Getting children of any age to sit still can be a challenge for teachers. Classrooms are overcrowded in many schools, and the children have more energy than ever. Teaching children of any age can be difficult, especially when they are very active. Children are active beings; their desire to move about freely can interfere with their education when they have a hard time sitting still for long periods of time. It has been widely believed and accepted as common knowledge that children need to sit still and be silent in order to learn and retain information. There have been many studies that suggest that quite the opposite is true. Sitting still is not the best way for children to learn, and forcing children to sit still can have negative effects on their bodies. When we move, our heart rate and our circulation increase. Movement also allows more oxygen to flow to key areas in our brains. Allowing children to move around or fidget while listening and learning is beneficial to their education. Although sitting still is hard for many children, it is especially hard for those who have ADHD. There is not one universal way of learning that suits every student out there. Students perform best academically in the conditions that work the best for them personally. There are many different ways to concentrate and work; fidgeting is just one of the most common. They need to learn the difference between multitasking and trying to do multiple things at a time. Knowing what can have little attention and what needs your full attention can help out a lot. For example when you are talking to someone, that is when your full attention is needed, as well as working on homework. When something needs a little bit of your attention it will be okay to be distracted. For example it is okay to work out and watch television at the same time, because you are just trying to either entertain or distract yourself to make time go by faster.
It helps babies and young children improve their balance and flexibility, improve their bone strength, heart and lung capacity. Regular physical activity and exercise and engagements is very important for a healthy brain development in babies and young children. Physical activity and movement can help stimulate the brain growth and facilitate key connections for learning. Babies would develop muscle tone over time so they could begin to crawl. Exercise and physical activity improves babies and young children’s coordination, catching and throwing skills, enjoyment, motivation and social skills. It increases energy boosts and helps stop stress and anxiety which affects positively on self esteem. Children can burn off bottled up energy at recess that they have accumulated while sitting through their teacher’s lessons. This is helpful because the child will be focused on what they are learning instead of fidgeting in their chair. Also, providing breaks to students while they are learning can result in longer attention spans. Recess is a break that recharges the brain and allows elementary students to control their desire to adventure. When kids are getting their necessary period of interrupted play it has great benefits in the classroom helping their cognitive skills to grow. As children get to play at regular intervals through out the day, they children are able to diminish stress and other types of distractions so when they sit down they are more attentive and productive.

Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
What I learned during the observation is that have a good layout and a good environment setting children are more willing learn and play with the children around them. They need to feel that they are apart of the classroom. That is part of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need. You environment the classroom need to make children feel safe because if they don’t feel safe they are always going to be on high alert and not pay attached to what going on they are also not going to play or do anything in the classroom. Having the right environment makes it easy for children to explore and learn everything they need have those center or station is not just their for children to have fun and play that because while they are playing and have fun they are learning.
Lack of Adaptability. ADHD children have a very difficult time adapting to even minor changes in routines, such as getting up in the morning, putting on shoes, eating new foods, or going to bed. Any shift in a situation can precipitate a strong and noisy negative response. Even when they are in a good mood, they may suddenly shift into a tantrum if they meet with an unexpected change or frustration. In one experiment, ADHD children were able to closely anchor their attention when they were directly cued to a specific location, but they had difficulty shifting their attention to an alternative location.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, normally abbreviated as ADHD, is a disorder in which a person has trouble paying attention and focusing on tasks, tends to act without thinking and has trouble sitting still. This condition may begin in early childhood and continue into adulthood. Without treatment ADHD can cause problems at home, school, work and any social gatherings.

A very common disorder in children is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD. These students have a difficult time holding attention due to the lack of the ability to concentrate. These students tend to act impulsively, have attention deficits, and sometimes exude hyperactive behaviors. Children that have ADHD do not qualify for special education unless they also have another disability. Approximately 7.8 percent of children from the ages of 4 to 17 have been diagnosed with ADHD, research also shows that males are more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD over women. These ratios vary from 4:1 to 9:1. These students with ADHD can be impulsive, which means they act before they think or before considering the situation that they are currently in. They also have a hard time concentrating and find it difficult to sit still. This is a time of rapid physical growth and development. Primary grade children are very active and have difficulty in sedentary activities during the learning process (Snowman, McCown, & Biehler, 2012, p. 80). Think about when you have seen children out at recess in the primary grade level. These children look like they are running around like wild animals. They have so much energy built up and need to release it. When children participate in sedentary activities they must release energy and a lot of times it is in the form of nervous habits. This could be for example pencil chewing, fingernail biting and just general fidgeting and being antsy (Snowman, McCown, & Beihler, 2012, p. 80). You will want to try to avoid these behaviors, because they may become distractions for the student, other peers, or even you while the learning process is going on (Madsen, Hicks, & Thompson, 2011). Try to avoid situations where students are just sitting at their desks for long periods of time.
