1. What is propaganda and how is it connected to characterisation?
Propaganda is the act of spreading certain ideas or opinions with the intention of persuading someone to recognise their point of view. Propaganda is usually done with the purpose of inflicting damage to a particular party or person in order to promote a specific ideal. Propaganda is a form of persuasion and is commonly done through media. One way propaganda is often portrayed through characters. A character can be depicted in a certain way purposely to entice certain feelings from the audience. While the pigs are selfish, self-centred and tyrannical the other animals as seen as hard working, responsible and selfless and this creates a sense of sympathy for their situation. Other ways a film can create sympathy is through music, sound and animation. The facial features of the animals plays a big part in how we perceive them. Napoleons facial features for instance are sharp and angular and give off an angry feel. The reason the director created sympathy for his characters is it allows the audience to separate clearly the antagonist and protagonist. When we side with the other animals we can see the story from the author’s perspective. It also connects back to the Russian revolution on which the story was based loosely off of. The animals in animal farm are based off of major characters in the Russian revolution and by creating sympathy for the animals of animal farm the author is also connecting it back to the current social event of his …show more content…

He asked for the opinions of the other animals and seeked only to better them mentally, physically and intellectually. While snowball is altruistic in nature Napoleon is tyrannical and selfish. He used violence, and lies to get his own way. He voices his propaganda through Squealer his right hand man and bends the truth to fit his own selfish desires. He waited for the death of snowball because he wanted absolute control over the animals on animal farm and he couldn’t have that with Snowball around to empower the other animals. He needed to tarnish snowballs reputation in order to gain control over animal
