Byron Center April 25, 2018- Byron Centers West Middle School students are currently questioning the new debut of assigned seats that mysteriously appeared. It is a mystery to students why they’re even are assigned seats. As many kids wonder what they did to cause this. Some may think it’s because they were oblivious to the mess that they may have made during the course of the week. Others think it could also be because a smaller band of students decided to start clapping to round up the students at lunch. These possibilities are all valid, but however there still seems to be a mystery. When these possibilities were mentioned to Mrs. Bastic’s 1st hour class, some students came back with saying “But having assigned seating doesn’t solve the problem”. …show more content…

In a way this may be seen as an example of a crime that doesn't fit the punishment. Students are being punished for what seems to be trouble cleaning up, and rallying students together, but this punishment most likely wouldn’t even solve the problem in the first place. This really is a part of the entire mystery of why students have assigned seats. Apparently the 7th graders in 2017 had assigned seating which lasted for about half the year, and according to this time frame and students, it seemed to do nothing. So a major question is if this will happen again this year with the 8th graders, where they are told where to sit, and if it will actually make a difference in the students. All the while this may seem to do no good, a teacher at the school seemed to think differently. “Students may be more likely to clean up after themselves to get what they want” said Ms.Murray, the R.O.W teacher of the school. She continued to say that if students really want to be able to choose where they sit, they will clean up there mess, and do what there
