Animal Farm is a short book by George Orwell. A story about a farm overrun by animals to gain their freedom and produce for themselves. They create commandments to follow for their belief in Animalism. The book is an allegorical reference to the Russian Revolution. Snowball is a pig on Animal Farm. He was exiled by the work of the notorious pig named Napoleon and his trained dogs. The other animals were convinced that Snowball was a bad pig, and had a very evil plan to cohort with Mr. Jones. But is Snowball really this evil? Has Napoleon warped the animal’s thoughts? Since the beginning Snowball has been an idealist, wanting good for all of the animals, and greatly believes in animalism. He would make the farm a much better place than Napoleon could’ve. We are going to compare Snowball to Napoleon for each of Snowball’s important qualities.
Snowball is extremely idealistic. He wants the farm to reach a perfect society. The humans are known to produce nothing important, and therefore Snowball created his ideal life. He emotionally drove the animals to perform well and get thing done. When they took over the farm they continued to work hard and get their freedom. Napoleon is a leader that runs the farm off fear and fake security. He isn’t admired by the animals (excluding Boxer). He destroys all of their forms of fun and hope, and leaves them to do endless labor for goals that seem pointless. Whereas Snowball is a generally good pig, with loyalty to all animals and animalism itself. He has plans to make the farm extremely free and successful. He gives them reasons to do work. I believe that the qualities that Snowball has show the signs of a much better leader. Animal Farm is a book about corruption and government. It shows the ways that people act with too much power.
