Much like the past, females today are frowned upon for acts that males are praised for. In which, a man can go to the beach and take his shirt off, but if a woman does it she’s called names. Although, some may argue that females have breasts and men don’t; were is the equality in that? Some may believe something so little as that may be irrational, but when were men being paid more than women rational or men being allowed to have more sexual partners?
On day I was on Instagram; a popular app many people use and there was this post with a little boy having sexual relations with a grown woman. So many males commented and embraced this little boy for “smashing” as they say, his babysitter. condone a child having sexual relations with an adult, but that goes back to the fact that males have a lead way when compared to women. If we flipped that image and put a little girl and an adult male babysitter the responses would be totally different. We have to go back to where thoughts like this began. We are taught to be judgmental towards gender as children. Girls had to like pink, Powerpuff girls and Barbie’s. Boys had to like football, basketball and had to be tuff. Girls growing up were called tomboys if they liked to play ruff, which was me as a kid. Although boys weren’t called anything if the liked to play with dolls or what they liked to call “action figures”. This starts a cycle on future thoughts that are unethical because of your gender. It is still in argument that women do not get paid as much as men do.
Men have a better chance at receiving a job then women do simply because it is seen as men are workers and women are supposed to do the house work. Many people can’t accept women as leaders and the men to be followers. According to experienceproject.com only 9 women are CEOs of big companies. Men find women who make more than them or have a better job than them intimidating.
In the media men have a high upholding then women. With women its “women in politics” as if it’s uncommon. Women in politics have to fight their way to be heard when men just come in with no chaos. When a woman expresses her opinion she knowns as bossy or overbearing. If it’s a man expressing his thoughts it’s known as he is taking care of business and he is assertive.
Women still have a long way to go for us to gain the equality that we desire, which is our right. Women make so much of a difference in the world for us to be thought as, as just women. In the workplace environment it is a known fact that women are passed over for higher positions that would allow them to earn higher wages. Author of “Workplace Gender Discrimination and the Implicit Association Test" Jo- Ann Kadola stated, “Women earn 18 % less per hour than men working the same job, with the same title, with the same credentials even when a woman has a higher education.” (Kadola23) This is known as the gender gap, it happens in all occupations whether in management, directors or any high level position. Overall men and women never earn the same pay for the same job. This is known to be a worldwide fact. On every job women are always asked to prove or provide credentials for a job that men are able to obtain without proof. Kadola also stated, “Women have to show skills more often, they are required to take or be more responsible than men.” (Kadola24) Men are generally respected more. Their opinions hold more value. Men tend to have more freedom in making decisions. When it comes to merit raises they will receive a higher percentage based on the fact that they are men. ‘Boys will be boys’, a phrase coined to exonerate the entire male sex of loathsome acts past, present, and potential. But what about the female sex, if females act out of turn they are deemed ‘unladylike’ or something of the sort and scolded. This double standard for men and women dates back as far as the first civilizations and exists only because it is allowed to, because it is taught. Gender roles and cues are instilled in children far prior to any knowledge of the anatomy of the sexes. This knowledge is learned socially, culturally, it is not innate. And these characteristics can vary when the environment one is raised in differs from the norm. Child rearing and cultural factors play a large role in how individuals act and see themselves.
In today’s society it appears to be that both genders have certain traditional roles. We see these things every day, everywhere one goes, and even on television. Women have always been known to be the weaker gender. They are the ones who shouldn’t hve a real paying job. According to men, the womens “job” is to sit at home all day doing chorse such as cooking, cleaning, washing, and taking care of everyone else. Men are known to be the strong gender, “The Boss.” Women and men have stereotype gender roles. Women are as strong, if not stronger than me. They are capable of doing the same things men do.
The first reason for gender inequality is income disparities. The reason for income disparities is because men are getting more median wage than women. Women are often paid less for the same thing as men only because they are women. So the realization had once been deliberately chosen less high paying careers than men. Some of these jobs would be secretarial, clerical to explain why men in a particular company would make more money than a women in the same company. That may have been true once, but no longer that way in today’s economy. Now that more women are holding mid-level management jobs the career choices by men are ambitions to women’s pay disparities.
Sexism is a major factor in the workforce.Today male and female have a hard time breaking into the opposite gender dominated fields. This has happened because of the media, it has showed us that male have certain “right” jobs, as well as female. Female still dominate traditional female professions like cosmetology jobs are 92.9 percent women working them(Wolfe). If a man were to get into cosmetology they would most likely be judged for having that job, because we stereotype that they can't have a feminine job. Women have a harder time getting into high level positions. “Women make up only 21 of the S&P’s 500 CEOs,” (Berman). This has happened because the media has set in place stereotypes that it is wrong for women to have high level positions. It is getting better, in 2013 women chief financial officers increased 35 percent at large U.S. companies from 2012 (Frier and Hymowitz). The job market for men and women is still unfair but it is starting to get equal.
Men are traditionally seen as being in the "supervisor" position in the home. They are the heads of the household, the breadwinners, and the women are behind the scenes, like the threads that hold everything together. The same can be said about the workplace. Men tend to hold administrative positions, while women usually have the positions that support the administrator. They are the secretaries and assistants that do the work for their male bosses and prepare things for them that later on only the administrator may receive credit for. How can men and women be different? Everyone knows that there are some significant differences between males and females, even if those difference are physical appearances only. Others see both physical and social differences, emotional and intellectual differences between male and female. Gender roles, by definition, are the social norms that dictate what is socially appropriate for male and female behavior. In earlier times, American culture showed that it was common for women 's job to be a homemaker contrary to the males’ breadwinner role.

Objectification is seeing and treating a person as if they did not have thoughts and feelings, as if they had the status of an object.{1} Only in recent years have they begun to be seen as individuals of equal intelligence and ability. You may think, ”Women have had equal rights for a while. There 's this idea that femininity has been reconstructed males are more valued than females. These generalizations of gender the men or women are taught child usually from parents and teachers or someone older. Society has expectations from women and male. Men women are portrayed as to have emotions be more sensitive week and need someone to depend on. Men are taught at a young age to not show emotions, they have to be a leader, and be stronger than women are.
