In summary to these quotes social life at college could help students grow into mature people. For my last reason, college will help someone make a better life.. “I have failed over and over and over again in life, but that's how I succeed”. (barack obama) What obama is saying that the only way to succeed is to fail. Fail also means failed attempt in learning. That's how one would progress in life. One can't always get what one wants. Another point that society makes is that college will turn its students into better people. But how does college actually turn someone into a better person? College can place students in situations that call for responsibility and in situations where they may demonstrate qualities of leadership. However college does nothing more then give the students the opportunity to demonstrate the qualities that they already possess. As Bird effectively quotes from respected psychologists Bruner and Piaget, "Specific learning skills have been acquired very early in life, perhaps even before formal schooling begins" (306). Piaget and Bruner believe that the skills of leadership and responsibility have been learned prior college. College simply provides an environment to display the basic skills.
“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in.” ("Isaac Asimov." Goodreads. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 May 2016.) This quote by Isaac Asimov perfectly states how I personally feel about assumptions. In any event, it is good to have an open mind, especially when it comes to people's personal experiences and struggles. It is better to be a thoughtful person rather than assuming things about people that may not be true. That being said, Assumptions about community college students are unfair and incorrect. Misled people say that community college students are unable to attend a four-year university. As well as a degree from a community college is not as good as a university degree. I
College is thought of as what every parent wants for their child, so they can go off andmake something of themselves. For the most part, this is true. Those who attend college arebetter off than those who do not, on average, earning far more than their undereducatedcounterparts. College is a worthwhile investment and should be pursued by all who have thechance because it helps students further their knowledge, it is a place to find who you are, and itgives them a different perspective of the world.College is worth the cost because if college was available for everybody and collegedegrees were handed out as commonly and at the same rate as high school diplomas then collegewould not be that special. Therefore, college would just be an extension of high school. Ifanyone could get their hands on a degree, how would you be able to get the job you want? College has long been a bastion of hope for those not fortunate enough to inherit a business or fortune from their predecessors, on the other side of the coin; it has also been the site of major controversy and debate, especially surrounding the ever-growing cost of attendance and the rewards that a degree realistically gives onto its holder. The debate is not a new one, but with the recent economic downturn, and the vast sums of new college graduates entering the world without the chance of finding a job, more fuel was added to the fire, and the debate began anew. In order to present new arguments on both sides, articles have been written and published in major newspapers like The Economist and The New York Times, with some varying data and conclusions. David Leonhardt, author of the article published in the NYT by the name of, “Is College Worth?

Sometimes students question themselves if college is really worth it? That question has many answers that only a student can answer and decide for him or herself. For some students college can have a positive, life-long outcome. However, there are many obstacles when it comes to college. A student has to be very dedicated in school, and they have to know how to manage their personal life, school and work. College seems like it has more negative effects than it does positive for some people. For the following reasons college is not worth the cost because it is very difficult to find jobs after graduating or they find a job that is not in their field, some students who are not academically prepared wind up dropping out of school and wasting their money and some students struggle to balance school life, personal life and work life. It is easy to think college is not worth the cost to become better, but getting educated molds a better person, and creates happier people in the future and occasionally they become better in health (Leonhardt 25 ). Becoming a better and happier person is pleasing for everyone. Even former President Obama says “‘Education helps us be better people. It helps us be better citizens. You came to college to learn about the world and to engage with new ideas and to discover the things you're passionate about -- and maybe have a little fun’” (Procon.org). Learning and engaging in everything is a skill everyone should have, so like he said we should go to college to be able to do that. Additionally, education shows people to develop more intellectual skill and become more responsible (Pew Social and Demographic Trends).
