My research paper will investigate the Greek God Apollo. The reason I chose Apollo was I have never had a chance to look into other Gods or Goddess’ other than Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. The next seven paragraphs are paraphrased depictions, stories and relational information directly related to the god Apollo The information was compiled by author: Atsma, Aaron J., on the website: Theoi.com. Each paragraph is a separate encyclopedia reference and is noted in the following footnotes reference. “Apollo is considered the god of music, prophecy, oracles, healing, plague and disease, song, poetry, archery, and the protection of the young. He is always depicted as a handsome young male with long flowing hair, with his bow and his lyre in hand. His Mother and Father are Zeus and Leto. (Leto is a female titan.) Apollo has a twin sister named Artemis. She is the goddess of hunting, wilderness, and wild animals. Apollo was not only a very skilled musician he was also very skilled with his Silver bow.” (1) “The birth of Apollo and Artemis’ was on the floating island of Delos. The myth is told when Leto was pregnant with the two twins Hera, (The Goddess of all gods, Zeus’ wife), was jealous of Leto so wherever Leto went Hera was close to follow to ensure the babies would not be born, until Leto had found the floating island of Delos which served as a refuge and the birth place for Apollo and Artemis.” (3) “Leto was not only the mother of the Gods Apollo and Artemis she was also the Goddess of Motherhood and a Protector of the young. After Apollo and Artemis’ birth Leto was travelling to the city of Delphoi, during her journey a titan named Tityos attempted to abduct her but was surprisi... ... middle of paper ... ..., Aaron J. “Apollon Encyclopedia.” Theoi.com. Athena’s interesting life started by a very strange birth. When Athena’s mother Metis was impregnated, Athena’s father, Zeus, swallowed her. (2) Soon Zeus had great head pains, so he got Hephaestus to cut open his head with an axe. (5) When he sliced open Zeus’s head, Athena emerged fully grown and with a set of armor on. (2) Even though Zeus had many other children, Athena became his favorite. (8) She had many half brothers and sisters to compete against for this title including Hermes, Hephaestus, Apollo, Ares, Hebe, Artemis, Aphrodite, Persephone, and Tityus. (3)
Ares’ birth was a very odd birth compared to many other Greek gods. Hera was jealous of Zeus having the quality of conceiving a child immaculately. So she got a magical herb to make herself pregnant with the help of Zeus with a process called parthenogenesis. (Turnbull 2) The child she bore happened to be Ares.

-The Greek god, Apollo and his twin sister Artemis were born by Leto, a Titan goddess who was impregnated by Zeus during one of his numerous affairs. When Hera discovered that her husband had impregnated yet another goddess. Angered, Hera would not allow Leto to bear her children. Finally, Leto found an island that was willing to allow her to give birth, and this island was named Delos.
Artemis was born of Leto and Zeus, on the island of Delos, later helping with the delivery of her twin brother, Apollo. Some sources state that her actual birthplace is not Delos, but an island called Ortygia. Although the two islands could be one and the same, it is not clear. In helping with the birth of her brother Artemis fulfilled her role as a goddess of childbirth (which she shares with Eileithyia and Hera). She is the goddess of chastity, the hunt and the moon, too. But I'll get more into those later.
Nothing can be more life changing than when a god chooses to interact with a mortal man. Much of Greek mythology describes the natures of these interactions. The Olympian Gods meddle with the mortals they rule over constantly, but what is the result for these interactions, and how do they impact the mortals? The question that this paper tries to address is what is the nature of these divine interaction, and how does each side truly perceive each other? The Gods and mortals interact in a variety of ways, but the true natures of these interactions truly describe how the ancient Greeks perceived their gods.
The story of Athena’s birth is a very interesting one, as her birth like most from older pathos is not a normal birth story like todays births. Most of Athena’s birth stories state that she had no mother and only a father, Zeus. The story starts with two people, a God and a titan; we know them as Zeus and Metis.
Athena was born beside the river Triton where she was nurtured by 3 nymphs. One of the nymphs

Throughout Greek mythology it is known that some gods have priority over others. The twelve Olympians are among those. The relationship between humans and Greek gods is revealed through several myths. These gods are not only born with special skills and gifts but are also worshiped in several places such as Athens, where Athena is greatly worshiped . Not only do human beings look up to these gods but they respect and aspire to be like them. Even if the gods abuse their authority at times, they are able to show compassion and reasoning towards human beings by providing aid. They keep a reputable title for being a god but also protect their image. The myths that will be discussed in this essay are Danäe and the
Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, in Greek mythology he is considered one of the most famous and important gods. He is the god of many different things such as music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, plague medicine, sun, light and knowledge. He was born on the Greek island of Delos with his twin sister the goddess of hunt Artemis. Apollo had a daily job which was to ride chariot in order to move the sun in the sky. Which is why although he is the god of many things is most well known for being the god of the sun.
Born from the remains of the castration of Uranus, Aphrodite arose from the foam in the sea and became known as the goddess of love to those who worshipped her, described by Hesoid. We see another version of her this goddess’s birth as well, from the gods Zeus and Dione, leaving a double tradition of Aphrodite’s birth and a basic duality in her character. Artemis, the Greek goddess of wild things, was born to Zeus and Leto, and remained a virgin goddess who roamed the forests with her female companions. These two goddesses disagreeing viewpoints on sexual relationships naturally set them up to have a conflicting relationship, yet their well-known trait of revenge in their myths bring a similarity to both the goddess of love and of hunting. Their personalities are compared through their primary functions in Greek mythology and physical characteristics, their behavior in myths that they are involved in, their portrayal in Greek art and literature, and if and how they are worshipped in Greek religion.
While Artemis stood back and did not intervene with Hera’s wishes, Apollo came forth to aid his mother. He shot down and slayed the Python. Since Python was a child of the Earth goddess Gaia, he willingly took full responsibility for his actions
There were also Gods who favored the Trojan side of the conflict. Both Apollo and Artemis, twin brother and sister, gave aid to the city of Troy. Although Artemis takes a rather minor role, Apollo, perhaps angered by Agamemmnon's refusal to ransom Khryseis, the daughter of one of his priests, and was constantly changing the course of the war in favor of the Trojans. Responsible for sending plague to the Greeks, Apollo was the first god to make an appearance in the Iliad. Also, mainly because Apollo and Artemis were on the Trojan side, their mother, Leto, also helped the Trojans.
