Van Halen took heavy metal to new heights. After more than two decades of playing sold-out concert halls, selling millions of albums and enduring various lineup changes and solo projects, Van Halen is recognized as one of the most resilient and successful rock bands to emerge from the 1970s and continue into the 1980’s. Eddie and Alex Van Halen were raised in Pasadena, the children of Dutch immigrants who immigrated to California in 1967. The Van Halen brothers grew up taking classical piano lessons. Eddie played guitar and Alex played the drums as teenagers. In 1974, they hooked up with David Lee Roth (vocals) and Michael Anthony (bass), while gigging around town in their band Mammoth. Within a few years, they had become one of the most popular bands on the Los Angeles scene. Fans packed L.A.'s smoky rock clubs to check out Eddie's unconventional guitar riffs and Roth's over-the-top showmanship.

1993 was a very busy year. They got a contract from Trent Reznor's new own label Nothing and got a spot on NIN's 94 tour. The making of their first album, "Portrait of an American Family", was underway. Trent Reznor was the producer of the album.
Throughout their years at the top they were shrouded in mystery and intrigue, and seemed to leave behind a trail of question marks wherever they went. They were not a “public” band (they didn’t hire a publicist until their 9th US tour, almost five years after their formation!); they continually distanced themselves from the media, instead relying on word of mouth and their often-astounding live performances to promote themselves. Not surprisingly, this low profile led to wild rumors about their lifestyles and habits and as a result little was known about the men behind the music.
Named after the neighborhood they all came from, they were at the first Sex Pistol shows, quickly realizing that could be them.
... in Amityville in 2009 when they opened for Rise Against. Dan Campbell, the singer, gave everyone a free copy of their album just to get their name out there. They are now at the peak of the pop punk genre by selling thousands of albums, playing the main stage at Warped Tour and headlining a show at Best Buy Theater this April. Bands that make this sacrifice and eventually make it to a successful level deserve the natural rush music gives them.
Twenty One Pilots is a band originating in Columbus, Ohio, formed by two people, Tyler Joseph, singer, songwriter, and ukulele player, and Josh Dun, drummer. Although the band only has two people in it, they have hundreds of thousands of fans from around the world, selling out their most recent tour, Blurryface Tour, out in seconds. When blindly looking at Macbeth and Twenty One Pilots, one may not be able notice any similar traits considering the first is a play written in 1606, and the other is a band that originated in 2009; both are completely different in form and are from contrasting eras. Despite these differences, the well-known Shakespearean play, Macbeth, and the band, Twenty One Pilots, share similar messages involving manipulation, the need for power, and suicide.
For my first song, I chose Burnin’ for You by Blue Oyster Cult. I chose this song to represent Dante’s Inferno. I chose this song because the lyrics reminded me of Dante’s Inferno. Certain lines from the song read, “Burn out the day; Burn out the night; I can’t see no reason to put up a fight; I’m living for giving the devil his due. And I’m burning, I’m burning, I’m burning for you,” (Roeser and Meltzer, lines 9-14).
Believer Believer, the hit song from the band Imagine Dragons, is about the pain that can manifest in everyday life, and how we can not only push through it, but how we can use it to improve ourselves. It was released in early 2017 after the band’s year long hiatus in which lead singer Dan Reynolds took time to deal with his depression. He is uncoincidentally, the author of the song. Believer blends the band’s previous styles as well as a few new ones in order to appeal to fans, old and new. The song became a quick hit, making its way to #4 on the hot 100 after its release.
