Even some people think that the captivity is benefit for Whales in pit of reason, but others people think differently because it has consequences more than benefits. Some people think if they put the Whales in captivity will help them because as we know the sea exposed to pollution by some of ships transport that has oil tanker and factory pollution that they throw poisons items in the sea, and this will affect most of them and will lead them to death. Other reason is if they got sick or anything that will affect their health nobody will know what will happen to them until they put them in other small safe place to check and medicate them to protect them. Also, the upbringing for those kind of animals in captivity might be the only way to save an endangered species. …show more content…
Other people think selfishly because they only reason is to keep them in captivity is profits. Money is always the root of all evil, and is the reason that these animals are kept the way they are now.
However, they are taking advantage of their presence for interests some people like the “Sea world” and how they make entertainment shows as well as education especially for children, and learn to appreciate the animal as well and about its environment. In addition, some of the searching people they can not do research for those animals while they are in sea because it will be hard for them to find each kinde of them in wild place like sea, but in the captivity they will find it easier for them to research. On the other hand, Other people see it differently of what the others do of how keeping the Whales or other kind of animals in captivity. For example, Whales in the wild are free ranging and can easily move from one group to another. The sea is especially to the whales as the air is to birds as we know, we can not put the birds in water and make them a life because each one of the animals created to be in their own environment only. Whales need that environment is to be free and can move up and down and side to side in the sea. The very nature of these animals makes them unique in the
wild. As we know whales live in large groups called pods, and each of them has Family bonds, and often they bond for many years, but some of them last for a lifetime and that bond help them protect from other species in sea. We know that the Whales from large animals and could be hard for putting them in small cage. It might make them suffer from captivity stresses and will lower their resistance, and tend to be more aggressive behavior and make them more susceptible to disease. That will making their life in danger more of what they were in the wild. In addition, as they shows in Blackfish movie of how they hunting the small Whales from their moms then putting them in captivity, and how they most of Whales are getting hurt by the way that people bring them in captivity. In film also shows how people got hurt from those animals if they got frustrated. Most of trainers die by those Whales because nobody know what they think or what they want. Once the trenner practice the Whales to present in good way to the audience when they live or got traded in terrible ways, nobody know if they treated them in good or bad way. Releasing any animal from wild life it not always a successful alternative for them. In concluding, These are some reasons about how people see that captivity for Whales or other animal is benefit for them and protecting them in many ways. However, that other people think that differently because they think that captivity it's hurting them instead of helping them.
Seaworld is a giant marine life theme park. The greatest attraction to these many theme park would be those killer whales. In fact, these killer whales are the face of the park. As gigant as these mammals are, seaworld is keeping them in some pretty tight quarters. Mr. Jett and Mr.Ventre says “Wild killer whales can swim a hundred miles daily as they socialize, forage, communicate, and breed. In stark contrast, with little horizontal or vertical space in their enclosures, captive orcas swim only limited distances, with most spending many hours surface resting.” The animals don't have the freedom they need. Also when taking the whales out of their natural habit the whales tend to be depressed and not as heath in that situation. They need their freedom in the big ocean blue. Bring them into the small living units, breeding whales in captivity all for the entertainment of humans. At young ages the calves are taken away from their mothers on to a new seaworld park. Mothers of the calves have even been seen denying their offspring.
Since whales are normally peaceful in the wild and they only seem to attack while in captivity, the argument is that captivity is wrong and dangerous for killer whales. This argument is supported by detailed facts about how the whales are tortured and agitated by other whales with no outlet. Both female and male whales are confined to a swimming pool where they are in a way being forced to try and mate. The female whales tend to abuse the male whales, which leads the whales to become mentally and physically unhealthy resulting in attacks on trainer. In the interviews with Corinne Cowell and Nadine Kallen, they mentioned that when they visited Sealand of the Pacific that three whales were confined to a “dingy pool”. Another appeal to pathos is when a neurologist that has studied killer whales mentions how the animals are very intelligent and are well-aware of what is going on around them. (SeaWorld) Killer whales have similar brains to humans, but have a bigger part of their brain where emotions are processed. With this, whales are more aware of their emotions and the bonds they make with humans and other animals. (SeaWorld) With the huge amount of raw footage, first-hand accounts, and true information, the film is able to grasp the attention of the viewers with the amount of emotion that is shown from the former trainers and the whales themselves. With these tactics, the film effectively appeals to the
The captivity of large, wild animals is accepted for theme parks all around the world. Tickets are sold for people to come and watch these animals live and even preform in an exhibit that almost resembles their natural environment. It is impossible for parks and zoos that use animals as attractions to provide the same resources and space they would have in the habitat they are usually found in. They can, however, help injured or ill animals that cannot survive in the wild. This is where I believe they should draw the line for keeping animals in captivity. SeaWorld has gotten a lot of attention in the last few years, especially since the Netflix documentary, Blackfish, was released. This film targets the company for the mistreatment of their orca whales. In particular, it told the story of one named Tilikum and shows the problems he and the other orca whales face while living under the care of SeaWorld. Gabriela Cowperthwaite, the director
Second reason why they shouldn’t be kept in a captivity. You can’t recreate on orcas natural environment. The pods sea world cannot hold 40 or more whales which are usually in a pod. If it holds 40 orcas they will make more babies and after their gonna be so much whales and the water won’t hold that much whales. Because whales are the size of bus school and is just like 40 bus
Millions of people come from across the world to visit Seaworld every day without thinking about the lives of the animals behind the scenes. Why would they have concerns? From Seaworld’s commercials to the website, they convince the general public that Seaworld is the place to go to see the happy sea animals perform. If Seaworld is such an ecstatic place, what excuse does Tilikum, their greatest well known orca whale, have for the three attacks on trainers? The documentary “Blackfish” was created by the director Gabriela Cowperthwaite because she questioned herself after realizing Tilikum's odd behavior over time in captivity, and if there was any indisputable parts to animal captivity?
"Imagine if the world you lived in, the space you breathed in, and the freedom you played in were suddenly taken away from you." (Free Willy)
Should killer whales be kept in captivity? Killer whales are mammals that travel in schools. These mammals eat large fish, seals, and even other whales. Killer whales can be dangerous, and are really big animals. When looking at all the evidence about killer whales in SeaWorld, laws and actions need to be enforced with this dangerous activity.
Currently, live whale performances have become well liked for tourists to visit. When they are there, they only see what they want to see and do not care or want to know all about the complications the whales go through just to make people smile. The documentary “Blackfish” exposes the truth about the whales, their habits, and why they act the manner they do when in captivity. The inhumane treatment of whales in captivity causes negative effects on the animals which, in turn, affects the humans who care for them.
Orca whales do not like to be taken from their family, held captive for many decades and put with other whales that they do not know. No other living organism on this planet would like to be put through the same thing. Orca whales are highly social animals, they are very intelligent, and are very emotional. If they are kept away from other whales, fed intermittently and received little attention from staff makes them get very emotional and can lead to death of people and the whales. Orca whales should not be held captive; they are beautiful creatures that are not great for people’s amusement and if they are treated poorly, they will act poorly.
Captivity is a term that has a range of definitions. The least restrictive would be an enclosed area that attempts to meet the physical social, physical, and medical needs of these animals. The most restrictive provide limited area for movement, social interaction, and does not provide needed regular medical attention. When referring to dialect in killer whales we are talking abo...
Captivity is the state or period of being imprisoned, confined, or enslaved, according to Wiktionary. Every year, marine parks and aquariums, like SeaWorld, make billions of dollars through ticket sales. SeaWorld estimates about 70% of their total revenue is due to their performing killer whales (Jeffs). People visit from all over the world to encounter killer whales up close. “Their beauty and power, combined with willingness to work with humans, have made them legendary performers” (Gorman). In recent years, humans have gained the ability to tame and train these creatures. Killer whales should not be kept in captivity simply because it is cruel, unnatural, and dangerous.
In the documentary “Blackfish” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite says “That once you put a killer whale in captivity the dorsal fin will deflate.” This shows that putting animals in captivity can damage their health. It could also make them aggressive.
A total of 61 orca whales are held in captivity in SeaWorld today, I think that orca whales should not be held in captivity because many of the orca whales have short lifespan when they are held captivate. Orca whales are also separated from their family. Captivity related stress can also lead to aggressive behavior that may endanger professionals as well as visitors. Some people argue that captivity protects animals from being harmed or hunt for commercial-hunting. While people who are against captivity argue that there is a lack of space because orca whales are big ocean animals and need a lot of space to swim around in and the
Animals should not be kept in captivity for any reason unless they have been harmed and need to receive treatment, but they should be released as soon as they are healthy and capable of taking care of themselves again. The use of a captive animal for research, education, or entertainment is just wrong; no creature deserves to have their life taken away for our benefit. Would you want to be captured and put in a tiny box, or a fake little ecosystem, or abused and tortured because apparently that’s the only possible way to train an animal? How about just knowing that your real life is over and now all you get to do is put on a show for people? That is what we put these animals through for our entertainment, we tear children away from their parents.
The reasons that animals are held in captivity could favor some people and others not. Animals in captivity are usually held for entertainment, education, research, and conservation purposes. The other major reason they are held in captive is the process of rehabilitation. The article, Ethical Issues, defines rehabilitation as the treatment of wild animals found injured or ill, taken into captivity until restored to full health and then returned to the wild. Then when the animal is released they are then able to live freely in their own habitat. Although this may lead to suffering and stress or even death for the animal. The animal is so dependent on their caretaker that once they are put into the wild they do poorly (1).
