. They are helpless and cannot control what is happening to them. Animal experimentation should be stopped because it violates the rights of animals and harms or even kills the animals.
According to the California Biomedical Research Association, almost every medical advancement in the last 100 years is a direct result of animal testing and research. The use of animals has become standard procedure in a wide range of testing and experimentation, including product toxicity testing, biomedical and veterinary experiments, drug development and testing, and education. Major advancements in treating and understanding chronic conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, malaria, and tuberculosis, have been achieved due to animal research. Also, the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve substitutes, and anesthetics are also direct results of the testing and observation of animals. On the other hand, many people believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. In many laboratories animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, physical restraints, and infliction of pain. Because the animals cannot protect themselves, many people argue that exploiting animals to better the lives of humans is wrong and should not be permitted.
... but if researcher did not test animals, they would have to test humans. Overall, animals should be used for testing, but the researcher should be smart enough to use some type of pain reliever or anesthesia on them. .("Animal Testing." ProCon.org. N.p., 1 20 2014. Web. 29 Jan 2014. .)
Animal testing is an immoral, heinous, atrocious act. One should never put an animal before his own life; we are all here on earth due to some strand of evolution or the other, making prejudice and other discriminations (man or not) obsolete and meaningless. Those who would think themselves above another creature are each failures in their own individual way. The rights of animals cannot be questioned, it is an inalienable fact that most do not understand, when given thought that is free of bias and the plague of arrogance, as Arthur Schopenhauer once said: “The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.” In a society as unquestionably advanced as man, a society in which even the consumption of meat is an indulgence and in no way necessary, the duty of treating all life with anything more than a central nervous system is nothing less than a law.
From when you are a baby to when you are an adult animal testing is used in your everyday products. From the Pampers you put on as a baby and the Johnson and Johnson you are washed with. To when you are older the Febreeze, Sunsilk, and Gillette you use.( Companies That do Test on Animals) Animal testing surrounds you in every act of life. “The guess is around 100 million animals are used worldwide in animal testing.” (Animal Rights) Animal testing is rooted from natural curiosity. How the insides of a living organism operate and look is an interesting idea. Because of the fact that dissection of humans was illegal by the Roman Church, animals were the second best option for knowledge of living organisms. (Animal Testing) The debate surrounding the idea of animal testing is a very heated one. There are many alternating opinions to why it is just or not.
At this moment, millions of animals know cold cages in laboratories as home, but why? Some of these animals are subjects for medical research purposes, while others are used out of pure curiosity and to test different products. Majority of these animals are used in painful experiments and are left in agony. While many of them die, a few animals survive, but these unfortunate ones wish they could be put out of their misery as well. Although scientists have resources they could use to lower the pain each animal endures and even alternatives of their test subjects, millions of innocent creatures are still suffering. The fact that animals are still used when animal experimentation is avoidable and not necessary makes animal testing unethical.
If you had the choice to live or die, which would you choose? If you had the alternative to live in a cage or in a house which would you select? If you had the option to have experiments that caused you pain preformed on you would you? The truth is that most of us would rather live, reside in a house and would not be a part of an experiment that caused us pain. However, most people accept the elements of the above conditions for animals. Animals should not be a part of the pain and horrific conditions that humans put them through. We shouldn’t just let these innocent animals suffer and die to save human lives, when we could find other ways to treat diseases.
Conducting medical experiments on animals is a savage act and needs to be banned. It is cruel to the animals involved, it’s not always accurate, and with today’s technology we can create a better alternative. This act should be prohibited and substituted with synthetic subjects.
Animal experimentation is not reliable form of experimenting because humans and animals have completely different immune systems. Items that humans use for pain suppressants could prove to be very harmful to small animals. For example, several small mice at an unknown non government funded facility were given aspirin although in theory it is said that mice and rats have an immune system similar to that of a human being, the rats used for the testing were unable to handle the level of toxins in the aspirin tablet that a human can handle fairly easily, several of these rats and mice died. The torture of these innocent creatures is another example of corporate greed which has gotten to the point that harming innocent creatures is considered the best possible and “cheapest” ...
In addition, people consider that animals are suffering in the experiments. But according to the author Harish (2011), 44% of animals were used in experiments, which involve pain. What’s more, most animals are getting pain relief drugs in the experiments. That can make animals not feel pain. So, the medical animal testing should be done.
Animal testing is cruel and unreasonable! Animals are a total different species, then humans. What may work for humans. May cause animals' problems, or even in some cases death. Not only is testing on animals risky its cost is dramatically higher!
Imagine living your whole life in a tiny cage without any sign of ever being free again. This is the life of animals used in experimental research. Animal testing is used to find out the safety and effectiveness of everything from medication to cosmetics. It has been proven that more than 25 million animals with vertebrae are used in medical research annually. To fully grasp what animal testing is, a brief look into the history is needed.
Project 2 Intermediate Draft The use of animals in biomedical research has led to a breakthrough for diseases and sicknesses throughout history. However it has been a cause for a very heated philosophical, scientific and public debate for hundreds of years. The topic of animal testing has not changed over time due to the fact that animals have been being used for testing for hundreds of years.
