I think that the holiday should be called President’s Day.
First,I think it should be called President’s day cause you are not just celebrating George’s birthday you are celebrating George and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. This is my second reason why I think it should be called president day cause 50 states are changing it on their calendar to President’s day. Finally I think it should be called president’s day because you are not just celebrating on person’s birthday but all President’s birthday.
In conclusion, these are my reasons for why the holiday should be called Presidents Day instead of Washington’s Birthday.
Christopher Columbus does not deserve to be honored as a hero with his own holiday. Close to 500 years, people have praised Christopher Columbus and also celebrated him as though he was the one who truly founded America. Teachers teach students that he was a great man, also how he found treasures and land known as America. Students are also taught about the names of his three ships he used on his first voyage. However, they did not teach us the truth about Christopher Columbus, and his so called “discovery”.
Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States, is not one of the most well-known presidents to have ever served in office though he did do some good things during his presidency. The vice president’s journey to the presidency began after the assassination of the beloved president, John F. Kennedy. Before serving as president, he was the youngest Senator to ever serve as a majority leader and he sat in the House of Representatives. Although Johnson served two terms as president, he only ran in one election because of the death of Kennedy. However, the one election he ran in, he won in by a landslide (Ridings & Melver 231). Lyndon B Johnson, the Democratic president, who served from 1963-1969, might have been infamous for the decisions he made during the Vietnam War, but his Great Society and Civil Rights Act helped shape the nation in a good way.
After all these years since the United States was born, no one has forgotten the name George Washington. George Washington helped the United States gain its independence. That wasn't all after we one independence George Washington was elected the first U.S. president. I believe that George Washington was the best president because he was our first, its because of how we are today, even though the U.S. is going through a rough patch right now he left a great name for the United States Of America. George Washington was the right man for the job.

The United States of America’s 40th president, Ronald Wilson Reagan served as our country’s leader from 1981 to 1989. Ronald Reagan was a very strong advocate for freedom. Many and most of his speeches were related to freedom or the concept of freedom was thrown in and mentioned in the speeches. A large part of Reagan’s campaign was freedom. His beliefs on this matter did not all come from morals, Ronald Reagan’s perception of freedom came from his lifestyle of/in Christianity.
The discussion of making English the nation’s official language has sparked an ongoing debate among many individuals for several decades. As of now, the United States does not have an official language due to the diverse population. Many individuals believe that by establishing an official language, the United States is being culturally insensitive, that diversity is the key to forming America’s identity. However, establishing English as the official language would promote unity among not only American citizens but also the nation.

At first when seeing Electoral College in high school, I thought it was a place that you go to school. Silly me, I didn’t know anything about the government and how it was ran or what makes up the government. I really didn’t start learning about the government until the 10th grade, when I took American Government with Mr. Evans. If he never did anything else, he made sure that we knew about the government and how and why it was ran the way it was ran.

On November 11, we celebrate a holiday called Veterans Day. This day used to be called Armistice Day. It was called this because, November 11, 1918, was the day that World War I ended. This war was known as the War that End All Wars. Sadly, it was not the last war so they changed the name of this day. When Congress changed the name of this holiday in 1954 they called it Veterans Day. Congress named it Veterans Day because it honors people who have risked their lives for you and me.
Today the Second Amendment is in the media more and more due to the recent up rise in crimes with firearms. Every person seems to have an opinion on whether our Second Amendment should be removed or it should not ever be touched. “A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunitions to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include the government.” (George Washington) The Second Amendment of the constitution reads "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Today the actual meaning of the second amendment is still not fully clear. If you were to ask multiple people the definition of the second amendment, you would receive a different one from each person. Also, you would be able to determine whether they are pro or anti-gun
Not a day goes past that without hearing about the presidential candidates. The local polls, debates, drama, and the daily attacks people in the political parties. I hear this information whether I want too or not. One can always be up to date when it comes to the upcoming election either on the television news, or radio, and reading about it in the daily newspaper. And the presidential election seems to be what everyone is talking about or using social media to express their own personal sides. Why wouldn’t it be? It’s not like every year we get a new commander and chief. The presidential election is something that Americans looks forward to every four years. Every president wants their own day, why don't we give them one. This day would be celebrated on their birthday. This holiday will celebrate what they’ve done for our country, what they plan on doing, and show the people are supporting them.
American holidays have been around ever since the Mayflower made its long voyage overseas. Many of the holidays that we celebrate today have originated from holidays from before America even existed. Even though the historical figures that holidays are for, as well as the beliefs holidays are based upon are slipping away from Americans’ minds, holidays should not be eliminated from the calendar. This is because they have shaped and are continuing to shape American culture, and they are all cultural and/or historical events.
