Sex before marriage is frequently an unstable subject. In any case, I feel that sex before marriage is a critical subject that is not raised and discussed enough. There are various perspectives conveyed to the table when discussing this specific subject. The principles of society are continually evolving. One indication of this change is that nowadays many young adults seem to be interested in premarital sex. Despite the fact that I have heard numerous great arguments from individuals both pro and against sex before marriage, I have yet to change my stance on this matter. In my opinion, having sexual intercourse before getting married is absolutely a bad tendency in our society however I think it’s still acceptable in society.

Having sex can lead to some life changing situations such as undesirable pregnancy or sexual transmitted diseases. Despite the emotional and physical damage, spiritually it can damage our relationship with God, our body is a sanctuary we should treasure and take care of. In the Bible, the apostle Paul wrote by inspiration of God in his letter to the Corinthians, "Now the body is not for fornication." (I Cor. 6:13). Sex is characterized in the dictionary as “human sex other than between a man and his wife: sex between unmarried individuals.” The Lord goes further in how He feels about unmarried people and sex relations. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortions, shall inherit the kingdom of God” (Cor. 6:9 & 10). I am not against people wanting to wait until marriage, and I don’t care if people personally do not want to use contraceptives. What does bother me is when people begin to limit other people’s freedoms and expect other people to adhere to the same religious code that they themselves follow. What also bothers me is parents who refuse to talk to their children about sex and healthy sexual behaviours, because they have the naïve mindset that their kids will abstain from sex until marriage, just because they told them it’s the only way. Not only is this a disservice to their children, it’s also dangerous, as kids will not know what a healthy sexual relationship looks like, but will rather form their own ideas of what a healthy sexual relationship looks like from unreliable sources, such as pornography or the media. They will also not be properly educated on what constitutes sexual assault, and they won’t be aware about STI’s and how to properly protect oneself from them. It has been almost thirty three years since the first federal funding was put to use in “. . . sex education programs that promote abstinence-only-until-marriage to the exclusion of all other approaches . . .” according to the article “Sex education” (2010) published by “Opposing Viewpoints in Context;” a website that specializes in covering social issues. Since then a muddy controversy has arisen over whether that is the best approach. On one hand is the traditional approach of abstinence (not having sex before marriage), and on the other is the idea that what is being done is not enough, and that there needs to be a more comprehensive approach. This entails not only warning against sex, but also teaching teens about how to have “Safe Sex” (“Sex Education,” 2010).

Colleges and schools where both females and males are educated together are termed to be “coeducational.” Long previous to our modern day society, segregating male and female in education systems was considered the “norm.” During these traditionally dominant ancient times, coeducation was prevalent in Europe and the idea of integrating such unique groups became such a phenomenon. This widespread of coeducation was eventually developed in American countries and has grown to be a universally accepted mode of education. Not only was this idea “new” and “innovative,” but it also crossed the line of our ancestor’s valued practice of tradition. Although this system went against what tradition honored, this new system of education generated comradery between individuals of the opposite sex and has knowledged them of skills one was unable to exercise in a single-sex educational environment. Coeducation, being the more modern system of education, has caused single-sex systems to become more outdated and inconvenient to society’s evolving standards. Exposure to the opposite sex introduces students life skills vital to a professional workfield thus, it shows males and females the importance of maintaining a symbiotic relationship and how they benefit from one another. Schools worldwide should consider the practice of educating students of both sexes in the same educational institution to allow for opportunity for one to build character in accordance to our evolving society and acquire flexibility in social skills.
Sex education in public schools is the first of the four topics I will be discussing. This topic was a no brainer for me to choose, due to the fact that I grew up in the public and private school systems, and am able to connect my personal experiences with the opinions I hold today. Although sex education was not very prominent throughout my educational experience, I believe all students would greatly benefit from the knowledge one can acquire through a diverse sexual education experience. My first experience with sex education came in sixth grade (I’m 22), and unfortunately is the only experience I’ve had, while in the public school system. On the other hand advocates against same-sex marriage argue that it would undo long-standing traditions and change the meaning of marriage in a damaging manor. The glamorous side of sex is everywhere; music, tv shows, movies and social media. To a mature adult, it is easy to ignore the sexual messages in those outlets.
