Are People Good At Heart? There are billions of people in the world of varying race, age and gender. That interact peacefully everyday under multiple circumstances. However, there is a big question that needs to be answered: Are people really good at heart? Anne Frank believed that all people are good at heart, despite the circumstances that she was in during the extent of World War II. By dictionary definition holocaust is destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war. During World War II the mass destruction of an entire population caused the entire world to question the goodness of people. Regardless of his power there was still a small sum of people who undermined him and helped the people in need. This help came in multiple ways individually or through an organization. For those who did not escape or get help in time there were soldiers who would have a good enough heart to help. In One Survivor Remembers there is an example of family members helping family. It was April at the time and the girls dad told her to put on her snow boots knowing they would help her later(Antholis). The evidence here shows that family was always there for you with goodness in their hearts. Another example from this source is the woman who oversaw the prisoners helped her survive by giving her food, “I personally am indebted to her for my own life”(Antholis). This is an example of a member of the Nazi party undermining what she is told for the greater good. When the captors left the prisoners to die in a warehouse help was not far away. The men came and found these frail bird like figures standing there without food and a small amount of water. Kurt Klein was one of the soldiers who liberated the remaining women and married Gerta (Antholis). This example shows the power of being liberated and how their is good in everybody Kurt saw Gerta at her worst and they found love and goodness in each other enough to share a life together. In Markus Zusak The Book Thief there are several examples of the strength in friendship and the power of the human will to survive. Max a Jew on the brink of being deported is saved by his friend a Nazi soldier. When Max is in hiding his friend brings him some vital nutrients to survive (Zusak 140). This act shows that no matter what your closest friends are always there and will help you with an open heart. When Hans and Rosa take in Max they are not thinking about their dwindling food supply and minescule income they are thinking about saving a life (Zusak 186). With the arrival of Max Liesel found a life long friend who supported her and helped her through the hard times. When Max leaves and gets captured he is sent on a march through the streets when him and Liesel reunite they are overcome with joy (Zusak 510). This joy of reuniting gives Max hope and knowledge that their is someone waiting for him as soon as the war is over. To sum up the paragraph the kindness within multiple throughout the text a life was saved as well as a lifelong friend
