The Lodhi Gardens, in India, contain a mosque, a place for Muslims to worship God. The famous mosque, “built… by the Saiyads and the Lodhis…have been beautifully maintained and preserved” (Gupta). The mosque contains inscriptions of the Qur’an with floral patterns on the ceiling (Gupta). The mosque, one can argue, may represent Islam as a whole, with beauty and symmetry, inscribing verses from the Qur’an. One can say the mosque at the Lodhi Gardens makes an argument. Because of the objective beautiful aesthetic of the mosque, people are drawn to it, often the site for school trips and tourism, and the mosque presents itself, winning people over and making the mosque a site to see; however without the inscriptions of the Qur’an, the Lodhi Gardens …show more content…
Any decent argument tackles its oppositions, but truly strong arguments refutes the opposing side without any chances for the latter to be correct. Because Islam is the newest religion at the time, the religion has the ability to combat both Judaism and Christianity. By saying “We sent Jesus…to confirm the Torah that had been sent before him: We gave him the Gospel with guidance, light, and confirmation of the Torah,” the Islamic faith says the Jews interpreted the Torah wrong, which is why the “People of the Book” received the Gospel through Jesus (Haleem 865). After the setup of the argument, the Qur’an drives the point of Jesus saying “I would never say what I had no right to say,” meaning he takes back what he says in the Gospel or confirms that the words in the Gospel are lies (Haleem 869). Having a firsthand account of the major religious figure in Christianity, Islam discredits Christianity, because Jesus rejects what he said in the Gospel and then proceeds to tell one of the major tenants of Islam. By saying that the first group of people got God’s word wrong sets up the argument Islam is superior, because Islam claims it got the word right and will guide them and “give [them] the good news and warn [them]” (Haleem 863). Islam ends the arguments of other religions by completely discrediting the sources. In a linear time line, …show more content…
The religion must provide an argument to convince people to convert, provide a counter argument to combat the oppositions to itself to stand as an argument, and present itself in a way where the reader is convinced that the argument is solid and drives home the point. Much like how the Lodhi Gardens move a person to explore its inside, the Qur’an is a way for the Islamic faith to draw in people to convert to its religion. By comparing the two, the beauty of their arguments presents itself in two different ways. The Lodhi Gardens is aesthetically beautiful from its architecture and the artwork of the inscriptions of the Qur’an on the wall. Meanwhile, the Qur’an’s words are what makes it beautiful by having a solid argument that convinces readers to buy convert, which has lasted from the creation of this religion to now, still converting people to join the Islamic
Because of Islam’s holy book, The Qur’an revolved a lot around the sacred language, Arabic, which was very beneficial for trade. Since the text in The Qur’an was in Arabic, it helped spread language, religion and culture when people traded it (Outside Source: Spread of Islam Background Reading Packet). This helped spread Islam because a lot of people read it, they may have thought of the same way and told themselves that they should become and adherent (Adherent: “Sticking to” or “ Having Faith in”) to Islam (Doc
In "Between Cult and Culture: Bamiyan, Islamic Iconoclasm, and the Museum," Finbarr Barry Flood expresses many ideas concerning Islamic iconoclasm. His focus was on the ."..iconoclastic practices of Muslims living in the eastern Islamic world, especially Afghanistan and India." Flood discusses issues with traditional patterns considering Islamic iconoclasm and the "many paradoxes" that "complicate" our understanding of Islamic iconoclasm. Throughout this essay we become familiar with "essentialist conceptions of Muslim iconoclasm" as well as "political aspects of what has largely been conceived of as a theological impulse." These points later provide a basis for analyzing the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha by the Taliban in March 2001. "It will be argued that their obliteration indexed not a timeless response to figuration but a calculated engagement with a culturally specific discourse of images at a particular historical moment."

On Friday, October 23rd, I visited the Islamic Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I participated in the one o’clock prayer and lecture. Since I grew up in a Cuban and Mexican household, it was difficult to find a place, which was not of my own culture. Since I visit Bowling Green every other weekend, I decided to find a place there. I chose the Islamic Center because I have always been intrigued by the Muslim religion and culture. However, I had little knowledge of the customs and I knew visiting the Islamic Center would be beneficial for me.
5.Argent believers of other religions do not possess the religious tolerance such as Akbar. They would have opposed the unification of their beliefs with other religions. Also, many devout Muslims argued that Din-i-Illahi was blasphemy to Islam.
I think a gigantic funerary mosque of white marble, built in Agra by order of the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, the Taj Mahal is the most perfect jewel of Moslem art in India and is one of the universally admired architectures of the world’s heritage. Not only see the beautiful Taj Mahal from the video, I also knew the history of itself and its country. A white marble tomb sums up many of the formal themes that have played through Islamic architecture. The video did talk a lot of how much Shah Jahan himself and his father loved art and made many gorgeous artworks. Taj Mahal’s refined style is a conspicuous contrast to the Hindu architecture of pre-Islamic India, with its thick walls, arches, and heavy supports. Even though Taj Mahal is the symbol of grief and sadness, it still has it beauty looks from marble and sand stone.

Islam is the only non-Christian faith that recognizes Jesus. Yet, Islam denies Jesus’ divinity, crucifixion and resurrection. Islam beliefs respect and reverse Jesus. Jesus is considered one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind. Jesus is considered a Prophet, and Envoy of God of surpassing greatness, but only a man and nothing more. According to the Muslim, Jesus was a performer of exceptional miracles. Jesus was rescued by God from an untimely end, was raised up to heaven and will come back to earth again to die a Muslim. Jesus is not the Savior of the World, according to the Muslim, and is certainly not God, or the “Son of God’.
The Bibi Khanym is a congregational mosque, masjid-i jami` in Persian, built by Emperor Timur-i Leng between 1399 and 1404 in Samarkand, present day Uzbekistan. Emperor Timur remarkably expanded his small tribe into the Timurid Dynasty, which lasted from 1370 to 1507. Timur showed great leadership skills and also had an interest in architecture. The results of his artistic interests are especially apparent in Samarkand, the capital of the Timurids during Timur’s reign where art, architecture, and culture flourished. The Bibi Khanum exemplifies the vision that Timur held for Samarkand because of the monument’s dominant and massive nature. Although today the mosque is different from the time of the Timurid Dynasty because of the renovations over the years, the Bibi Khanum is still a testimony to the unbelievable and intricate architecture of the times. The Bibi Khanum congregational mosque is an exceptional example of Timur’s style of grand building and incredible embellishments expressed throughout the Timurid Dynasty.
Muslims also accept the authority of the Qur’an because it helps them to understand the qualities and nature of Allah and it shows them how to follow His straight path. Also, the Qur’an provides a framework of belief about Allah and can give those who choose to follow the teachings an inner peace. It encourages believers to lead a good life and it offers support and help in times of need and hardship.
The Mosque is the symbol of the great of Islamic. The development of the mosque was grown base of adifferent culture and country, but still have a same function and goals. The demise of development of the mosque was started during Prophet Muhammad (peace upon to him) through to four main Islam dynasties. There are included Ummayad dynasties, Abbasid dynasties, Fatimid dynasties, Safavids dynasties and Ottoman dynasties. In this chapter, the researcher will explain the development, function, component and facilities of Mosque among the Muslim.
A mosque is a holy sacred building of worship for the muslim ummah. In Arabic, the word mosque means masjid “a place of worship”.The word masjid was derived from the arabic word salad which means “to bow down to prayer”.Building a mosque is a part of islamic culture and tradition. The first thing the prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) did upon reaching Madina was to build a mosque, the mosque of Quba .Since then muslims have built mosques wherever they go for their needs in the community.Muslims take the mosque very importantly as it is highly sacred and it is visited everyday for the five daily prayers. In the mosque, there is an imaam who leads the prayer in front of other parties. So prayer at the mosque is congregational.
The entire courtyard is surrounded by hujras or small rooms where the students who had come to stay would probably have been provided with accommodation. These students would have studied at the madrassa at the mosque because in those times almost all the mosques also served as madrassas (religious schools). They would have learned the holy Quran and Arabic from the Imam and other resident scholars of the Badshahi mosque. The British demolished the hujras on the east side of the mosque so that this mosque could not be turned into a fort to be used against the British. An interesting thing about this mosque is that although it has been built on an extremely grand scale and no apparent expense has been omitted in decorating it yet their are only two inscriptions on the entire mosque. One is the inscription on the main gate, which gives us the name of the founder of the mosque along with the name of the supervisor and the date of its completion.. The second inscription is the Kalimah on the wall of the central prayer chamber. Why was the mosque not adorned by more Quranic verses or the Ahadis of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is a mystery, which offers no solutions. 0ne possible theory is that emperor Aurangzeb who was the patron of this mosque was a very strong Wahhabi Muslim and thus as is the practice of Wahhabis that they do not adorn their buildings with pictures murals or other embellishments so Aurangzeb ordered this mosque to be laid out in such a simple design. The use of red sandstone is widely seen in the construction of the mosque. This red stone was originally mined at a quarry in Jaipur in India and was carted to Lahore. Incidentally when the mosque underwent a massive renovation program in modern times the govern...
