Lillian Smith states in her article White House Visitor Center:¨Architect, James Hoban, designed the preposterous residence. The White House first was under construction in Washington D.C. in 1792. It was completed in the year 1800 by numerous slaves.¨ President John Adams was the first to move in. It was decided that every time a new president was elected, he or she would live in this incredible structure. It has astonishing history. During the War of 1812, America was fighting Great Britain. Pennsylvania has a wide variety of beautiful historical buildings that reflect many different styles of architecture. They include historical homes, unique covered bridges, government buildings, and breathtaking churches. Some of Pennsylvania’s most recognized examples of great architecture are Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Fallingwater” and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts located in Philadelphia. However, the one building that I think of when it comes to great architecture is The Pennsylvania State Capitol. The Pennsylvania State Capitol building, located in Harrisburg, is a great example that represents a variety of architectural elements and a rich history.
Jackie brought big changes to the White House. She transformed it from a museum-like residence to a "real" home. She redecorated the White House with beautiful furniture and art. To help raise money for the restoration, Jacqueline wrote a book about the White House that raised $250,000 in the first three months. Jackie also brought young children with her. There hadn?t been children as young as Caroline and John Jr. in the White House for many years. She brought in a French chef and threw elegant parties. For the 1961 inauguration, she hired Oleg Cassini to create a glamorous wardrobe.
Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States, is not one of the most well-known presidents to have ever served in office though he did do some good things during his presidency. The vice president’s journey to the presidency began after the assassination of the beloved president, John F. Kennedy. Before serving as president, he was the youngest Senator to ever serve as a majority leader and he sat in the House of Representatives. Although Johnson served two terms as president, he only ran in one election because of the death of Kennedy. However, the one election he ran in, he won in by a landslide (Ridings & Melver 231). Lyndon B Johnson, the Democratic president, who served from 1963-1969, might have been infamous for the decisions he made during the Vietnam War, but his Great Society and Civil Rights Act helped shape the nation in a good way.

Dell Upton is a historian and renowned professor of architecture and Urbanism at the University of California. He has published several books on architecture; one of them is “Architecture in the United States”, published in 1998. In this book, Upton analyzes the architecture of the United States in different aspects, such as nature, money and art, thus depicting the great variety in architectural forms, and how throughout the decades, different interests have lead communities to different ways of building, different purposes and materials, thus reflecting their way of thinking and their relationship with the environment. By exploring so many different architectural styles, Upton reveals the great diversity and richness that has always, and continues to characterize American architecture.
The fact that Thomas Jefferson was an untrained designer with what seems to be architectural genius would give reason enough to study and research his works. Jefferson said, “Architecture is my delight.” Monticello, the Virginia Capital, and the University of Virginia being Jefferson’s most well known architectural feats. His French style architecture can be seen all over the state of Virginia and the world.
From its revolutionary design to its breathtaking structure itself, the mansion is a monument to the past innovations which fostered America´s beginnings. The free-thinking nature which drove Jefferson himself is also expressed in the mansion and the inventions which lie within. This spirit of originality and independent thought are sorely missed today, and the nation could benefit greatly from a revival of these values. The memorialization of Jefferson himself is also to be valued, as one who gave so much to his community needs recognition and respect, his sheer genius also is inspirational. The preservation of Monticello allows the qualities of genius, innovation, and intelligence to be preserved for the future, in the hope that Monticello may inspire the next Jefferson to send civilization to even greater heights.

His design was a Neo-classical plan that followed the classical style of ancient Greece and Rome. He drew a building that consists of two wings that extended north and south of a centural section. A huge cast-iron dome rests on the central section of the building.(World, 196) President Washington was very pleased with Dr. Thorton's plans and he was awarded first prize. Now it was time for Washington to lay the cornerstone on September 18, 1793.(National Park)
It began as a country house designed by James Hoban, but throughout time, it had renovations, expansions and many additions used to enhance it to fit with the standards of the president and the ever-changing America and finally built up to of the White House that is there today. But what stuck with the original plan and is still apparent today, is the use of Greek Architecture within the plans of James Hoban. “Hoban's Georgian design reached back to Roman and Greek styles. His plan called for a rectangular, threestory structure containing thirty-six rooms. It featured a tripped roof, a balustrade, and large symmetrically arranged windows with alternating triangular and curved pediments”
There is a distinct lack of shadiness like many other tourist attractions vying to exploit history, instead a beautiful and respectful coverage of the turmoil of America during the 1860s. I was deeply moved by the experience, and the opportunity to walk along the fields where thousands of Americans lost their lives was heart-wrenching. The Civil War should be remembered as more than a one-dimensional battle of right vs wrong, and instead a complex series of human mistrials and emotions, with Gettysburg at the focal
To obtain and understanding of the current state of American Architecture and its development, we must first briefly establish the origin of architecture in America. Much of the 17th-century English colonial architecture resembled late medieval forms that had survived throughout much of rural England. The first American architecture houses were built in a wide range of sizes, gables, and overhangs. They also had a lack of symmetry that was reflected in the late medieval style throughout Europe. However, unlike rural England’s architecture, in Virginia and Maryland; brick construction and a symmetrical facade were preferred for one story homes. Upon the idea of domestic homes, cities began to be founded in the 17th century. Cities such as Boston, were chaotic in plan and with the turn of the 18th century, colonies began to take on a more permanent role, often establishing individual character. Newly founded cities, such as: Williamsburg, Virginia; Annapolis, Maryland, and especially Philadelphia began to be laid out in a logical organization of regular grids. This eluded planners in London during the same period and thus the diverse seed of American architecture was planned. Continuing the development of unique American architecture, American in the early 1890s began to value their own heritage and architectural language featuring larger neighborhood tracts. In the 19th century, the Colonial Revival style took a more eclectic style, and columns were often seen.
