Introduction The United States has developed a history for being pro-firearms and implementing this through the Second Amendment. In the recent years, gun violence has been on the rise in the U.S. and more specifically, gun violence within schools. This increase has concerned society and has introduced different solutions that could help with the increase. President Donald Trump has developed a solution by which allows for teachers in schools to carry concealed weapons within their respective schools (Saul, S. 2018). This has led to the argument of should schools allow for faculty and staff to conceal carry on school grounds. This essay will examine the issues as to why faculty and staff should not carry firearms within schools, while also acknowledging the opposing argument as to why teachers should conceal carry.

Their job is to provide an education to the children and young adults within the schools. A former high school assistant principal, Joel Myrick, who was able to detain a school gunman with his Colt .45 pistol in 1997 (Saul, S. 2018). Although Mr. Myrick used his firearm to control the gunman, he has a firm stance that teachers should not carry firearms. He states that “Teachers have to teach, and that’s what they should be doing”, however, Mr. Myrick does believe that providing trained personnel within schools could be a foreseeable option to counter gun violence within schools (Saul, S. 2018). Teachers are not trained to carry firearms, they are trained to educate, therefore, providing training to retired law enforcement or similar personnel would be a more effective way to protect students and staff in
