What if musicians stopped making music? What if directors stopped making movies? What if game developers ceased to exist? If you illegally download your show, songs, and games, you need to legitimately consider these possibilities. You see, pirating music and videos directly impedes the progress of both you and the creators. Buying media legally supports creators, keeps you out of jail- for this particular offense, anyway- and said entertainment mediums usually aren’t extremely expensive. Have you taken the time to ponder the countless hours that go into creating one 2-3 minute song? Ask any composer; most won’t say they came up with their best work in an afternoon. Many a night is spent hunched over a keyboard, guitar, and/or microphone; for films, cameras, lights, and sets; for games, computers and drawing boards. Do they do this for nothing in return? Despite creating their works to spread their beliefs, ideas, and thoughts to the world, artists, developers, and screenwriters still have to eat and pay their bills- preferrably by making back all the money they spent during their periods of arduous labor. If you’re pirating the music, game, or film, then you must enjoy it- don’t you want to be courteous to the creator(s) that brought it into the world? You can’t do this while ‘stealing’ the files off the ‘Net. …show more content…
If you can’t afford to legally download a relatively cheap song, you shouldn’t be worrying about stealing it in the first place. For all of the time put into composing a score, on iTunes, they usually don’t exceed $1.29 in price. If I was at such a lack of money, I’d be more focused on staying nourished and maintaining the heating bill so I won’t freeze to death rather than stealing a form of electronic entertainment. The cost is a small price to pay that will ensure that the creators continue their work and can sustain
Singers and songwriters need to make a living somehow. They know that downloading music is a way to get their voice heard, but they also know that it is significantly hurting the business. "When your product is being regularly stolen, there comes a time when you have to take appropriate action," said RIAA president Cary Sherman (RIAA 1). There are a lot of people involved in the music scheme when it comes to who needs to get paid by the revenue. From the sale of one CD, singers get one small fraction of the cost, another fraction goes to song writers, musicians also get some of the profit along with retailers, engineers, technicians, warehouse working, and ever...
In all, people should be prosecuted for downloading music illegally. Stealing is stealing and there is no other way to put it. Whether it's in a file or in your physical possession there is no difference between the two. People are losing their jobs and money due to the ignorance of people downloading illegal music files. The people know they are stealing and it should be stopped for smaller fees or shorter jail time. People need to be prosecuted for their
Should it be Allowed? Suppose an artist or band sold their music to a record label or landed a deal with a company. Should this be allowed? Artists’ music should be used in advertising. It offers smaller artists a chance for their music to get heard by a wider audience and it is accepted nowadays for bands and artists to put their music in commercials or promote products for sponsors.
Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “Without music, life would be a mistake”. Music is almost as old as the human race and is as much a part of it as anything. So why would anyone choose to get rid of it? An Increasing number of schools across the nation are deciding to cut music education programs. This includes band, orchestra, choir, and general music classes. In 1991, 55.4 percent of public school eighth-graders took part in music classes at school. In 2004, this figure was just 49.1 percent. Money plays a huge role in this statistic: “...when funds are scarce, arts courses are usually the first to be dropped from a school’s curriculum” (“Arts Education”). While many argue that music education is an unnecessary cost for schools, it improves student’s overall well being.
Physical piracy-the copying and illegal sale of hard-copy CDs, videotapes, and DVDs-costs the music industry over $4 billion a year worldwide and the movie industry more than $3.5 billion. These numbers do not factor in the growing (and difficult to measure) problem of Internet piracy, in which music and movies are transferred to digital format and copies are made of the resulting computer file. Journalist Charles C. Mann explains why Internet piracy has the potential to be vastly more damaging to copyright industr...
Besides the obvious ethical and legal issues there are other problems that many people have to deal with because of piracy. Along with any illegally downloaded material you also run the risk of exposing your computers to dangerous viruses, malware, spyware, or other unwanted software, all of these can cause your computer to run more slowly and possibly crash this can lead to costly computer repairs, loss of irreplaceable files, and in the worst cases identity theft.
The music industry started in the mid 18th century with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Through the decades there has been a great increase in this industry; however, the revenues for this industry have declined by half in the last 10 years. This has been caused by music piracy, which “is the copying and distributing of copies of a piece of music for which the composer, recording artist, or copyright-holding record company did not give consent” . After 1980’s, when the Internet was released to public, people started to develop programs and websites in which they could share music, videos, and information with...
Many people take an advantage of Freedom of speech in their music. Rappers and rocker often does this in their albums and playlist. They use violent words that’s not protected by The First Amendment. Many of them uses violent phrases that can offend most listeners. Offensive music should be banned.
As said by lead vocalist of the band Disturbed, David Draiman, “What exactly does freedom mean if I’m not free to be as twisted as I want to be”(Disturbed). We live in a world where being yourself is repressed and where our musical fix is known as violent or self- damaging, but how true is that? It has been shown that music can be a positive influence on society through assistance with difficult emotions, giving attention to modern day issues, and helping individuals find themselves. Emotions are hard to understand and usually leave most people lost and confused. In times of turmoil, music has been known to alleviate those feelings.
Music is one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the world. It is difficult to find someone who does not listen to some genre of music. In fact, music is so popular that there are currently over twenty six billion songs on iTunes (Neumayr), with over thirty five billion songs sold as of last year. That comes out to around five songs for every living person in the world. It is believable to say that almost every person in the world has been exposed to some form of music throughout their life.
Try to think of music as you, standing at the foot of a massive mountain with its daunting rock pile keeping you down. Being done with your efforts after just climbing the hill is a much worse option than taking on the mountain, pushing through all of your doubts, and, nevertheless, making sure that the final result is as perfect as you want it to be. An integral part of art to the available arts to kids, and, nevertheless, people in general, is music, however, people can’t seem to think of it that way. People criticize music as a distraction or just something to talk about with their friends, when music is a form of art that has layers upon layers of depth. However, recently music has been extremely underdeveloped and, moreover, has statistically
As explained above, illegal downloading is a great problem affecting the entertainment industry and could soon be an even bigger problem for consumers. Downloading copyrighted material illegally is just as unlawful as stealing from a store or someone’s personal item. To prevent shutting down businesses and industries, internet pirates must be stopped and actively sought after. So if one is downloading material illegally take in to mind what harm it can do to and who is being hurt in the process. Free does not mean that it’s moral or fine; one must analyze and see the consequences of such actions before they continue—otherwise, it could be the end of something great because people were stealing and driving companies out of business, with no force stopping them.
Moreover, hackers came up with new ways to remove the digital copyrights so the same as before one downloads music and distributes them around. The industry gets its revenue from selling this content, whether it’s online or in stores, this funds new projects and allows for better products in the future. The public should be aware of this, downloading the content for free, and not buying it will decrease revenue for the companies, stopping them from undertaking future projects. “Production companies should lower the price on their products, I can’t buy music for at least 20$ per album and DVDs for 30$, I only make 200$ per month,” said George Issa, a music fan who spends most of his nights downloading music from the internet, “when there is an album or movie that I really like, I try to buy it legally, I don’t think I am doing anything wrong, they are wrong making money off our backs,” he added.
Illegal downloading can also be known as piracy. Piracy is defined as stealing a piece of music in which the composer or recording artist did not give consent for. It is the stealing of music from people such as songwriters, musicians, record label employees, and everyone else who put hard work into it. There are some people who see no problem with downloading music from the Internet but it presents three main problems. The first problem is that the music will mostly likely not have g...
...e songs for free? With things like music, these rules of copyright are seldom followed. Many times, music is not distributed with the artist’s permission. The artist’s song, or even album, will often get leaked on a website before the actual album or song gets released by the artist. It connects back to one of the issues with the Internet when it comes to copyright infringement. Often times, people will try to alter the voice, beat, or tempo of a song to protect themselves from a lawsuit for copyright infringement. This can be risky, however, because artists may try and argue how the song lyrics are still theirs, even if the beat is altered slightly. Music downloaders like iTunes are better at protecting the rights of artists, because they require listeners to purchase the music they want to listen to. This helps out a lot when lawsuits could very much get involved.
