Many things must be considered before a person can responsibly and safely secure a new work of art or an artifact for a museum. Cost, variety and safety are the first three factor that comes to mind when are dealing with artifacts that displayed in a museum. Is important to be cautious when we are dealing with art works, not to damage or misplace them so our posterity have a chance to look at what we looked at. Running a museum is very expensive, the Museum Modern Art in New York City is running on constant deficit, approaching to 1 million dollars a year and still worsening (Source A). As an attempt to solve this issue, some museums have started museum store and gift shops to raise money, however many believe the sales will rule the museum and will devalue the chances for people to learn in a museum (Source D). Money must be considered because art works, especially older art works, are very costly. Imagine that one piece of history that is taken from a town. This piece of history tells l people how this town was built and all the important people that were apart of the community. “Returning Antiquities to Their Countries of Origin” by Joyce Mortimer can many people about how objects are getting taken from Museums. They should be returned immediately. There are so many artifacts out there that could be so important to people, and if someone can just imagine what it would feel to have one of the most important object taken from a museum and to be never returned again. Many people enjoy seeing these objects so why are they being taken?
For years on end, countries have been fighting with big museums from other countries for ancient artifacts that belong to the original countries. The argument of whether or not the museums should be able to keep them still remains. It is the right of the country to have their own artifacts. It is imperative for countries to be able showcase their historical artifacts, therefor museums should return them to their rightful owners.
Duncan’s (1991) analysis of western museums is defined through the theme of “durable objects” as a criterion to judge the heritage of American and European art as a ritual of the modern state. The Tampa Museum of Art was not always the same museum that we see today. It went through multiple stages throughout the years. The works vary, creating a large spectrum from the old to the new. The social angles change with the exhibits in the museum, combining to create the diversity we see today. Visiting this museum in person helped me to appreciate it even more than I would have thought possible. Observing and analyzing the other visitors helped me to understand the museum’s impact on the community more than I would have been able to just by reading about it. This museum is much different from others than I have visited.

Without tasting, smelling, touching, or hearing, it may be hard to find oneself in an alternate universe through a piece of art work, which was the artist’s intended purpose. The eyes serve a much higher purpose than to view an object, the absorptions of electromagnetic waves allows for one to endeavor on a journey and enter a world of no limitation. During the 15th century, specifically the Early Renaissance, Flemish altarpieces swept Europe with their strong attention to details. Works of altarpieces were able to encompass significant details that the audience may typically only pay a cursory glance. The size of altarpieces was its most obvious feat but also its most important. Artists, such as Jan van Eyck, Melchior Broederlam, and Robert Campin, contributed to the vast growth of the Early Renaissance by enhancing visual effects with the use of pious symbols. Jan van Eyck embodied the “rebirth” later labeled as the Renaissance by employing his method of oils at such a level that he was once credited for being the inventor of oil painting. Although van Eyck, Broederlam, and Campin each contributed to the rise of the Early Renaissance, van Eyck’s altarpiece Adoration of the Mystic Lamb epitomized the artworks produced during this time period by vividly incorporating symbols to reconstruct the teachings of Christianity.

Although I did learn about William Morris and his designs in my history classes I learnt about the concept behind his design decisions and in depth analysis of Morris’s evolution as a designer only when I started working on this exhibit. It is imperative that you do research before arriving on any decision in regard to putting up any exhibit. Furthermore after analyzing the different options, it is imperative that you have facts to back up your decisions of the artifacts chosen. Every artifact that you pick for your case should have direct relation to your concept and it should be consistent among all artifacts. Overall a lot of thought should be put into the exhibit and the concept must reflect the ideas distinctly.
Museums are places where history can be revisited. There are many museums in the world dedicated to one particular subject, and have exhibits only on that one subject.
Items displayed in museums hold historical significance and are representative of society’s culture. Preserving valuable collections for education and enjoyment is a primary role of museums. While fulfilling this role, the architecture of the museum is also an important factor. Historical buildings are converted into museums and architects must consider the use of the space and the museum’s purpose during their initial design. Other museums are built with a clear purpose in mind. As museums are designed, many characteristics are determined. Display and storage spaces as well as visitor services impacts museum’s functionality. Based on the function of a museum, architectural requirements are different.
Museums in general are vastly different in what they offer to patrons. Some focus on a specific academic discipline such as science, history, astronomy, and art. In traditional museums all the displays are behind glass and you are not allowed to touch anything. The items on display are often animals or artefacts are from very far away or have been donated by a wealthy collector. The displays are not changed very often. In more modern museums the displays are not only insect and animal from far away.
A very important factor in the market is the price mechanism: affects both demand (people will want to take advantage of the merit goods – the museums), and supply (depending on the entrance fee or free admission, some museums could last longer or not at all on the market.) The public is easily attracted by incentives such as discounts for students and children and free admission for elders and the disabled. Incentives generate more visitor numbers. However, current demand for tickets is low compared to the optimum quantity, although the museums’ heritage and their tradition are considered to be of great value. The shortage in demand is mainly due to lower-class citizens’ incomes.
When people visit museums, they are presumably touring the attraction for the sense of enjoyment and entertainment. These buildings of historical valuables have become a destination for those who wish to fulfill their curiosity of knowing what has been rescued and refurbished from the past, and individuals who simply want to pass time. There are a number of items and antiquities which are admired on a daily basis, but is the work and selection process taken into consideration as well? The art may be appreciated but the question of why the pieces were chosen never arises. Artifacts selected to be showcased within museums are representations of the evolution of mankind, and the ever-changing mindset and behaviors acquired from generation to generation.
Trustees have an obligation to make sure that their museums do not have artifacts that will have to be deaccessioned for restitution purposes, which would cause the museum to have a financial loss. It is more their responsibility than anyone else's in the museum. Art museums have many illegal collections because of archaeology in places that have recently become independent nations. Some museums voluntarily gave the stolen and illegal collections back, while others took the matters to court. This can be related to ethical issues within the museum.
When first arriving at the museum it was an old styled, rustic, building that was not very modern, which I think fits into the theme of the museum. The outside of the building had history, similar to how the inside of museum is filled with a history. There was also an impressive statue of former president Theodore Roosevelt. I thought it was an interesting display, but Theodore Roosevelt was an advocate for the preservation of national parks and the conservation of animals, moreover, I thought it was a great tribute to him. I think the outside of the museum shows how rich the history of the world is and there is so much to learn. The past has been polished for the people of the present to understand and admire. Overall, I felt every exhibit was easy to understand and not intimidating; subsequently, it was easy for children and adults to look at.
