4 DAY VS 5 DAY BY JOSH BEHNKE 1ST HOUR What would happen if Springfield High School went to a four day week instead of five day? The four days would have to be eight hours instead of seven to make up for only going to school four days. It is a fine idea you may think, but will it triumph? If Springfield where to try this they would save money. The district would be saving money on food. You may be thinking will my child's grade suffer? No, Many schools have switched and grades were the same and students god better grades in math. Peach county and Georgia tried a four day school week and the only thing that happened was they saved money, test scores went up, less absences, and a higher graduation rate. The four day school was thought of
While growing up, I attended a traditional school. This is a schooling method many individuals are probably familiar with. A student attends school for nine months out of the year, and then has a three month break during the summer. However, in my immediate hometown surroundings, nearby traditional schools are assessing the idea of transforming into year-round schools. Year round schooling is one subject debated in high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools nationwide. Are schools that operate 365 days a year academically better than traditional schools? What are the cost differences between the two? How would a year-round school effect families? Changing the schooling technique from traditional to year-round has numerous variables that need to be taken into consideration before any grade school or secondary education institution fully commits. Year-round schooling schedules should not be implemented and traditional schooling calendars should be maintained.
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
A four day weekend gives everyone a day off, including most of the staff, which means that the school doesn’t have to pay certain staff one day, which means the school saves money. With one day without school, the district doesn't have to transport students to and from school, which saves money on gas. With one day times 32 weeks, that adds up to a
Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. In conclusion, the four-day school week has proven itself to be a very effective form of education that Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to within the coming
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.
“Hence you see why “liberal studies” are so called; it is because they are studies worthy of a free- born gentlemen. But there is only one really liberal study – that which gives a man his liberty. It is the study of wisdom”, said Lucius Annaeus Seneca, the Roman Stoic philosopher who lived during the time of Jesus Christ. Historically speaking, learning liberal arts we learn ourselves to be passionate, loyal, brave and what is more important, generous. The word “freedom” has been the fundamental component of any American Dream. Today we celebrate our nation’s independence and allowance to govern ourselves.
“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
Overall, schools with a four-day school week have major benefits dealing with all kind of problems. Not only will a four-day school week improve financial concerns, stress and attendance, but it will also encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities . School District 211 should consider all of these benefits and make the switch to a four day school
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Four day school week will benefit the school’s financial system. Schools will save money by not having a fifth day of school. Studies say that, “In rural areas, where transportation is considerable expense, running buses for fewer days leads to significant savings” (Media Finances). Most schools have students that live farther away, not in town. With an extra day off, the buses will save on gas and maintenance. Think of how much money schools would save! With four days of school, schools will save on pay for janitors, utilities, and electricity. “Districts also cut down on custodial pay, heating expenditures, food costs, and utility bills” (Media Finance). Not only does the school save money, the teachers will save time and money by having a four day school week. “Teachers often still work five days, with the extra day devoted to
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
The issue of whether selective schools justly divide students from their peers has been on debate since NSW Education Minister Rob Stoke recently mentioned he would like to open selective schools to local students. In response to the issue, Rachael Jacobs argues that selective schools segregate children unfairly in her online publication published January 13, 2018, “End the selective school obsession.” Accompanied by a photograph, Grace Leung contends that selective schools allow talented and disadvantaged students to reach their full potential in her alternative view published 10 days later, “We’d all miss out if selective schools were discontinued.” Immediately establishing selective schools as “equitable” and “unethical,” Jacobs aggressively uses loaded language coupled with the question, “why is NSW obsessed with [selective
In Oklahoma, their school district’s are cutting schools sessions to four days of the week instead of five days a week. Cutting School down to four days a week can be bad for the students. It can lead to students not learning information that can help them further on in their lives. Also, an extra day off of school can lead to children doing more crime.
