Nothing lasts forever. Over our lifetime, we must learn to let go of the items we love and accept that everything good must eventually perish. In "Annabel Lee", Edgar Allen Poe uses metaphors and imagery to illustrate that realizing all good things must come to an end is a key trait that we all must learn to master in order to succeed in life.
Poe uses metaphors to characterize how strong his love was between him and his beloved, but also to communicate that their love couldn't overcome death.
