Why are humans killing the blue whales? That is exactly a question I asked myself when I read a magazine at school for a project, and I discovered how the blue whales are endangered because of humans, and I also discovered amazing facts about Blue Whales. They are a really large animals, if you see a blue whale it is like to see a giant dinosaur, they eat krill that is like a shrimp, have you seen how smalls shrimps are? From their sizes blue whale should eat like millions to be full. Humans should be more respectful towards the ocean, because they are contaminating the blue whales environment, hunting them for commercial purposes and causing ships strikes with the whales.
First of all, the human contamination to the blue whales environment is one of the reason they are endanger. According to the article "Human's impact on the oceans" states that "Remember that all oceans of the world interconnect so anything out in one ocean could conceivably end up anywhere on Earth", humans disposed almost all of their trash into the ocean like oils, chemicals, etc. For example, if you go in a cruise have you ever ask yourself what do they do with all the waste, like food and toilet water? All of these gets pulverized and thrown overboard. Another example is, that a couple of years ago

In the article found on the website of the "International Whaling Commission" indicates that "ship strike are an international problem that requires improved knowledge of behavior and movements of cetaceans and vessels". I think that while the number of ships increases in the ocean and due to the big size of the blue whales there are more possibility to have a ship strike when the whales can be injured or die. For example: a ship strike will be similar to a car accident, sometimes the people could survive to the injury but is most possible that they die
Family therapy is often needed when families go through transitions such as separations between parents and divorce. According to research, “the power of family therapy derives from bringing parents and children together to transform their interactions” (Nichols, & Davis, p.18), as problems need to be addressed at their source. The children who are the most vulnerable, when parents decide to separate, exhibit symptoms which are exaggerations of their parent’s problems (Nichols, & Davis, p.18). Frank and Walt Berkman are the examples of how children cope and adapt to the stressors of family separations such as marital separations and
“… building a tank the size of Rhode Island wouldn’t be large enough for a six-ton male killer whale such as Tilikum, an animal capable of swimming 100 miles a day,” states an anonymous whale expert. Whales have been in captivity since 1861 when P.T. Barnum displayed the first live whale that was captured in Canada. However, Barnum had no idea how to care for the mammal and it died after only a week in captivity. (Animal Legal and Historical Center, 2014) Being up close with killer whales could give us some clues about how they interact with each other, including physical behavior, their dialect, and how their pods work together as a family unit. However, what we are finding is that whales who belong in the wild are suffering in captivity. Killer whales have no record of ever harming a human being in the wild. In captivity, there have been many incidents of killer whales harming or even killing their trainers. What would cause them to do this in captivity, but not in the wild? They have been known to resort to aggression toward themselves and each other, in what scientist believe to be a stress induced behavior. (Animal Legal and Historical Center, 2014) Evidence against having these wild animals in captivity is increasing and we need reevaluate the value of capturing and holding killer whales for our educational purposes, enjoyment, and profit.
As an act of frustration, they take their teeth and rake other whales’ bodies. They would be covered head to tail with rake marks. Park guests would sometimes recall that during shows they could see blood, due to severe rake marks
Whales living in captivity become aggravated and have been known to take out anger on themselves by self harming. In the pools they live in, metal bars are placed in between the pools to prevent the killer whales from swimming to another pool. On several occurrences, the whales have attempted to bite and break the metal bars. This leaves the whales with broken teeth and a risk of infection. Infections in killer whales can lead to death in many cases. If a whale gets an infection, they have to be taken out of the pool and placed into another pool by themselves to prevent any problems with other killer whales they live with. In many cases, whales with infections need serious care from whale specialists.
An English naturalist Charles Darwin (1802-1882) developed a theory of biological evolution. He studied variation in plants and animals during his five years’ voyage around the world in the 19th century. Darwin studied hundreds of species, which he researches variations between locations. His theory states that all species of organism arise and develop through natural selection. Natural selection is the process of organisms that adapt to their surrounding environment, which tend to survive and produce more offspring. Killer whales are remarked to have evolutionary links from land dwelling organisms, millions of years ago. This paper will display the evolution and natural selection of the killer whale.
Jerry Adler in the article, Why Killer Whales Belong In The Ocean Not Seaworld suggests that seaworld trainers needs to let the whales stay in the ocean where they belong, and don't mess with them at all, because if you bring them to seaworld they are just going to want to get to know you then after a while they may kill you.
... be thrown away in this country. This fact is sad but true, and the sooner people realize that there money is what is funding the advancement of the sea world entertainment industry the sooner hope can be built in keeping these animals where they belong. Despite the controlled environments for killer whales, these environments cause psychological and social problems to the animals and are worse than nature. The ethical option is clearly to let nature take its course and leave a similarly intelligent species carry out its business the way it always has. The business side of this dilemma will continue to boom until the public refuses to be a part of the entertainment aspect of it. And without the funding from the general tax payers to keep the programs and parks alive, the outside world might become a little closer to an extra-terrestrial from a world within our own.
How would you feel if your mother was murdered directly in front of you and you were only a few weeks old and you did not know how to fend for yourself? That's what these poacher are doing of these whales. They look for mother with fairly new calves because it means they have more fat on them. The more fat the more oil they produce which makes for more money. In Greenland they kill at most ten whales a year. While in Japan they kill five hundred and thirty to seven hundred
Looking at Figure C, we can say more than 200,000 blue whales has been killed as results of overhunting. In 1966, the International Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling for blue whales, but illegal hunting still occurs (NOAA). While blue whales are no longer being threatened by overhunting, their population is drastically depleted. Like many other marine species, blue whales are being harm by many others factors today. This include collisions of ships, chemical pollution such as oil spills, and noise pollution from vessels (Eco). The population of blue whales is known to be around “10,000 to 25,000 ” (World Wild Life).
...nd also the earth. If whales become extinct then there could be a rapid increase of small aquatic animals that could harm the marine food chain then further kill marine ecosystems. This is because whales help regulate the flow of food by helping to maintain a stable food chain.
However, they are taking advantage of their presence for interests some people like the “Sea world” and how they make entertainment shows as well as education especially for children, and learn to appreciate the animal as well and about its environment. In addition, some of the searching people they can not do research for those animals while they are in sea because it will be hard for them to find each kinde of them in wild place like sea, but in the captivity they will find it easier for them to research. On the other hand, Other people see it differently of what the others do of how keeping the Whales or other kind of animals in captivity. For example, Whales in the wild are free ranging and can easily move from one group to another. The sea is especially to the whales as the air is to birds as we know, we can not put the birds in water and make them a life because each one of the animals created to be in their own environment only. Whales need that environment is to be free and can move up and down and side to side in the sea. The very nature of these animals makes them unique in the
One must also take into account the nature of blue whales. Dolphins, orcas and sperm whale are gregarious, social animals by default. However, blue whales live solitary lifestyles. This might be 52’s preferred style of
Therefore, whaling nations such as Japan should be regulated for how many and what types of whales they can hunt. However, critics argue that the whaling culture could disappear if hunting whales can not be done. But, Japanese fearful culture and psych drove the whales’ decline. In addition, the Japanese whaling companies deceiving ploy to hunt whales “in the name of science” was completely untrue. Now, will more whales in the Arctic ocean die, or will we reach a
One of the biggest arguments for banning whaling is that it is pushing several species towards extinction. According to Greenpeace, the blue whales of the Antarctic are at less than 1% of their previous numbers. West Pacific grey whale is on the edge of extinction with only over 100 remaining, and humpback whales that were previously numbered to be 1.5 million prior to commercial whaling are now only left with 20,000 (Greenpeace, 2014). Other than the obliteration of a species, whales stabilize several food chains and ecosystems within an aquatic environment. Whales can consume 40 million krill everyday (Whalefacts.org, 2014)so the ex...
Many marine mammal species like the whales are nearing extinction due to many activities performed by humans. If we continue to hunt, pollute and interfere with the nature and marine mammals’ natural habitat then the day is not far when we are going to see whales and other mammals in pictures and videos rather than in their natural abodes. Small changes in our lifestyle can make a huge change in the life of many of our cohabiting living creatures, discouraging the use of stuff made out of whale skin, reducing the usage of plastic, trying to do our part in reducing the greenhouse gases etc. will help a lot in making a change on the planet we are dwelling. If we continue to do what we are doing, our planet may not look Green and Blue from the space anymore.
