Elizabeth wanted a pet, but her parent was against her decision and gave her a cactus plant instead. Elizabeth was not so happy having a cactus as a pet despite the fact that it is a very good listener. Elizabeth did not give up, she suggested a couple of different animals, such as: Horse, dog, cat, bird, bunny etc. to no avail. Her parent always has something against all the suggested animals and gave her reasons why she could not have them. She later got herself a bug as a pet, which her parent does not have a choice but to allow
her.
Once she is instructed on how to eat oysters and balut; a fertilized duck egg, during a birthday celebration of a Vietnamese family member in the neighborhood. While she was able to enjoy the oysters that had been offered to her with no problem she was unable to eat the duck embryo and instead buried it in her garden. Another time she realizes during a visit with her sister, brother-in-law, and new niece that she had picked up slang form the community. By the end of the book even though she was not an animal activist, she does have much respect for her animals and wants their deaths to be humane and is offended when one does not respect the gift of
Margaret Wise Brown was truly fascinated by animals, and she understood children’s attraction to animals. Tellingly, when Brown reflects on her childhood she mentions her “thirty-six rabbits, two squirrels…a collie dog, and two Peruvian hens, a Belgian hare, seven fish, and a wild robin who came back every spring” (Days Before Now). From this information about Brown, one understands where her love of animals originated--her childhood. Additionally, animals were kind to her and did not restrict or belittle Brown the way some individuals did regularly. Brown was allowed to have constant interaction with animals, which proved to be influential in her writing career. Overall, Margaret Wise Brown used numerous animals, especially rabbits because of her love for creatures and the understanding she possessed of children’s love of and interest with animals.
Jim had just turned 30 and was feeling depressed for not having anyone in his life. After dozing on the beach awhile Jim awoke to an “unmistakable odor”, he’d been pissed on.(1108) He first heard Alena’s voice after cursing the dog. Alena is a very attractive girl and Jim fell for her immediately. Alena and Jim left the beach to go clean the piss off his clothes at Alena’s house. While waiting for the clothes to dry, they began a conversation about animal rights. Animal rights are a huge issue in Alena’s life. Jim never paid much attention to the issue but because of Alena’s beauty and kindness he was willing to listen.
The American Dream! The vision that gets sold that a life in the US is a wonderful dream! For many undeveloped countries around the world, the United States is seen as the land of the opportunity. The land where hard work will be rewarded and all goals can be achieved. However the real United States is not as wonderful as it seems for an immigrant, specially an illegal immigrant. It is no doubt minorities in the United States are discriminated and somehow targeted. Lets take for example the popular Arizona Senate Bill 1070, better known as SB 1070. The law became so controversial and popular at the same time, multiple states adopted its own version of it. The goal? “Make neighborhoods safe” by deporting all illegal immigrants (Eagly). Mass
The parents’ different views and outlooks on the world influence their daughter’s decisions and alter how she reacts to Gaston throughout the story. One difference among the parents is their financial status. While on the phone with her mother, the mother said she was, “sending the chauffeur to pick her up…” This dialogue from the mother illustrates that she is wealthy. Earlier in the story, the girl was describing her dad saying, “He was at home. She was with him in his home in Paris, if you could call it a home.” The girl’s opinion demonstrates how different her life is at home. The opinion also shows how the dad’s house is not nearly as nice as her home. These quotes portray the differences in the financial aspects of the two parents’ lives. Another demonstration of the distinction between the parents is how they react to the bug. When the dad sees the bug, he proceeds to name it and defend it. The girl says, “Everybody hollers when a bug comes out of an apple, but you don’t holler or anything.” The dad replies by saying, “Of course not. How should we like it if somebody hollered every time we came out of our house?” This conversation shows how the dad is creative and accepting things that are odd. In contrast, when the mom sees the bug she immediately rejects it. The mom says, “Somebody gets a peach with a bug in it, and throws it away, but not him. He makes up a lot of
Imagine wanting not a puppy, but a tiger for your birthday, imagine the expenses of that tiger and the dangers and hazards of owning that tiger. Do you really think it’s a good idea to get that tiger? No, it’s not. It’s a lot of work, and it’s also very dangerous. Exotic animals are not good to buy and have. If you buy that cute tiger, it will eventually grow up and not be so cute, it will be dangerous and strong, it’s also a wild animal and it’s very unpredictable, also there are many diseases you can catch from that tiger, and there are many dangers of having that tiger as well. Marijuana can help people. It can help cure illness, and at the very least can be vital in alleviating suffering, as it has for those like young Charlotte Figi, whose constant, life threatening seizures were
For years the United States of America has been waging a war against drugs. The U.S federal government has spent well over fifteen billion dollars annually on combating illegal drugs. Marijuana in this day and age seems to be one of the most controversial drugs, and is at the forefront of the discussion boards on whether or not one should legalize the drug. Marijuana should be legalized not only because the government could tax it while reducing the national deficit, but also because some patients need it for medicinal purposes, and this will lead to a reduction in the crime rate by removing the taboo from the drug itself.
“According to the Marijuana Policy Project in the viewpoint that follows, marijuana could help ease the suffering of millions of Americans if it were legalized.”(Marijuana Policy Project 1) The use of Medical marijuana can help treat a variety of diseases and also relieve pain. It is also grown by certified scientists who have made it safe for the patient for medical use only not for recreational. Another benefit of legalizing medical marijuana is that it will provide jobs and help to boost our economy. Medical Marijuana should be legalized in the United States because it is scientifically proven to help treat numerous diseases, it is prescribed by a doctor and will be safe for the patients, and it will decrease the job unemployment in our country and boost economy through taxes.
Being a teenager my mother explained having a pet was a great responsibility somehow I was frustrated she didn’t understand my passion and love for dogs! Nothing in the world would convince her to let us get one. She claimed I can have a turtle if I desperately wanted to have a pet. I couldn’t agree.
I believe that marijuana should be legalized. Currently marijuana is legal, for both medicinal and recreational use in 24 states and The District of Columbia; with that, I don’t see why it can’t be legalized in all 50. Marijuana has more than 50 different uses, the main one being for medicinal purposes. I weed were to become legal, it would clear out a lot of space in our prisons. Which would help us to rebuild our economy. Also, it would fuel economic growth by creating a new income for the United States. People argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, meaning that it leads users to stronger, more dangerous drugs, but studies prove that assertion to be false. In conclusion, I believe that best thing for America is to legalize marijuana.
While immigration for our country is good the ability to become a legal citizen has become insanely hard therefore leading immigrants to illegally cross our border, which negatively impacts our country.
Marijuana continues to be one of the most used illegal drugs in the United States. Marijuana has been used for many years and at one time was legal to consume. Throughout the years, marijuana has been used for treatment of different medical conditions and has been used recreationally by people of all ages. While the use of medicinal marijuana has proven to be effective in treating medically ill patients, society continues to question its recreational use and the long term effects it will have on its users. Some feel that legalizing marijuana will only open up avenues for the use of more potent drugs, causing an increase in criminal activity. However, a number of people question why it is considered illegal being it is a naturally growing
The legalization of marijuana is a controversial topic, but marijuana should be legalized because it has many positive effects and there is a lot of evidence to support why marijuana should be legalized in all states. Marijuana is a preparation of the cannabis plant and it can be used as a drug or as medicine. The primary component of cannabis is THC (Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol). This drug has mind-altering and physiological side effects when consumed. Marijuana can be used for spiritual reasons or recreationally. It is the third most popular recreational drug used in America, referring to “About Marijuana.” According to government surveys, more than 14 million Americans, out of 25 million Americans who have smoked marijuana within the past year, use marijuana habitually. Although marijuana is illegal in most
Is marijuana really as terrible as most people say? The marijuana industry is worth 141.80 billion dollars, and there are about 180.6 marijuana smokers in this world as of 2013 (24 Mind-Blowing Facts About Marijuana Production in America). Marijuana, more formally known as cannabis, is a very important crop in this world, and it should be legalized. Marijuana should be legalized because it is not dangerous, especially compared to the other legalized drugs out there today, such as alcohol and tobacco, it is beneficial, prohibition of marijuana is a useless waste of time and money, and because marijuana prohibition is unconstitutional.
