My purpose in applying for a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership is to advance my academic career through the qualities and the values of Jesuit teachings and to expand my ability to become an effective leader. As part of my personal goal, I would like to be a bridge for different organizations and to build a strong community that consists of people working together for a cause that will affect community in a positive way such as volunteering, social well being, political, and spreading compassion for others. Immigrants must overcome many barriers to succeed in America. First, migrants frequently must learn a new language. Inability to communicate is a critical barrier for accessing the health care system (Urrutia-Rojas, Marshall, Trevino, Lurie, & Minguia-Bayona, 2006). Second, the processes of work and schooling for themselves and their families can be daunting. Lastly, immigrants use the established social network of longer duration residents for reference and knowledge (Nandi, Galea, Lopez, Nandi, Strongarone, & Ompad, 2008). For purposes of this report, there are three different types of immigrant: legal, undocumented, and refugees or persons seeking asylum. All three types of residents want to succeed and achieve their personal dream.
I am involved in several clubs, such as Spanish club and HOSA, although I do not hold office in any of them, I try to serve as a leader and to use my intelligence to help the school. As a leader I am capable of using my potential to aid in inspiring others. I hope to prove myself to be a good example and guide for those who need help. Social interactions between immigrant newcomers and the community hinge upon the ethnic racial and socioeconomic characteristics of elderly immigrants and the society’s ethnic-racial and class structure. Without a comprehensive policy, elderly immigrant integration shall be a far-reaching goal in the Canada. One of the most fundamental conclusions we can draw from is that elderly immigrants sustain best in socially and politically conducive environments that allow them to practice their values and beliefs or change their social and cultural traditions at their pace, while learning and adapting to important community practices more quickly. Doing so, in turn, allows elderly immigrants to build up their confidence and sense of belonging gradually but profoundly. Cultural differences and practical problems such as language barriers and illiteracy make it rather difficult for these groups to reach health promotion and other social services. A transition is needed towards culturally sensitive services to overcome the obstacles to making convenient for elderly immigrants to assimilate in the society. I propose Culture Sensitive Senior Immigrant Integration Policy (CSSIIP) an integrated enabling services policy in which ethnic culturally competent community workers and the other community elders act as liaisons between immigrant elderly and local social welfare and health promotion services. Similarly, an official Canadian policy of multiculturalism buttresses the cohesion and the sense of community while both the concepts are of concern to most of the immigrant people. The Refugee Women's Alliance fosters a welcoming atmosphere for the students and parents who have only been in the United States for a short period of time. The students that I worked with are comfortable around the staff and the volunteers. I noticed that despite the language barriers, the students were not afraid to joke around with the staff. The students also have a platform to expressing their concerns, fears, and opinions. Positive relationships between the employees, the volunteers and the students prevent students from feeling alienated or ignored. The inclusive environment lets the students know that they are valued and that they do belong to the community. Integration process is a two-way street, where both the refugees/immigrants and the residents of the host country need to have mutual understanding and share a similar level of openness. As a daughter of immigrants and being an immigrant myself, I knew I had to work hard to become somebody in life to prove that my parents’ struggles were worth every second. My journey began at the age of eight years old, I had to pick up everything and leave my life behind in El Salvador to begin a new one in California. The transition was not easy though what made it possible was learning English and being able to adapt. The idea to continue my education after high school involved my role models who planted in me the importance of education and encouraged me to go through the enrollment process; although there were financial challenges, I have found my way into college.

I am an immigrant well, kind of; I wasn 't born here, but then again I wasn 't raised anywhere else. My parents brought me over when I was a child so they would be the immigrants since they made the decision to come here; I was kind of brought along. The year was 1994, I was 3(three) years old and my family and I had just been offered the opportunity to come to the U.S. my parents took it leaving everything behind. We were one of the lucky ones; our process was clean and simple. My dad worked for a religious organization, the Seventh Day Adventist Union in the Dominican Republic, as a canvasser; he sold books related to health and ministry. My proposal is that we have centers dedicated to help immigrants. These centers can be a one stop shop of information and resources. Minimizing the amount of travel needed to get information. At these centers immigrants can find coaching in financial, career, and educational areas. We will offer language classes, job fairs, job search training, and job development. For those with pressing issues like family separation, poverty, homelessness, etc. we offer individual assistance. We will provide follow up services so that each member that passes through these centers are not just forgotten and left to fend for themselves. I am a young Latina professional attempting to set forth a good precedent for my sisters, and be the best human I can be. I am an immigrant from Jalisco, Mexico. First to graduate high school and soon will be the first to graduate with two bachelor degrees from University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Latin American Studies and Political Science. I am a fashion lover who loves reading and knowing everything about social sciences and random trivia. Bad at every sport, but does not kill my motivation to try everything, learn about it, and try it at least once. I have been in and out between Jalisco and Nevada my whole life, but made a permanent move 6 years ago for school.
After working non-stop for seven years, I value academics a lot more today than I did as a student. The biggest motivation for my application is a genuine interest to learn the studies offered by TU Bergakademie Freiberg. I like taking initiatives and foresee myself as a pro-active student, prepared to ask questions and also put in the hard work necessary, not just to excel in academic, but to make the most of what is offered by the program.

The relationship between young people and nonprofits can be the start of a significant change in our community, and should be a reciprocal and powerful educational experience. An open-minded and encouraging flow of communication between organizations and community members can be the launchpad for the social and environmental change organizations talk about and try for every day. Together, we can make change – not just a semblance of idealism, but reality, as well.
