Panic-stricken and sobbing, a mother wakes her family up to simply tell them that their young , African American son has been pulled over. Little do they know what was simply marked as a signaling violation costs their sons his life. He reaches for his license and registration , as he was told , and had nine shots fired in his torso through the window of his new car that he had earned as a graduation present from his parents. The officer claimed he saw the young man reaching for a weapon, and that's all it took for a young, aspiring black male’s death to be justified. Although before this in February of 2012, 17 year old Trayvon Martin was shot to his death for simply “looking suspicious” to the neighborhood watch captain of the street. Several people were left speechless, heartbroken, and even afraid that this is real and happens in the United States. Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi began using the hashtag #blacklivesmatter to show that black lives should be respected and protected just as much and any other life. Within hours, millions of people began using the hashtag. Two years later the instagram trend became a reality. Michael Brown was shot by a police officer because he “fit the description” of the suspect the officer was ordered to look for. Some families teach their children to put their wallets on the dashboard when driving so the officer does not suspect the adolescent is reaching for anything that could potentially be harmful. Also families teach their children that when meeting an officer they should greet them with a “hello sir/ma’am” and speak to them as if they are the highest power so they do not suspect any threat of disrespect. These should not have to be the principles that are taught in everyday life. However in the recent years the “talk” about how to interact with any form of authority is as common as a “hello” or “goodbye”. To some the police are the men and women that are called when there has been a crime or someone has been harmed, on the other hand the police are the ones that cause harm and make some terrified when they even see their cars in passing on the
