Despite its absurd popularity, modern wheat in all of its variations is not a healthy food and should be avoided if possible. There is a common misconception that wheat should be a staple in our diets, and this often leads people down the road of failure. As a health nut, fitness is a highly-valued attribute which we all strive to improve upon. I have encountered many well-intentioned athletes and other people who have difficulty losing weight despite strict adherence to a "heart healthy" diet comprised of a large quantity of grains, particularly wheat. Correcting this false ideology is important to me because it will allow people to reach their fitness goals more effectively than before. Wheat contains gluten, which is not only harmful to people with celiac disease but can also damage the cilia in everyone's digestive tracts. This supports my main argument because wheat is a grain which contains gluten. Fluctuating insulin levels result in never-ending hunger and energy crashes. It may be challenging because wheat is an established food which many people do not want to give up. People have probably been eating wheat for years with no apparent negative health consequences, so trying to convince them otherwise may be difficult.
