Ever need an extra day off from school? Schools need four day school weeks. Studies show that a four day school week is actually beneficial to students and teachers. The schools will save money. There is extra time for students and teachers, believe it or not. Also, academic achievement is actually better! Four day school weeks are beneficial for everyone.
Four day school week will benefit the school’s financial system. Schools will save money by not having a fifth day of school. Studies say that, “In rural areas, where transportation is considerable expense, running buses for fewer days leads to significant savings” (Media Finances). Most schools have students that live farther away, not in town. With an extra day off, the buses will save on gas and maintenance. Think of how much money schools would save! With four days of school, schools will save on pay for janitors, utilities, and electricity. “Districts also cut down on custodial pay, heating expenditures, food costs, and utility bills” (Media Finance). Students actually gain more time to work in the classroom with four day school weeks. “The lost day, spread out over the fours days, result only in about 10 extra minutes per class period. It is also pointed out that students have extra time to complete homework and do projects over the extended weekend” (Alliance). Not only do teachers get extra time on that fifth day, so do the students. The students get to work on homework or projects that never seem to get done at school.
